Prime rib is huge to say the least! Done perfectly and very flavorful... enough to share unless you have a MASSIVE appetite!
Went for the Devour Indy event and it was lovely as always. I find depending on where we are seated it is sometimes cramped at the table. Otherwise it is a lovely special experience. Because it is rather expensive I don't go there very often but the food is always wonderful and it is a special treat.
This used to be my "go to" steakhouse in Indianapolis. When I visited back in November, my steak was "ok" but I shrugged it off as an anomaly. However, my most recent visit was just more of the same. It's not that the steaks are bad, they have just become bland and not as flavorful. Other little annoying things like not receiving a booth I can deal with - because I go there for the steak. But after another disappointing ribeye, which happened to be the "special" for the evening I am done making the trip downtown.
We love St. Elmo's. Anytime we are in town, we try and make it at least for a drink and shrimp cocktail!
Met expectations on all accounts. We went during Devour Indy and were impressed with their menu, quality of food, and the price - allowing us to sample a variety of food at a place we don't get to visit often. Service was impeccable.
Great restaurant for steak. The wait staff seemed to be rushing us along, but only slightly.
The New York strip steak was excellent. The shrimp cocktail was the best. All ingredients were very fresh. The chicken was very flavorful an cooked well. Presentation was also very appealing. Many people to serve and were very friendly and helpful. Good place to celebrate a special occasion.
Steak (filet) was a 3 out of 5 compared with comparable steakhouses.
Everything about St. Elmo is overrated. The one good thing about it was the staff. Everyone was very friendly and seemed to be enjoying themselves.
My husband and I came to St. Elmo’s for our one year anniversary dinner. It was our first time eating there. Everything was delicious, and the service was great! We’ll definitely be back!
All our food was excellent except for the bone in filet which had more grizzle then meat.
Excellent service and setting. Great value fixed price menu. Great shrimp cocktail as always.
We had 4 filets they were all
Borderline warm/cold. And dry. We ordered them medium and that was okay. Love the place but will order filets from Ruth Chris and something different from st elmo’s.
Great Time and Food + the drinks were perfect, excellence choice for a Birthday dinner, though some in the family wished there more selections for steak sauce.
I ordered the bone-in filet, cooked medium. Even with a steak knife it was like trying to cut a wide strip of elastic. Not just some fat and marbling, the steak was full of gristle. About 10 minutes into trying unsuccessfully cutting the steak I just gave up. I could have brought the issue to our waiter's attention but it was a celebratory evening with two good friends, so I just finished my baked potato and didn't want to start a downer situation. The shrimp appetizer was OK, the cream brulee for desert was delicious, my decaf coffee was served only lukewarm.
I'm from the Dallas area, flew to Indy for the weekend, and I made the reservations for us. It seems St Elmo's does a great job of marketing their restaurant, but actually experiencing it was a huge disappointment. I will not be a return guest , I cannot come close to recommending.
This was mine and my husbands first tine here. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was awesome. The atmosphere was nice...it was a little loud. Not the most romantic, but great food. It is pricey, but worth it for a special occassion.
My steak was horrible. It was very tough to cut and was undercooked
My husband waited 15 minutes for his entree after we had all been served and unfortunately when it finally arrived it was not cooked as he requested. We did indulge in some dessert but were not asked if we wanted coffee or an after-dinner drink which I always oblige, I tried to stay positive and figured I saved myself some calories. My husband and I have been to St Elmo’s a half dozen times and never had a bad experience. I guess you can't hit it out of the park every time.
Amazing food! Amazing service! Be sure to check out the deals if you were headed to a Pacers game afterwards.
I brought my wife to Indianapolis just to try St. Elmo's. I came about 5 years ago and couldn't say enough about the food. Well this was a different experience. I ordered the special aged rib and she ordered the normal rib. We also ordered some mash, greens and spinach on the side. First the atmosphere is great and friendly and chuck is still working the bar since then. The aged steak came out rear when I ordered it medium. My wife's came out medium. I requested the steak to be cooked over. They brought the same steak back burned and dry and in the same plate. (They brought me fresh mash though in a new plate). I should say my wife's steak was dry also even though it was cooked medium. The greens tasted burnt and flavorless for the non burnt ones. The mash was unfortunately dull, lacking flavor.
I ordered a crown and coke and it was all crown very little coke. (Ricardo my server did split it into 2 glasses for me). Ricardo was great and so were the Service staff. The other issue was they did not bring me new utensils with my meal they just put the used one from our apps back on the table for us to reuse. The shrimp cocktail was splendid and so was the ceaser salad. Overall this experience was very underwhelming and this location is off my great steakhouse list. The manager did remove my steak and the bill was 100 dollars for nothing. Thank God for white castle to feed me after this disappointing dinner.
Great dinner date. Wasn't the best steak we've ever had - by far so don't go expecting something special there but was a nice dinner.
Amazing service and steaks! Our server Glynn was amazing.
Absolutely loved our waiter Phillip!! He was so personable, knowledge of menu, history of place. He acted like he enjoyed being a server, it wasn’t just a job to him!! Next year when we return, we are going to ask for him as our waiter again!!
Great meal, great time, always enjoy dining in the directors room. Our server Mark Y. was exceptional.
Little disappointed, thought would be better. Wait staff seemed rushed and not very attentive. Seemed more interested on just getting your order and getting you out as soon as possible. In addition both our steaks were very undercooked. When we let our server know, really didn't seem that concerned about it. Much better steak houses to go to for the same amount of money you will spend here.
What makes St. Elmos such a great experience is the staff. Many can cook an excellent steak, but too few can serve it with such excellance.
Always enjoy St. Elmo's Prior to every Indiana Pacer Game! Part of our tradition!
The food was incredible service was excellent enjoyed it very much!
Must have the famous shrimp cocktail sauce it truly is amazing. The staff and hostess were friendly and fantastic.
Great place to take clients/coworkers when in town! Service is incredible and the steaks are absolutely amazing!!
The selection on the menu was really good. Even if you aren't a steak eater, there are other things that would appeal to you. Although I was a bit puzzled about the pairing of bean soup or tomato juice with the choice of your steak, it worked. The tomato, onion salad with the homemade vinaigrette was delicious. The brussel sprouts were super tasty accompanied by bacon, they had a hint of sweet early in the bite that I just didn't care for. The world famous shrimp cocktail was like one I had never had before. It came with four shrimp mixed into the homemade cocktail sauce that had a spice like I had never experienced. It had big rustic pieces of horseradish straight from the root, and when taken in huge bites it comes around into your nostril and surprises you. Worth it though!
Terrific meal at St. Elmo's, which is a restaurant excelling at everything that has made it an Indianapolis institution for over a century. From shrimp cocktail to filet fixed to perfection to delicious bread pudding for dessert, my wife, our neighbors, and I enjoyed this trip a lot.
St. Elmo lived up to their reputation. The shrimp cocktail, ribeye, seafood linguine and creme brulee were fantastic. I'd go again anytime!
We appreciated the immediate call when my friend left his credit card.
Great meal as always. St. Elmo is always on my personal "Top 5 Steakhouses in the US" list. Server Bill (been there over 30 years) is a star. Flawless and always consistent. One of the few fine dining or steak restaurants in the country that doesn't screwup steak temps. Rare is always rare. Medium Rare is always Medium Rare. You'd be amazed how few restaurants are actually capable of that anymore.
What can you say about St. Elmo that hasn't already been said. It is a classic steakhouse of the old school, but it never feels stuffy. The shrimp cocktail is the signature dish, and if you love the acute pop of horseradish in your nostrils, it is a must. The prime rib is, simply put, one of the best pieces of meat around. It's huge (38 oz!), but with the bone and fat, taking up about half of that, it is more like like a 16 oz steak, perfect for sharing or leftovers.
The service is outstanding--always friendly and welcoming. The wine list is extensive, and the cocktails are great. St. Elmo has earned its reputation.
It is expensive. A couple can easily spend $150 w/ tax and tip on food alone, but it makes for a great night out.
Our dining experience was Excellent! Our server was top notch, very attentive, but not over attentive. Our food was served HOT and very tasteful. Could not have asked for anything more! We will be back.
Amazing food, great service, something everyone should experience at least once.
Best filet I have ever had. Cooked perfectly to temperature, and melted in my mouth. Everyone in my party had similar feelings.
