A celebration of sustenance may best describe Chef Aaron Chamberlin’s restaurant, St. Francis. Located in a historic building on Camelback Road, just east of Central in uptown Phoenix, the family-owned, family-built and family-run restaurant welcomes patrons to a neighborhood gathering place. The repurposed space was transformed with a comfortably modern and rustic sensibility that echoes the honest, spontaneous “wood-fired cuisine. St. Francis is for everyday nourishment for families, couples and even for special occasions.
It’s for connecting with the community and sharing the pleasure of simple, honest and good food. The name, “St. Francis,” was derived from the
neighborhood land deed that dates back to 1936. It was originally owned by the Brophy family. In addition, the name, “St Francis,” is Spanish for San
Francisco, a city that figured largely in Chef Chamberlin’s background.

One of the premier restaurants in Phoenix.From the house salad to the green chili, one detects a great Kitchen. Service was right on. Great wine list . The wines were well chosen, at a fair price.

St. Francis has a quaint atmosphere - nothing fancy, just aluminum top tables and a room with a vibe. The place is eclectic as are most of the patrons. There could be more variety on the menu but the food is OK. The service is generally outstanding. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. We will probably return.

I heard good things a while ago so we thought we'd try it out. Service: Arrived on time for our 7:15 res. Five minutes in, someone brings water to our table. it turns out it was our waiter, but he didn't say a word. He disappears. For 10 minutes we are wondering who our servers is. Then he comes for our drink order. Disappears for another 5 to 10 minutes. returns with half the drinks and we wait for 5 for one beer. We order 3 appetizers. Two come. I order one of the wood fired dishes, Pork chop. They just ran out. So I order the Pork Chile Verde. It's out. Now mind you these are regular menu items, not specials. I'm easy though. I go with the chicken. 10 minutes later, the pork chop arrives. Very rare. Unseasoned. The soup that was underneath it was room temperature. I say soup, but it was supposed to be a compote of beans, sausage and other items. I think I got the bottom of the pot. It was a mish mosh. The third appetizer, mussels came in the middle of dinner and was not hot. Over all, the food was not seasoned. basic. salt and pepper does wonders. Baked goat cheese appetizer. Not seasoned. Goat cheese, the most bland goat cheese I've ever tasted. Tomato sauce underneath. no seasoning. Bread served with it, sliced baguette, some toasted, some not. Wife had hamburger. Bun tasteless. Burger, NOT SEASONED. Are you getting the picture? Son had French Dip. If it weren't for the jus, there would have been no flavor. My daughter had the best dish and it was very good. The pizza with figs. Fire the chef and put the pizza maker in charge of the kitchen. Thankfully she got the best dish. It was her birthday. The kitchen staff is phoning it in. I'm sorry. I'm in the food biz for 37 years. I don't write reviews often. I dropped $200 for the dinner including a 20% tip that was undeserved. Place is nice, comfortable. It could be a really great neighborhood restaurant. Best of luck, but I won't be back.

We love St. Francis. This particular time, they seemed to be behind, though. The table behind us bad been waiting over an hour and we had to wait for our table despite having a reservation. The waiter was friendly, but again, things seemed to be moving slowly. They did bring out bread to hold everyone over which was a nice thought. Food was good- their pumpkin soup is fantastic. Good sangria, too.

Recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. We reserved a table for Christmas Eve, our first night in Phoenix. Great food, great atmosphere. Everything was delicious. Looking forward to our return.

food was good, good sized portions, and the service was excellent! it was christmas eve and we were celebrating a birthday, they made it very nice and special for us. only negative - the music was very loud and it was hard to hear folks at the table, we asked them to turn it down....but don't think it happened...overall it was very nice dining experience- would return again
