Shallot & red wine demi-glace, pommes frites, béarnaise
Spigarello, summer squash pickled haricot vert, zesty vinaigrette
Food was fine (a bit underseasoned), but crazy-small portions and outrageously expensive. We sat outside, and there were two very good heaters, but the table and chairs seemed pretty chintzy for such a pricey place. The service was efficient but cold. All in all, disappointing.
St Jack is one of our favorite restaurants and he food and service is always fabulous
Food went downhill. Changing to a whole wheat vs baguettes was terrible and did not make the food taste as good. Food was also overpriced and really not as good as before. Really sad to see it go downhill and will most likely not come back.
Great food and attentive service. Only downside was we ordered some bread that we never received
Wonderful tastes and flavors with great service.
We made a meal of appetizers and salads.
Amazing food, but warning about the jumbo shrimp. They're not jumbo at all.
They're medium at best.
Overall, the experience was good---food was good, wine was good. Our waiter was cold towards us and gave the vibe that he was upset and definitely unhappy to be working. Definitely understand given the times, just don't like to be treated like I directly influenced his working conditions by dining out at the restaurant. I don't know what my friend and I could have done differently---we were on time to our reservation, ordered efficiently, were polite the whole time, honored our time limit, and tipped well even though service was cold and supar. Probably will not be dining here again as the feeling that you are inconveniencing someone while eating out is not pleasant and dampens the special occasion.
Food was overpriced, portions were small, didn't have the first two wines we ordered, sweetbreads were almost unedible.
Delicious food, outstanding service
Absolutely stunning and creative French dining in an approachable but upscale environment.
The food at St Jack was amazing. From small plates to dessert I was blown away by everything I tried. Pretty pricey but I think the food was worth it. The service was upscale but kinda curt and cold. I don’t need a friendly conversation, but do appreciate a nice explanation when it comes to the size or style of certain dishes. Would come back.
Food was good, seasoned and cooked well. Presentation was appealing with the exception of being given an entree on a heavily chipped plate. When bringing this up to the server, he stated that "I got lucky and got a plate that has seem some things". Really? As someone in the industry, I am amazed that a plate like this passed the cook and the expo to get out to a customer. The plate was so worn I thought it might of been an intentional statement from the chef. What is confusing about St. Jack is I am not sure what it is trying to be, casual bistro? Upscale restaurant? Throughout the meal I was given mixed vibes with the food, price point, service and ambiance. If I were to return, I would sit at the bar and order small plates and a cocktail. The chicken mousse was on point!
Food and service are amazing. Nice for a special occasion...
It was my wife’s birthday and got seated close to the windows which was great. It seemed like we’d have an intimate meal and time.
Turns out a locksmith was there to fix the front door so the door was open letting in a stream of cold air. When we told the waitstaff they said, “He’ll be done soon,” and walked off. The guy came back three times to try and fix it during our meal. There were plenty of other tables at the time.
The butter lettuce salad came with dirt in the butter lettuce. And $36 for a bowl of mussels? That seemed steep.
It was so loud we could barely hear ourselves
Our waiter was phenomenal & the staff made our anniversary feel very special. When we sat down, they brought out two glasses of bubbly for us, which was such a pleasant surprise!
The food & drinks were divine. It was hard to decide what we wanted - simply because everything on the menu seemed like a fantastic choice. I think my favorite dish of the night though was the escargot.
The patio was perfect - even though it started to drizzle a little while we were outside, we were completely covered & shielded from the elements.
We can’t wait to go back!
Truly fantastic. Dining in the time of covid can be trying, but St. Jack was truly a great night. We requested the patio and it was very nice and had a heater that kept us warm. The service was super attentive, our waiter and a host of other folks including the host checked in with us and brought us food and drinks and kept the meal moving as whole.
The food was unpretentious French but with a local Portland twist that made it interesting but also very delicious. There was not one aspect of our meal that disappointed. Overall found this spot welcoming with a great charm and genuinely delicious food and drinks.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a cozy, friendly, delicious French-ish meal.
Amazing service, amazing food, such a great atmosphere
Excellent food & service. The outside seating was a bit chilly despite the heat lamps. Next time we will try and book an inside table (we’re on vacation from out of state and didn’t realize how cold it gets!)
Great place to dine & converse. Warm ambience with friendly waiters. I was a little disappointed that there was no espresso to finish dinner with.
Thoroughly enjoyed. Ordered olives shrimp and gougeres to start. Waiter recommended the perfect wine to pair. The food was above expectations. Olives were served hot, shrimp was expertly seasoned with a tasty aoili, the gougeres were hot, crispy melty-yum. We had the quail and the albacore for entrees. Both were good but we had filled up on the apps so can’t really judge! We felt it was reasonably priced for the level of food, wine, and service.
I was really looking forward to having the burger and the took it off the menu. The only reason I go to St Jack is for the burger. We had a drink and pomme frites(that took forever) and left to have a burger elsewhere.
Great service and wine recommendations. Food was excellent.
Simply lovely French ambiance with superb food and spot on service!
Inventive and magical. Those are two words I don’t use often — especially in restaurant settings. Ambiance was lovely and we received top notch service on 9/24 during our anniversary dinner. Ordered the Particular Hotel cocktail which included vodka, carrot, citrus and macadamia nut soft top. Like what. The oysters from Puget Sound were so fresh and quite possibly featured the best mignonette I’ve had in a while. The seasonal ingredients throughout each dish made huge statements, ie. the pavlova which included pluot — a plum apricot hybrid. Insane. I’m already looking for an excuse to come back to St. Jack.
It was wonderful to get together with out-of-town friends and enjoy the excellent food and service at St. Jack’s. Matthew was extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and did not rush us at all - since it had been several years since we’d seen these friends. I would love to return to St. Jack’s for another delicious dinner!
First time there and loved it. Will return soon!!!
Food was very good and creative although bone marrow had minimal amount of marrow and probably not a good choice.
Wine list is very well curated and server was extremely helpful in selection.
Pavlova desert good. Madelaine not very interesting.
Overall a great meal.
No moderate priced options for entree.
Truly one of the best dining experiences of my life.
Food was absolutely fantastic, service was excellent. Prices are expensive but to be expected relative to quality. Very enjoyable experience.
An incredible birthday dinner with amazing staff & friendly service. The best food ever. Thank you St. Jack!
Amazing food. Mussels are the best. deserts are pretty innovative too.
French food in name only and the price doesn't fit the quality. The steak frites featured a skimpy and cheap cut off beef and a huge mound on frozen bagged fries to hide the beef portion.
My Vol-au-vent was more like a floral arrangement run amok than a proper Vol-au-vent. The floral arrangement thus hiding the lack of the main ingredient in the dish.
The tartare was chopped beef with too many fillers to avoid using the main ingredient: beef. Looked more like cat food.
Wonderful service and the food was amazing ✨
We had outdoor seating and it was a bit noisy. The food was really delicious and unusual. We really enjoyed trying several of the small plates. Hubby had the muscles and said they were excellent. The steak tartar and the Gruyere Espelett were really delicious.
Wonderful place to celebrate– birthdays, anniversaries, you name it. We will be back!
The menu was very limited. For a French restaurant that charged premium prices service was way too casual and an afterthought. $70 for sole for two with no offer to help filleting the fish.
Outdoor seating was noisy due to location on NW 23rd. Hard to have a conversation.
Thank you to the amazing staff that were so kind and considerate
I understand the rights of all people to express their grievances on our city sidewalks. The lone protester who has made it his mission to ruin the experience for St. Jack’s diners no withstanding, it was a beautiful evening.
