Food and service is some of the best I’ve had in Portland. I can’t recommend the place enough!
extremely polite staff service incredible food and yummy drinks! Little pricier but a fun outing and the outside ambience was fun and different and I stayed warm. Would definitely recommend
French focused upscale bistro fare. We had a wonderful time at their outdoor dining set up. One of the best burgers in town.
My wife and I recently attended St. Jack for our anniversary dinner, our first night out in...??? Pre-covid times! We were greeted immediately after our arrival, seated promptly and enjoyed a lovely evening. The staff was very attentive, kind, courteous, professional and the food was incredible! Would definitely recommend!
They sat us an hour past our reservation. Waitress was very rude and seemed annoyed to be taking our order. She didn’t come back to check on us one time even though I wanted to order another drink and ask for a couple things to go with my food. She walked by many times but never looked at our table. I couldn’t even wave to get her attention. I would not go back based on the service.
I always love the experience at St.Jack. It’s the best!
Lovely ambiance and experience. They worked to make New Year's Eve safe and special for many couples. We were seated past our reservation time and then rushed to leave, however, which was slightly disappointing, but we had a pleasant time nonetheless.
Outside seating, I counted only nine tables. Heaters and partial plastic enclosure makes dining comfortable without a coat. The food is always stellar as is the service. One of our favorites.
Favorite restaurant in Portland by far. Always impeccable.
They have wonderful heaters for outdoor dining in Covid times. Wonderful evening!
Now that they're back open after the latest shutdown, they added a prepaid dinner for 2 complete with dessert. It was AMAZING!!! Large portions, so delicious and detailed instructions for plating and heating at home. Can't wait to see what next weeks menu is!
Food was delicious, service was excellent. Wine list was overpriced. We did see a couple tables bring their own bottles. Not sure what the corkage fee would be but seems like a good solution. All in all a winner!
Food was ok. The choices were VERY limited (probably due to Covid). I saw pictures and an extensive menu online and was looking forward to try some of them. Turned out, just about everything I wanted to try was not on the menu at the restaurant. I end up getting the lamb shank which was decent. The burgers the kids had was good also. But the vegetarian dish wasn't something to write home about. Overall, we were a little disappointed. Aside from the great service, there was nothing on the menu at the restaurant that we were looking forward to try.
Excellent food...either from the soup to the desert was tasty. Serve was wonderful. And the restaurant ensured social distanced tables, we felt safe.
have been many times and always liked it but not loved it. This latest experience puts me in the love category - everything was spot on, from wine to service and especially the food. Perfect seasoning, harmonious yet adventurous.
Consistent, friendly, knowledgeable and safe. Always a good experience. Do yourself a favor and order the Steak Frites.
Interesting menu and solid but minimal wine list. The food was all well done but not mind-blowing. Service was so-so. COVID makes everything weird so can’t comment on ambiance accurately. Prices were not bad.
Doing the best they can keeping it intimate with Covid...still great experience.
I wish the service was as exceptional as the foie gras. The 3.5 lb ribye was $98 and came 45 mins later very rare not med rare as if they seared it and put in the oven for 10 mins. I expected the pomme frites to be better than just frozen fries from a bag. they have nicer fries at little big burger.
Great service, amazing food, beautiful space. A little pricey and the music a bit loud though we loved it!
Really a lovely restaurant... table ready on time, incredible service & help with menu suggestions. The pot de wine are amazing.
Doing a great job with COVID procedures. Very clean. Spread out tables inside and out. Large windows open for air flow. Amazing food!
We understand the pandemic has taken a toll on restaurants and we were pleased to support st jack, one of our favorite pre pandemic dining spots. Unfortunately they have thrown out all standards and turned themselves into an undesirable experience with sour and rude front of house staff. The hostess looked like she just rolled out of bed. Literally no effort made in her appearance. We had made a 5pm reservation and were there 7-10 minutes before 5 as that is also their opening time. There were a few other guests waiting. We all got seated in their temporary outdoor seating. All good. Other tables all got their cocktails ahead of us even though we were first to order. We ordered the famous and delicious pate and two burgers. We were eager for the pate. 47 minutes after placing our order we received our two burgers from the same hostess but no pate. She told us it would be out shortly. We had her cancel as we were anticipating our starter before entree. The attitude from this person who just repeated she would pass on the feedback was not on par with the restaurant this once was. Shame. We’ve seen many restaurants adapt their services and experience and we get it. But we did expect a dining experience with great service when paying their $40+ for entrees and $14+ for cocktails you can’t serve me looking like you fell asleep on the couch before your shift and treating me like you really cannot be bothered. So many restaurants need the type of outdoor seating at jack has and value every customer. Really disappointed to the degree we won’t go back.
Everything was perfect!
The burgers were amazing! Cocktails pretty good. Wonderful service. Little chilly in the restaurant but they are great about opening doors and keeping tables far apart with everyone masked.
Well spaced out. They can open windows during covid times. Felt very safe.
Great feel and creative menu. Friendly staff. Good bar tender.
Everything was impeccable! Best burger I’ve had in recent memory. The baguette and butter were insane - we were freaking out over it :) And the cocktails were skillfully crafted and on point. Thank you for this lovely experience.
Glad to dine again at St Jack!
Incredible food, but the service is what made it stand out to my guest and me. Shelby, our waiter, was OUTSTANDING! What a nice guy, and what an excellent server. The whole experience was first class: food, wine, and service. I’ll definitely make this one of my mainstays each time I’m back in Portland.
Excellent food and service. Poached prawns were especially good!
We love St Jack. Our first ever visit not sitting at the chef’s counter and seeing what all is going on. And Covid. Waitress seem distracted having to manage the bar delaying our salad course. They left windows open, which was nice from a Covid standpoint, but frankly cold. Was not our best visit, but the food, especially the salads, are worth going back again and again.
While I miss the full menu, St. Jack did a great job of outdoor dining. I was craving lamb, and their lamb chop hit the spot!
I rarely write a review but we were very disappointed with our meal and experience . Poor service and overall value. Servers unprofessional- very unwelcoming. We were seated at a table on the corner when other more desirable tables were available.
We tried to order a drink and starter and were abruptly told we could only order drinks, not our starter. Oysters delivered without a word - we had to ask where they were from which isn’t typical when oysters are served. My husband had lamb which was lukewarm and lacked flavor. My halibut entree was delicious but not worth the price. Overall underwhelming.
Love this place. Great outdoor seating situation. 😊😊😊
We love St Jack. Best burger in town!
Steak was over cooked. I sent it back, chef and manager blamed me claiming that it was an opinion. They really did not apologize or even offer up a cup of coffee. Wife ate her whole entre before my re-fired and then under cooked steak arrived. Again, restaurant blamed me. Not a pleasant anniversary dinner. i have been to St Jack's on many occasions and was shocked at the lack of customer care. Wait service was excellent, management was terrible.
1st real restaurant dinner out since March to celebrate our daughter's 16th birthday and it was absolutely fabulous! St Jack's is always a favorite but I was a little nervous thinking it would all feel a bit awkward. The staff was fantastic and put us at ease from the moment we arrived - everyone in masks and so warm and welcoming. Tables outfitted with hand sanitizer and digital menus (scan the QR code on your phone) set outside and spaced well apart. The best part was the fabulous food we have missed so much. They are serving a full menu and we ordered all our favorites - oysters, chilled shrimp, butter lettuce salad, steak frites, their amazing bread & butter plus a special halibut entree that was to die for. They are even making the mini madeleines to order and served them right out of the oven with a birthday candle for our daughter - she was over the moon... and so were we. It was the best night we have had in such a long time. Thank you so much!
Disappointing. We've long been fans. Untrained servers. No mussels (long a feature). Overpriced from pre-pandemic levels, particularly the wines. I sympathize with the stress caused by COVID and we'll try again after the restaurant can hopefully return to normal.
