St. Arnolds Mussel Bar in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC is a Belgian-style beer bar and restaurant. It serves a wide range of traditional brasserie foods in a cozy, relaxing environment. There are many Belgian beers on tap, as well as a full bar. The kitchen emphasizes market-fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients to complement its beer list.
Some of the standout dishes at St. Arnolds Mussel Bar in Dupont Circle include Flemish onion soup, poached pear salad and house made meatloaf with herb mashed potatoes and coleslaw. There are also authentic Belgian specialties like beef carbonade, steamed mussels and Liege waffles at St. Arnold's Mussel Bar in Dupont.
St Andrews has all the charm of a neighborhood pub, serving above average food with extensive beer selections. It's bare bones decor fits the narrative. I half expected "Norm" from Cheers to walk in, the regulars greeting him by name.
Beat place for mussels. I'd pay the same price just to have the broth they come in
Went with a party of nine on a weeknight and had a great experience. Two servers took care of us and both were attentive and helpful. Get there in time for happy hour drink specials! We shared several different kinds of mussels; generous portions and delicious flavors. Fairly loud but the overall vibe was down-to-earth and laid back. Definitely will be back!
The mussels and beer at St. Arnold's are fantastic! I felt like I was back in Belgium! Their waffles are excellent as well. Service is outstanding and very friendly!
We love the mussels. They are outstanding as was the service.
The seating is tight and fairly uncomfortable but they again it is a bar.
Great food! Service was fantastic! Their selection of mussels cooked in beer is pretty expansive. It's a like a quiet neighborhood bar that happens to make good food. Would recommend.
I have been to st Arnold's a few times and every time it is wonderful. The people are nice, the beer is good and the food is awesome. I went here with 16 other people to celebrate my graduation and we were treated so well. The waitress was awesome and never missed a beat. I would recommend to anyone
Can't say enough good things about St. Arnold's! It's the place to go in DC for delicious mussels! And even if you don't eat mussels, the rest of the menu is exceptional as well. It's a must-taste location!
We waited at the bar for two hours, put in our name, and never got seated despite several other parties getting seated and finishing eating before we even left.
Great mussels. Very helpful waitress. Service excellent
Food was good and service quick, but hostess didn't seem to know what she was doing. The bartender (blond female) was incredible. She was so attentive and suggested excellent food items. If there was a reason to come back, it would be to hang out at the bar with her.
Both the mussel dishes I had were delicious. The beer selection was great and they had great service.
Good food, and great location. However, the tables are a bit small and the space is a bit tight.
Family in town for Thanksgivingg weekend, last meal before people headed home. Unusually quiet night for St. Arnold's, likely due to the holiday weekend. Mussels terrific per usual
Really wonderful sauces with the mussels--best fries I've had in a long time.
Made a reservation for a large group on a Friday night. The party arrives scattered over a period of 15-20 minutes and the service was great, they let us get seated right away and began taking drink orders. Our server was great and friendly, as far as I know all of the orders/food/drinks all came out in a reasonable amount of time and were all delicious. I really like this place for the location, food and beer selection. My only complaint would be that there was a lack of seating, the reservation was for 16 and there were only 15 chairs (luckily one person couldn't make it) and there was only seating set up for 14 when we came in. We were all elbow-to-elbow and they had so many reservations that they couldn't add an extra table to the end. Very minor problem overall, since everything else was great.
It's a charming place located in the downstairs portion of a row house. The seating isn't too crowded, despite the small space, and the mussels are fantastic--especially the House St. Arnold. Even better is when they are half price at happy hour.
It was the mussels that we came for and The selection of mussels is excellent. I ordered the St. Arnold's specialty mussels. They were excellent, as apparently were others that my dining companions had ordered.
Our big complaint is that one could not hold a conversation without shouting,. St. Arnold's is not a place for dining and conversing. Possibly going There on a night Other that a Friday would be better.

Yum! Had a great time w hubby and friends from LA. Awesome place. The seven of us shared our different types of mussel pots. They were all very good! Waitress was sure cool and friendly. Learned later that she's actually the owner's wife. Can't wait to go back super soon!
So, a girl from Chicago picked this joint out, and DC people loved it - what a fun place! We were there on a Friday night, and the place was packed. We had to scream over each other, but we didn't mind and went with the vibe of the place. Beers were definitely flowing, and the mussels... Oh, the mussels... they were divine! I will definitely return just for those mussels : ) Good time all around!
I love this restaurant and come here regularly, but mussel count per order has decreased. Not worth the price.
The St. Arnold's mussels are some of the best I've had in DC, looking forward to going back to try their brunch menu
About 20 of my friends and I celebrated NYE here and it could not have gone better thanks to the wonderful staff, food, drinks and unbeatable service. Making the reservation was quick and easy, no deposit required, no confirmations needed, etc. We showed up with more people than our res, they were extremely accommodating, and very inviting. We were loud, probably fairly obnoxious, and soon nearly took over the whole place. For them to have to work on new years eve and still deal with a big party with nothing but smiles and good service, despite gratuity already being included, now that is impressive and very much appreciated. Thank you for being an amazing spot. Your muscles/food was DELICIOUS and your drinks reasonably priced, especially for dupont. Absolutely will recommend you to everyone I know, especially for group events. Happy New Year (thanks to you)!
The food was excellent. The only drawback to this restaurant was the noise level: it was very loud and my group had a difficult time conversing at times.
Hostess took all our food away and gave us the bill when we were still ordering more drinks. She said I'm not kicking you out, but there is a reservation I have to sit. So she basically wanted us out. But there are plenty of great bars on Dupont so we gladly left and not going back.
We had a reservation. When we got there in time for our reservation, our table wasn't ready so we waited at the bar. The hostess said they can't seat us until entire party is there. We said ok since our table wasn't ready. The table became ready 15 minute after our reservation time and the hostess said we lost our table because our entire party wasn't there. Our party arrive at a minute after the table became open and the hostess gave our table to another party so we had to wait with for another table to open.
The Scampi, washed down with a cold, crisp Belgian quaff, is the way to cure a long day in the District. The frites, well, what can you say . . . tater goodness in a bowl.
not a huge beer drinker but Belgian can tempt me. Friday night about 8pm was very very noisy, but our reservation was honored and we struggled on. Expensive beers as draft Belgian tends to be, but the $19 mussels and frites meals were fabulous. No wine to speak of except "red" or "white" but lots of beers. we 4 did not try main meals as we did not need to after mussels.
The service and food were wonderful! We went for a bachelorette dinner and enjoyed the mussels and had a blast.
Food was yummy, service was great only issue was the amount of time it took to get our food. We did have a group of seven but the wait seemed excessive
Very noisy and hard to hear. Also rather dark, though that bothered us less. Food as great, as was service.
St. Arnold's has a pub type feel and is dominated by the bar area. 4 of us went for dinner at 7 pm on a Thursday night and the noise level was so high that it was difficult to hear across the table. The service was slow, as mentioned by other reviewers, but that was OK with us because we were celebrating a birthday. The food was very good. Our table ordered bruchetta and pear salads as appetizers, all were excellent. Our entrees were Mussels St Arnold style, Waterzooi, Steak Frites, and Roasted Chicken. Also very good. The Waterzooi was a smaller portion than expected.
Can't beat the mussels, definitely a go-to for good food and a fun environment.
Great mussels and the best french fries (frites) in the world!!
St. Arnold's is a neighborhood gem. It is small and romantic with great food and beer selection. Just a little on the warm and loud side.
This used to be a five star experience. Their mussels deal was incredible. Now, not only have they raise the price by a dollar and eliminated frites from the special ($3 for a side), but they've reduced the quality of the bread and frites significantly. This was a regular spot and I will not be returning.
The onion rings, mussels, frittes and Belgian beer selection were great - especially the Mexican mussels. Would definitely visit again when in DC.
Loud. Really loud. Service was okay but not great; there were long delays for simple things like getting water. Poor service may have been partly because the waitress couldn't really hear us when we ordered. We had a party of 5 and it was impossible to hear what someone on the other side of the table was saying. The creamy mussels were very good, but my wine broth tasted very fishy. I really wanted to like this spot, but it just didn't live up to the reputation.
Great place for drinks, mussels if you like that, and good appetizers. Only 2 desert selections but they do have waffles on the menu which were yummy.
