St. Francis Winery & Vineyards
Ambiance, setting, view, food, wine: all outstanding. The reason it didn't get 5 stars overall is the time frame is cramped. It really needs to be 3 hours to be properly enjoyed but they cram it into a 2 hour slot. We chose the 3:00 seating to help with that, but they started late and didn't take the hint that we weren't ready to move on to the next course until we'd all finished the current one. Also one group arrived late and although we were just in the first course they made them skip it.
This is one of the best experiences you can have in the Wine Country. Our 2019 visit to St. Francis was our seventh annual wine & food pairing at the winery and our first under new chef Trevor Eliason. As in previous years, the setting was spectacular with striking vineyard views from the elegant dining room seating 15 to 20 guests. The five courses of small plates created by Chef Eliason were delicious and imaginative -- and, we felt, even heartier than in the past. And the pairing of each course with St. Francis' excellent wines was most complementary and instructive with the characteristics of each wine and dish reinforcing one another. Insightful remarks from the knowledgeable staff pointed out the gastronomic synergies and contrasts at play. We personally look forward to returning each year. And it makes a terrific treat for any relatives or friends who may be visiting you in the Sonoma Valley area.
If you enjoy learning about food and wine pairing or just the experience of fine dining with selections from an outstanding winery and culinary team in a magnificent setting this is something not to be missed. I’ve been though the program several times and it’s a home run every time.
Thanks to the team at St Francis for another wonderful event!
The food was outstanding. The wine was ok but the highlight to me was the food. That then gets to the value at $85 pp I believe we had an introductory pour and then 5 more pours so it was somewhat reasonable. I just wish the wines were more memorable.
Very creative dishes paired perfectly with their excellent featured wines.
Our 4th time, we do this every winter. This time food was very meat oriented, my wife did like the food previous times better. Wine was superior, ended buying 6 mixed bottles. Will be back next winter.
The food and wine pairing was so delicious, beautiful, the wine paired with the food was perfect! We had dietary restrictions and the far exceeded our expectations in how well they accommodated us. I highly recommend their food and wine!
Wonderful pairing with fabulous wines!
Foods and menu changes with the seasons and the wines...really special!
This was a delightful lunch. We look forward to returning!
We have been here several times and are members. It wasn’t the most memorable meal of all that we’ve had but still very delicious and the wines always paired well. Will continue to go back and bring friends each time.
Our food and wine pairing experience with my family was a wonderful adventure with very good dishes and some excellent wine pairings. Christina's help in arranging the event was much appreciated. Meeting her, and having her chat with my family, made the visit much more personal. Thank you Christina!
Our group's assessment of the overall experience is that it was very enjoyable. No real serious suggestions to improve it. We have a few wine connoisseurs in the group so, they of course, evaluated the wines served with the dishes we ate with a much more critical palette. The only thing I did not enjoy was the Wagyu beef/pork patty. It was probably an excellent pairing for the wine with which is was presented but, for me, it was "tough" and a bit on the not very flavorful side. With cuts of meat that are so lean I understand why it would have not been as tender as I would have liked. Of all of us who were eating/drinking, I have the least developed wine palette. But I do have a very well developed taste/flavor palette when it comes to food. I would have preferred the beef presented on its own. in a manner that would have paired as well with the wine served as the chef thought the beef/pork combination did.
Finally, if possible, it would have been very nice if a BIG fire was going in the fireplace in the dining room. The room is so large...it can support a much bigger fire which would, in turn, provide a bit more ambience. The communal nature of the dining experience was great, but the room itself is a so large, without much other decor, that a "roaring" fire would have enhanced the event even more.
All in all, a truly delightful experience and highly recommended.
great great great.
This was my fourth visit over two years and the result is the same, great food, great wine and a great experience.
Excellent multi course food and wine pairing. Each course freshly prepared, some with inventive combinations of flavors. The duck confit was only ok. The rest were very good to superb. The price increase takes the value down a notch from the five previous times we’ve enjoyed this pairing experience.
perfect pairing of the perfect foods with the best wines in Sonoma. expertly done in a beautiful setting.
We enjoyed our tasting at St. Francis Winery as we celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary. The views, wine, and pairings made it a special. The chef and staff are incredible.
Always a fun afternoon, but this year was fantastic. New chef is very talented. Overall great day.
A very special experience!!
The wine and food pairing is exceptional!
Fantastic! This was a great experience. The food, people, and wine were all absolutely wonderful. We all will be back again!
One member in our group even joined the wine club - the wine was that great! One of the other guests Andy, was an unexpected treat! Thank you for the hospitality, wine, and delicious meal!
Attended the Food and Wine pairing during the week before Christmas. Due to low attendance, we received very personal service. The food was excellent, very varied and chosen to compliment the flight of wines served.
Although the event is pricey per person, the ambiance of being at the St. Francis Winery makes it a very special occasion. The Food and Wine pairing circular table (accommodates up to 16 people in a seating) is set overlooking the vineyard.
The common tasting room was decorated for Christmas and smelled great. Overall ambiance was beautiful and welcoming. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
This was our 5th time and everything was outstanding! The food was fabulous and beautifully plated. The setting was lovely & the service was fun and efficient. The circular table gets everyone talking which is really fun. Don't miss it!
New chef but as always terrific. Good winter menu.
We always enjoy this wine paring meal! Such a delight with excellent wine and food!
We've been coming to the food and wine pairing here at St. Francis for the last few years. We were always impressed by the offerings of the last chef, Brian Jones, and weren't sure what to expect with the new chef, Trevor Eliason. No reason to worry....the food was delicious and paired well with the delicious St. Francis wines. Risotto with lobster, then pork belly, then duck....amazing! The only miss for us was the dessert...the salted caramel ice cream was very good, but the dry cake and undercooked pear were disappointing. But overall, we thought the food was great and will definitely be back again!
Excellent wine and food pairing.
This is our 5th time attending the wine pairing, AWESOME. We have made this a yearly tradition.
The whole experience from the food to the service was excellent! Can't wait to go again.
The service here is impeccable. The food pairing experience is charming as well as thoroughly delicious. The staff there genuinely care about your experience and it really really shows.
One of the best places I know. Amazing food and wine paired beautifully . A very soecial experience.
Amazing tasting experience in a gorgeous setting. The food and wine were superb. Would definitely recommend and we are looking forward to coming again!
Went for the tasting menu. It lived up to all of our expectations. The wine selections were solid. We bought three of the ones we were served. The food pairings were top notch. Very creative and well put together. To top it off, the experience was just plain fun. It is set up as a group event. (you and several friends you have not yet met). Everyone is seated at the same time. Two half-circled tables face each other, each seating about ten people, with room in between for the servers. So you face all the other diners, and see everyone's reactions to the tastings. From the middle of the circle, the hosts can then explain the pairings as they are served. At the end, the chef comes out to explain his take on each dish. We did not regret the moderate cost. The whole experience was well worth it. Next time we are two thousand miles away from home, we will come again!
Great food and wine. Very friendly staff and great experience.
The tasting menu here is fabulous and its a great way to spend an afternoon. Great place to bring friends and visitors from out of town. Both wine & food are excellent
Great ambiance, knowledgeable staff in explaining both the wines & food they are paired with.
The food is, in a word is outstanding!!!
I look forward to this event every year & have recommended St. Francis to many of my friends!
Absolutely fabulous setting. Ample wines pours and as much as they would like the wine to be the star of the show, the food was phenomenal. With that said, it was made even better by the wines. The only thing that would have made it better was bigger portions of both! Small intimate setting. Also, have an open mind - I was not excited about a few things on the menu and surprised myself at how much I enjoyed them!
Wonderful group seating very informative about the wines. I will definitely be back.
The Food & Wine Pairing was a special experience. We got to taste some wonderful wines and learn a little bit about them, and also sample some yummy food. It was also an opportunity to interact with other food and wine loving people in a relaxed and intimate environment.
Way too rushed to enjoy our wine and food pairings.🙁
I joined the St Francis Wine Club after my second visit to the winery. Wether it’s food or wine you seek this place sits at the top of my lists.
