Outstanding food and service and affordable. The outside seating is wonderful and during this time of year works well. Israel, the Chef, is creative and using seasonal products.
Always great food and wonderful service! We live an hour away and travel here for the amazing gnocchi, fabulous empanadas and incredible strawberry shortcake!
Good food and service. We were there early and sat outside since it was a nice day. I had a great burger and side salad with fabulous mango dressing. My husband had fish and chips. He loved them. Also calamari was great. Too full dessert. Maybe next time. We ere early so not sure what noise level is when crowded. We will be back!!!
Visiting for a wedding this week and we had some time to try out some new restaurants we haven’t tried since we were here 10 years ago. St. Helena’s Bistro came highly recommended on Yelp and Open Table. I decided to book one of our dinner reservations there for an easier, not-so-fancy meal out. Upon arrival, one of the servers greeted us. We sat where we wanted to since there were only 2 other parties there and plenty of space due to the time of evening. We were immediately given menus, bread and butter and water. We made our drink selections and ordered our appetizers and main course. The food came out shortly and everything we ate was fantastic. We started with the chicken nachos followed by the beef ravioli w/ bolognese. Our complimentary dessert was churros with pistachio gelato...delicious. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
The waiter was very accommodating for our 5 person party. Every dish was delicious.
Great little place. Main Street location, great service, lots of options on the menu to accommodate a bigger group. A quality $25 ribeye with sides in wine country, that took good care of 4 couples on short notice...I’m in!
Good food and service as always.
Good place for dinner with friends.
Food was decent but service was incredibly slow and no explanation was given. We watched multiple other parties be seated and served food way after we sat down to the table. Bussing was non-existent. Watched several bus folks pass our table multiple times and fail to remove dirty dishes from appetizers, even after our entrees were served.
The food was fine, average really, as was the ambiance. Honestly, based on the ratings/reviews and knowing how great so many of the other restaurants in the area are, we were disappointed. Service was not good - the table of 6 seated next to us ordered after we did, but received their food first and significantly more attention from the waitstaff. When we were seated our table was only half set - missing plates, glasses, etc. We were ignored for a good 15 minutes before we could order drinks or food.
I would suggest that you spend your money somewhere else!
The Napa Valley is one of those places where restaurants seem to believe that it's a privilege to dine with them. It's Napa, it's wine country, menus tout local ingredients and, by God, that's worth charging more for. The St. Helena Bistro ignores the last point.
It offers a small but diversified menu of very tasty fare, fabulous service, the ability to carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice, and prices that are surprisingly/refreshingly modest. The feeling we got was that the staff assumes that everyone's a local and will be back again very soon. So the attitude is friendly, helpful, and attentive. Whether it's always that way (or we just got a server with great intuition), I have no idea. But we'll be sure to check the next time we're in the valley.
We ate there last year and this year when we spent 3 days in Napa. Love the food! Had chicken canelloni! The best! All the food was fabulous there..we brought a bottle of Duck Horn and they didn't charge us a corkage fee! Very nice!!! I recommend this restaurant to everyone!!! Will be doing it again next year!!!!! Thank you!
As a local, it's one of my favorite places. The service is friendly and efficient. There were seven ladies in our party and everyone loved their choices. The eggplant parmesan was my choice and didn't disappoint. Nice ambiance, good service, good food and good value.
This was my second time there and it was a great experience. The food was delicious and the service was great.
I had the chicken sandwich and it was so delicious! My husband had the gnocchi- he practically liked the bowl clean. Our friend had the hamburger, he hardly spoke while eating it - I get that!! Our other friend had the salmon sandwich which she knew ahead of time she was ordering - she saw it on the internet and couldn’t not get it. We all loved our meals!the mango vinigarette was so delicious on our side salads. Would recommend, but get a reservation - lunch time on Friday was packed!
The best deal in town, everything is yummy!!
We enjoyed a very nice weekday lunch. The avocado salad with home-made mozzarella-style cheese was especially good and the service was excellent. The calamari, clam fettuccini, and tiramisu were also quite good.
Our table was outside. The weather was really nice. Down from the shops. They have gelatto.
Hands down my favorite hidden jewel in St. Helena, particularly for locals. It's atmosphere is simple, but charming and the staff treats you like family. On top of that, it consistently turns out some of the best food around and at a price that doesn't take your breath away.
Love this spot!
Great little neighborhood bistro. The food was great and the service friendly and excellent.
Great food and service. Jessica, our waitress was super! We will return. Thx!
Comprehensive menu, amazing food and service at a great value .
We celebrated New Years Eve with friends who have homes in St Helena and go regularly to the Bistro. It was great fun and festive but very noisy with a very large party. If it wasn't New Years it would have been intolerable because it was so hard to talk, but I suspect this was an unusual evening and in some ways it was fun because it was so festive. The food was good and the service wonderful, but the crab had way too much butter. Will definitely return on a quieter evening!
This is our favorite spot in Saint Helena. The service is always excellent and the food is always great!
Great place! Food was fantastic! I wasn't expecting that good, they really surprised us both. Our waitress was excellent! Wish I could remember her name. I told her the St Helena olive oil people sent me. I'm a local massage therapist and now will be sending people to you. Everything we had was excellent. Ty
Great local place in St Helena. Very friendly service and good food at very reasonable prices
Love St Helena Bistro-- food is always outstanding!
Excellent service. The lamb shank was a little too salty. Food is good.
We stopped in for lunch while wine tasting & it hit the spot. I enjoyed the chicken tostados from the small plate section & it was anything but small! So fresh & flavorful. The rest of the group had burgers & they were all delicious.
Our experience at the St. Helena Bistro was mixed. The food was very good; for openers, I think that was the freshest and best chicken tortilla soup I've ever had! The avocado salad was also delicious. The downside was the service - there pretty much was none. We were seated, placed our order and then left to fend for ourselves.
Delicious food, friendly atmosphere, excellent wait staff.
Tasty risotto !!was beautiful presentation !
No corkage for locals is a real plus for us!
Not recommend. Both the quality and quantity of Steak were bad. It was terribly overcooked. In the menu it said it's 12 oz.. but it was probably 8 oz when it was raw. There was no service. Very disappointed.
Great little restaurant in Napa Valley. LITTLE being the operative word but don't let that keep you away. I think total inside seatng might be about less than 50 and about three or four four-tops outside. We made our rezo through Open Table and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Service was friendly, quick and accurate. Our table had eggplant parmesan, avacado bacon burger, crispy chicken burger, and avacado salad, truffles and regular fries. No one left any food left on their plates! As we had been wine tasting earlier, we opted for iced tea for drinks. All of the food was very well prepared, fresh and tasty. Highly recommend. Just wish I had remembered to take pictures! Sorry!!!
The food was average. The chicken dish had over powering amount of Lemon. There were flies in sides the restaurant (urghh). The only saving grace was the service.
Very very tasty! All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Every dish I have had so far is better than the next. And not napa valley prices, very affordable. Go now!
Love this place, never fails to please the palette. Food fresh and delicious, service attentive but not overbearing and great value for price. One of our must stops when we are up in St. Helena.
Lovely people run this local establishment and go out of their way to be accommodating. We had a wonderful meal there and look forward to returning soon.
Smaller establishment with the option to dine inside or outside on the patio. Variety of casual food options which is great for lunch. We made reservations in advance for Saturday at 12:30 but could have easily just showed up without issue as the restaurant didn't get busy until 1/1:30. Found parking fairly easily on the surround side/back street behind the restaurant.
The name of this restaurant is perfect because its not really big enough to be a restaurant but a bistro. The server was very good to us. All the food was hot and tasted like it was just made. After ordering the main course it took alittle bit of time to come, but when you get it you will understand. VERY tasty!! And the gelato was very good. Don"t expect normal St. Helena high price on the bill as they have resonable prices and the quality of the food is perfect!
