St. Elmo Steak House Ratings and Reviews
Amazing experience as usual. Service is beyond reproach, skilled waiters and waitresses that are truly masters of their craft. Steak always cooked to perfection and the mashed red potatoes are to die for. My only complaint Is that something didn’t taste quite right with the shrimp cocktail. I have had it several times before and there were some sort of aftertaste this time that kind of ruined it for me. I will be back without a doubt, best restaurant in Indianapolis.
Last time we were here it was phenomenal! By far the best steak, food, service we had ever had in our lives. From out of state and couldn't wait until the next time in Indy to come back. It was our anniversary both times. This time it wasn't as great. The waiter offered the special ribeye. We were both going to get the ribeye since that's what we had last time. So we got the special since we thought it would be even better. It was like $20 more each, which we didn't expect, and it wasn't nearly as good as last time. For $20 more it should have been a lot better that before. Last time I could cut my steak with a fork, this time we had to use a knife. Didn't taste as well. I've had better steak at Outback. We were offered lobster soup as well. Didn't realize it was an additional $8!!! We go to Indy every year with a ton of people. We probably won't be back to the restaurant. Extremely disappointed.
2nd time there. Love the shrimp cocktail but twice ordered the ribeye. First time standard cut from menu. Asked for medium rare and it was rare at best. Good flavor but chewy. Second time ordered the 60 day dry age medium. At first it was very good but as I got into the middle it was again rare at best, cool red center. Again flavor great but disappointed. I’ll go back and next time ask for a strip.
Food was great however the table we were seated at had a cold draft every time the AC kicked on. We ended up eating dinner with our winter coats on. When we complained to the manager he apologized but said that is how old buildings are. Way too much money to be freezing during the experience.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly, our waiter , Dana was prepared and very knowledgeable to answer all our questions about wine . The shrimp cocktail was out of this world. We both had strip steak and it was perfectly done. The atmosphere, food and service cat be beat! I stop in every time I’m in Indy.
As we all know, St. Elmo's is known for their great steaks & shrimp cocktail. But they continue to provide great service along with the very good food and the ambiance is worth the extra cost of the meal. Waiters don't rush you to turn over the table so you can enjoy your meal along with conversation with your fellow guests and not feel like you need to eat & run. Our waiter was very funny and knowledgeable about the wine list as well as the actual menu.
Just a very enjoyable meal & evening!
The service was amazing and on target, no pestering just prompt. Food was excellent, we both had the shrimp cocktail, so we weren't all that hungry and we split a ribeye. Plenty to eat. And no charge for a slit plate. I think it would be hard to go wrong at St. Elmo's !
Amy Yantiss is an outstanding server...,very kind warm and inviting ... all my guest felt comfortable and personally thanked her for her great service. She would be a reason to have business dinner at St Elmo's ... On the other hand you have a stiff bunch behind the bar and host stand... not impressed with these folks.
Kate was our server and she was outstanding. We were there on the evening of December 4 th and my husband ordered the 30 year Balvenie. She spoke to the in- house scotch resources to be able to explain the flavor profile to him to ensure he would enjoy the experience. Her description was perfection. Truly enhanced the entire dining experience. Thank you, really well done. Food was fantastic across the board.
Had an amazing evening and experience! Sean was our server and did an amazing job! The food was perfect! Of course we had the shrimp cocktail which was new for our guests first time. We also had the special cocktail that was recommended with Makers Mark and coke or Dt. Coke. It had special cherries that were soaked in bourbon. I had to have two! The steaks and baked potato were perfect! I love the old traditions they have held for over 100 years. The navy bean soup is one of them!
Every year my friends and I have Christmas dinner at St. Elmos. It's our treat for putting up with each other throughout the year! The food is always outstanding as well as the service. The Sunday 3 course deal along with the upgrades is an incredible value!
My food was good, however my wife ordered her NY Strip medium well. The steak was tough and very rare. We sent it back three times, but it was never cooked to her liking. You would expect an establishment that’s “World renowned” to get a fresh steak and start over. Oh well, they took her steak off the bill.
Our 2nd trip to St. Elmo's before the Big Ten championship game. Old school steakhouse with top notch service and excellent food. The filet was the best steak I ever ate. The shrimp cocktail didn't disappoint, and we discovered the king crab mac-n-cheese, which was nothing short of fabulous. We'll be back next year to do it all again!
I mentioned it was my Sons birthday and they went out of there way to make it special including a birthday card signed and cake. Food was outstanding and my son said it was the best steak he ever had (cowboy). This kid has been to some of the top steak houses in the nation including Peter Luger’s. The famous Shrimp Cocktail was too much for him so I ate the whole thing. The waiter, Evan (who I was lucky enough to have Years ago) was outstanding and never rushed us even though it was the Big 10 championship Saturday and the place was packed. Definite must when in Indianapolis.
