St. Elmo Steak House Ratings and Reviews
Steak was burnt on the outside, mashed potatoes tasted more like sour cream than potatoes. Got a New steak and it was ok, not amazing. But not bad. And some really good French fries. ( steak was fillet mignon)
Service was awesome. I think the server I had was named Brian. He was really nice. And tried to makeup. But for 90 bucks for one person. ( 20 was probably drinks) seems expensive for “Good/okay” steak. Place is beautiful though.
This was our 1st time there. St Elmo's reputation obviously proceeds it and I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. I would say what sets it apart from other top tier steak houses is the service. Our server did a great job being attentive but not pushy or annoying. He seemed experienced and in control, not nervous or frantic as some servers can come across. The pacing of the three courses was on point. The food was very good. Me and my date both had steaks and split a few sides. I was not a fan of the green beans side. It seemed a little bit bland to me (but I still ate them). My filet was on point but I would not say it was any better than any other upper tier steakhouse. The vibe was very cool. We did not feel cramped or rushed and it had a bit more of speak-easy , adult atmosphere which I personally like. Price-wise it was quite fair for an establishment of its caliber. All in all, highly recommended.
Wonderful meal! I had the filet while my husband had the lamb chops. Both cooked perfectly and were absolutely delicious. We very much enjoyed it, were miserably stuffed, and had excellent service. The wine list was extensive and our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Overall wonderful experience.
Our party enjoyed our evening to the fullest. Our table was ready upon our arrival, the server was pleasant and accommodating. The food was appetizing in appearance, as well as taste. It was served in a timely manner and the table was cleared as needed. We know we will be returning very soon!
Amazing experience as usual. Service is beyond reproach, skilled waiters and waitresses that are truly masters of their craft. Steak always cooked to perfection and the mashed red potatoes are to die for. My only complaint Is that something didn’t taste quite right with the shrimp cocktail. I have had it several times before and there were some sort of aftertaste this time that kind of ruined it for me. I will be back without a doubt, best restaurant in Indianapolis.
Last time we were here it was phenomenal! By far the best steak, food, service we had ever had in our lives. From out of state and couldn't wait until the next time in Indy to come back. It was our anniversary both times. This time it wasn't as great. The waiter offered the special ribeye. We were both going to get the ribeye since that's what we had last time. So we got the special since we thought it would be even better. It was like $20 more each, which we didn't expect, and it wasn't nearly as good as last time. For $20 more it should have been a lot better that before. Last time I could cut my steak with a fork, this time we had to use a knife. Didn't taste as well. I've had better steak at Outback. We were offered lobster soup as well. Didn't realize it was an additional $8!!! We go to Indy every year with a ton of people. We probably won't be back to the restaurant. Extremely disappointed.
2nd time there. Love the shrimp cocktail but twice ordered the ribeye. First time standard cut from menu. Asked for medium rare and it was rare at best. Good flavor but chewy. Second time ordered the 60 day dry age medium. At first it was very good but as I got into the middle it was again rare at best, cool red center. Again flavor great but disappointed. I’ll go back and next time ask for a strip.
After hyping this to my fellow team members for over a month, I was sadly let down and outright embarrassed by the food quality at St Elmo. My medium rare, was Rare, anothers was way over cooked, one was ok, another was fine and lastly, our newest team member, later became sick after eating his strip steak.
Ive been coming to Indy for many many years and have always looked forward to visiting St Elmo, but after our experience on Wednesday, I will be looking to visit other restaurants in the area.
I would suggest that management here, talk a walk north, on the same street and visit a certain Steak house on the same side of the street. They have it going on and could show you guys some much needed upgrades that St. Elmo is needing.
Food was great however the table we were seated at had a cold draft every time the AC kicked on. We ended up eating dinner with our winter coats on. When we complained to the manager he apologized but said that is how old buildings are. Way too much money to be freezing during the experience.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly, our waiter , Dana was prepared and very knowledgeable to answer all our questions about wine . The shrimp cocktail was out of this world. We both had strip steak and it was perfectly done. The atmosphere, food and service cat be beat! I stop in every time I’m in Indy.
As we all know, St. Elmo's is known for their great steaks & shrimp cocktail. But they continue to provide great service along with the very good food and the ambiance is worth the extra cost of the meal. Waiters don't rush you to turn over the table so you can enjoy your meal along with conversation with your fellow guests and not feel like you need to eat & run. Our waiter was very funny and knowledgeable about the wine list as well as the actual menu.
Just a very enjoyable meal & evening!
