lovely location friendly staff lovely food beautiful view of the bay and harbour relaxing spot
The venue is stunning and view from the dining room window is out of this world. The food was amazing we ordered the champagne afternoon tea but was advised this didn't come with tea as well - bit unusual !! We practically had the dining room to ourselves. The scones were served warm and lovely cake selection as well as finger sandwiches - left very full !!
Location and view a real plus for this restaurant, food was excellent.
Only down side was the service, although all the members of staff were very friendly & welcoming they between them forgot to ask if we wanted any desserts or coffees after our meal, not good enough really.
Nice view but overall a disappointment and definitely not worth the price.
Waiters got our orders wrong, steak was terribly overcooked, fish on salad tasted so odd that we mistook it for cheese, and truth is nothing else our big party had was above average. Overall a very disappointing experience after the great food we have had at random cafes and restaurants in Cornwall, and definitely lacking for a restaurant charging this range of prices (i.e. not your typical cafe or road side takeaway) .
Didn't help that the experience started with slow and dismissive service (despite us being the only guests), though this did improve through the meal. That being said, we would give special note to the manager who did try to pay us more attention after the first few mistakes came to his attention, and later tried to make it up to us.
Food was very disappointing, lamb shank did not look very appetising and was not very tasty, not enough vegetables. French fries were dry and stoggy. I would not recommend the restuarant. The serving staff were very good.
We enjoyed our afternoon tea , very much, it was my birthday treat , the staff were very friendly and pleasant .
Expensive, very limited choice of food (Sunday Lunch)No ambience, poor service generally.
Would not recommend
Not sure whether fault of Open Table or Harbour Hotel, but there were no details of our booking. Waiter came across as rather abrupt and patronising - don't think it was meant - possibly lost in translation, but customer service training may be beneficial. Other female staff were more friendly.
Food was ok. Wasn't the best burger I've ever had, but was nice. Wine was awful - but assume was very cheap as we went for a 2 Dine for £29 Deal.
Hotel is lovely inside, decor v. nice. Other staff friendly. Wasn't the worst dining experience, but not the absolute best either - it felt like we were slightly second-class customers because we were dining using the hotel's own deal - I've never been made to feel like that before anywhere.
That said, as I live locally I wouldn't rule out going back again, and when I've been for a Spa Day previously the service was much better.
Over all had a very nice meal staff where very polite and friendly and helpful and would highly recommend . P S. will be coming back again soon
regards Stephen Julie
only 2 staff on duty, wasn't booked in for the meal, waited 20 minutes at the bar for service, staff member ignored me and went off the restaurant again. we didn't stay for the meal because of the lack of service and wouldn't recommend it
Open table booking had been lost !! Food good quality, but staff need training in service provision.
Lounge and restaurant cold, no open fires alight. No coffee offered. No 'nibbles' with Champagne.
The food was very good as was the service. I was however annoyed that the hotel was not aware of the booking I had done online despite the fact I had received an email co formation. On my booking form I asked for another time but received no response. When we arrived the dining room was fairly empty so an alternative time was possible. I don't think it's good enough when the online system encourages you to use the open table system but doesn't connect with the hotel. This could possibly have left the hotel in the invidious position of not being able to cater for the number of people who in good faith believe their booking has been confirmed.
Staff could not be faulted. However food was not a good experience. Had brie wedges still frozen in the middle to start, crab thermidor for main, which was tasteless and dry, and I would take an educated guess at also frozen. Fries were undercooked and again frozen. The cheeseboard was good. For £25.00 for 3 courses, very uninspiring and poor value.
Breakfast in the morning was much better, all cooked properly and fresh.
We really enjoyed our meal, food choice great, ambience, background music all lovely
A fantastic evening meal with a lovely beach view! Great professional and friendly service
Had a couple of meals whilst on a short break in the hotel, the food was good, the service excellent and there is really nothing I could say except that we both enjoyed the experience.
Visited the hotel for a special occasion and of course booked a dinner in the restaurant. I have to say i was extremely impressed with the quality of everything! Yes, the restaurant was quiet, but, it was so relaxing and such a well presented space with great views. I would definitely recommend it to people as the food is just spectacular! Creative, delicious and affordable with great staff who couldn't do more for you.
Love this place and will certainly be back for a visit.
The best restaurant view, tables placed to take full advantage of the beautiful Porthminster beach. A few members of staff a little on the cold side , a warmer greeting goes a long way. We ate at this restaurant on four consequetive days, on several occasions on arrival told to find your own table. Food was well presented and menu varied each day. Warch the service charge though which is added automatically. For a hotel restaurant its just good.
We stayed at hotel and weren't impressed with problems with our room and spa. We then went for dinner and a number of options were unavailable. However, the food we did have was really delicious and good value for money. Wouldn't recommend hotel in general but food/ restaurant was lovely.
Our room had a fantastic view of the beach, was spacious & clean. The staff made us feel very welcomed. We used the spa swimming pool which was great fun. Stayed for an evening meal at their restaurant. The ambience & the food at their restaurant was good although, both myself & my partner felt the service was a little quick between courses which we feel didn't let us enjoy the bottle of wine we ordered.
we had a lovely stay the room was excellent as was the service. we just found the food dissapointing
Had a great meal with my wife and friends. There was a great choice and was very good value for money. The wine was excellent value with enough choice. The staff were excellent and quick to respond to any needs. The only drawback to the food was the gravy/jus which was extremely potent and needs to be served in a jug rather being poured over the food which at times overpowered the taste of the excellent food.
Average but service was slow, probably because there was a wedding at the venue
We stayed at the hotel and ate on a Wednesday evening. We both opted for the local menu. Everything was okay, but a little underwhelming: my hock ham terrine was tasty, but the crackers were hard and brittle (not the worst thing, I know), my wife's mussels were fine, but the sauce was overly salty and we both opted for a ragu for our mains which was not very flavoursome.
Dessert was good, but we didn't get the dessert wine we ordered for about 15 minutes after the dessert had been serve, and then it was not chilled. We asked for our custard to be reheated. The bar lady took it over to our waitress who refused to heat it. (The bar lady got it heated by someone else.)
The view was lovely and in truth there was nothing terrible about our dinner, just not amazing.
When we arrived the hotel had NO RECORD of our evening meal reservation!
The parking was extremely poor, the accommodation was not fit for purpose, the staff were extremely defensive and unprofessional. As a consequence we checked out after only two hours.
How do you explain that our meal that was booked in July was not arranged with the hotel!!!
Needless to say we will never use open table again, nor would we ever consider staying at the St Ives Harbour Hotel again.
They had no knowledge of our booking......flustered staff....very limited menu(which we weren't told about on booking)....no ambience at all.....was our wedding anniversary...and we ended up laughing at how appalling the whole thing was! Whole meal took just over half hour..just had main course( I ended up with fish and chips/husband with a sandwich!!! For our special anniversary lunch???)........
A restaurant desperately in need of a maître d'he to bring it to anything like an acceptable standard. My main course was inedible and my wife's of a very poor quality.
Starter fig tart was extremely small portion . Looked nice though. Had haddock but this was a little undercooked and insipid. Finished with cheese and biscuits which were good. Beautiful view of st ives bay.
Terrace Restaurant good ambience with wonderful view.Staff excellent. We dined on two nights so a little disappointed that the Menu was the same on both days.Having seen the Bill on checkout not sure if the prices listed included VAT as this was added on to the price.Thought the 10% discretionary Gratuity a good idea.
It was a fabulous restaurant with very friendly attentive staff the food was excellent in both presentation and taste beautiful ambience and just the right room temperature
Location and views from restaurant amazing. Overview of beach and sea. Ideal for lunch and early dinner, before it gets dark.
amazing views of the bay friendly staff good service and food well presented
Wonderful views over the beach and harbour. Friendly staff, excellent food.
It was a pleasure eating here for the two days and nights we stayed at the hotel. Every meal, breakfast, lunch and evening meals where so tasty and filling. The service was great and staff were friendly. Loved every dish!
Everything about my first visit to The St Ives harbour Hotel was wonderful - food, service and surroundings. But it was a shame that there weren't more people there to enjoy it as that would have added to the ambience - it was the only thing that was missing, and there was nothing the hotel could do about it. It was a very sunny Sunday lunchtime and I expect that most people were on the beach. Otherwise, everything was excellent
We were celebrating my Mum's 70th birthday. On arrival the table was decorated along with a bottle of champagne on ice. An extra dessert was presented to my mum with the candles I'd brought. Food and service was good.
I booked this venue after being there several times before and enjoying it but this time was a different story !
It was my birthday, so 11 of us hooked afternoon tea with champagne, I called the hotel several times to advise it was my birthday and would like tables outside
Upon arrival the moody, miserable bar man knew nothing about our booking, slightly embarrassing, he grouped some tables together with our help !
No recognition of it being a special occasion
The afternoon tea arrived, which I can only describe as OK ! Sandwiches dry, mousses had curdled, average cakes - we advised the waiter on the mousses but was told that the chef said it was the heat, well why serve something like that on a warm sunny day ?!
My guests were complaining so I went in to speak to a manager. He did come and speak to me (looked slightly scruffy) gave us some brownies and a discount, but this didn't make up for the average, service, food and day :-(
Service at breakfast time dreadful, sat there for 35 minutes ordered a pot of tea three times before it finally turned up. Asked for white toast got brown. Full English mushroom stone cold as was the tomatoe rest Luke warm, hash brown swimming in Greece etc. Etc.
Evening meal a lot better but not outstanding.
I think the scores I have given were very generous.
Absolutely gutted! From when I entered reception! Receptionist was more interested in the guests checking in than my booking for afternoon tea that was celebrating my daughters birthday.
We needed parking nearby as my mum aged 75, has difficulty walking, I was given a photocopy print out to the overflow car park.
After a 20 minuet walk along a path, unsignposted and being directed by a member of the public playing tennis we arrived at Stives Hotel only to enter the restaurant through a private wedding g party!!!! Embarrassing!!!!!!!!
The table was not set with enough plates and was covered in crumbs from previous dinners and just felt grubby!!!!!. Only 2 other tables were taken, the restaurant was empty! Really very unimpressed and disappointed after listening to all your advertising on Pirate FM. The food was very average, the warm scones were the only positive of our afternoon, shame there was not enough cream to go on them.
I don't usually complain but this was a real let down.
Won't rebook or recommend.
Overall an amazing place to stay and lovely staff particularly catering for food intolerances. Highly recommend!
