St. Arnolds Mussel Bars Cleveland location is a traditional Belgian beer bar and brasserie in Washington DC. The kitchen at St. Arnolds Mussel Bar serves only market-fresh seafood and produce, and its full bar includes an extensive list of Belgian beers that are paired with the dishes on the menu.
Start your meal at St. Arnolds Mussel Bar with some traditional steamed mussels in a white beer broth, or one of the other traditional Belgian dishes on the menu. Some of the standout choices include beef carbonade, a classic brasserie dish and an herb meatloaf. There are also Liege-style waffles for dessert.
Mussels below average, with mediocre sauces. Beer selection good. Smell of floor cleaning fluids was also distracting...
This is a great, casual place to unwind. Split a pot of mussels and a couple drinks with my partner. Really good flavors, reasonable price, decent service, and a comfortable outdoor space. We'll be back.
Service was poor - server called out, but it meant that no one even came to our table for 20 minutes and then each piece of the process was slow. Soup came out with entrees. Food was delicious.
Love this place!
Great mussels, onion rings, beer - what else is there???
Oh yeah - fast, friendly service:)!
If you like mussels, this place is awesome. I was never a huge fan of mussels but went here with my partner because he loves mussels and I saw that it was near our house and was ranked by the City Paper as the 2nd best mussels in DC. Now I crave them! It's a small rustic beer and mussel joint with wooden tables, chairs, and a small bar. Thay have mussels in about 15 different possible sauces. I have tried several and all have been very good, but the St. Arnold's mussels and Eastern Shore mussels are exceptionally good. Great specials at happy hour every weekday and brunch on the weekend.
went to St. Arnold's with a friend who also loves mussels. The mussels were good, not great, and the wine list was extremely limited, although the beer list was extensive. The salad that could be substituted for the fries that normally come with the mussels was "meh". was an ok dining experience, probably would not be my first choice for mussels1
The food and beer was outstanding.
service was not good. waiter did not speak english well and it was hard to get his attention for additional drinks.
Had a great time letting off some steam with coworkers after a meeting, and the trivia was a lot of fun. Some in the group wished the wine selection was bigger, and my Thai Curry mussels were not as good as i had remembered but all in all it was a good night.
The mussels never disappoint! And the grapefruit beer was awesomesauce :-). The waitress was very nice and gave my sister a sample of the beer before ordering it. She also warned us 10 minutes before the end of happy hour to place last minute beer orders. I'll be back for sure
Overall, very happy with our meal. Got some burgers, mussels, and the prosciutto and pears app. Burgers were cooked perfectly, very juicy. Mussels were great, decent sized. Will be back.
A wonderful selection of different sauces for the mussels. Excellent selection of draft beers. I would recommend this restaurant to everybody.
Mike Scoglio on guitar and harmonica was amazing. What a musical genius! Went well with mussels, a couple bottles of wine and those yummy fries.
Very lively social atmosphere, closer to a bar than a restaurant. A good place to get together with groups.
Fantastic experience at the Cleveland park location. Food delicious, great service, definitely will return.
Originally tried going to the DuPont circle location and they were very rude. Bad customer service. Will not try to go there again.
I love St. Arnold's! Mussels are terrific, as are the appetizers, especially on Tuesday when they are half off (with entree). I have always enjoyed the salads, in particular the goat cheese with wild mushroom. We tried the pear salad and crostini with wild mushrooms this visit which were delicious. Looking forward to trying the other crostini preparations on future (Tuesday) visits. Oh, and Tuesday is also half-price wine night.
Belgian mussels. Great french fries. Good selection of beer and wine. Always fun. Best to go at Happy hours to save $$.
I'm not sure if there's any benefit at all to a reservation system if upon arrival the restaurant tells the guests that there isn't a table that can accommodate them. St. Arnold's should reevaluate their standard operating procedures.
Best meatloaf I've ever had. Wonderful belgian waffles. My brother said the mussels were great.
Just can't beat Saint Arnold's for their mussels! Always great
I always love the food and beer, but they are always out of a number of menu items.
Having a reservation didn't seem to matter as the only table that was offered was the end of an overcrowded communal table. The downstairs bar had space but they seemed hesitant to let us sit at the tables that they only offered after asking despite the fact that they were not hostess managed. After sitting we were ignored for a long time and even after that were treated poorly. We ended up having to leave before even ordering dinner. Very unfortunate experience since I've had good experiences at the Dupont location although I haven't eaten there.
I feel like I've left the country and traveled to Brussels when I go here. Very true to the European style food. Very delicious Mussells and frites, my favorite. I love taking friends here.
Overall we really enjoyed our experience. The beer selection and mussels were great. The service could have been a little better. They were slow on taking all of our drink orders
The food was pretty good- I had the salmon entree and my friend had the chicken entree (which seemed to come with a lot more food, for some reason). The bar tender was very friendly and it was relaxed atmosphere, though I'd expect anywhere to be relaxed on a Tuesday. There was some local stand-up comedy which might have been fun except I hadn't seen my friend in years and we wanted to catch up. So it was hard to talk while someone else wanted everyone's attention. The beer was good and the menu had several varieties I'd never had.
Overall, I'd say this is a good option if you're in the area and don't want something too expensive, but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat there.
LOVED the food, service, ambiance and beers. We sat (and highly recommend) downstairs in the bar area. The bartender and manager was attentive and willing to adjust the tvs to the channel we needed. Took my mother who was in town and it was a great choice for visitors.
Went with a friend for brunch as it was a Sunday and my preferred spot, Ripple, is closed on sundays. I thought their brunch menu wasn't all too exciting. Had breakfast burrito which was tasty but nothing too spectacular. My friend had breakfast flatbread which was actually a better choice. Bloody mary was 1/2 off at $5 but was watered down compared to what I am used to. We shared a mussels appetizer and that was pretty good.
Staff's service was a-OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again for a brunch but when craving mussels.
very poor service, forgetful staff, noisy, food so so. If there is another mussel place in DC, move on.
Great deals on mussels and not too expensive with great happy hour.
Great mussels. Bummed there was no Spencer beer
St. Arnold's was a good find. It's got a good location right off the Cleveland Park metro, which negates the fact that parking in that neighborhood can be a challenge at the best of times. The mussel selection is good, and while the pots look smaller than other restaurants, they're packed with more than enough mussels to make a filling dinner. Our server checked in quite a few times to see if we needed more bread, which is a nice touch, since both the Thai curry mussels and the Mussels St. Arnold (made with duck fat) have sauce that's worth sopping up after the mussels are gone. The beer list is not the biggest, but it definitely is filled with quality beers.
Awesome mussels. The paella mussels: mussels chicken sausage shrimps calamari rice fish
Plus schofferhofer grapefruit beer
Great mussels. Hard to beat the happy hour prices. Wide beer selection.
mussels were top notch, and the seating area by the open windows was perfect for a relaxed dinner with a big group. the st arnolds mussels were excellent with a huge portion. but the service was slow and straight up strange. i think they had some issues with their management and servers splitting bills a certain way, but it wasnt handled so politely!
Nice ambiance. Inexpensive. They were out of a number of wines. Seems like a good chef must have recently left and the second string was cooking.
My wife and I both had mussels and enjoyed them very much. The choices for Belgian beer were excellent. The service was excellent. The Abbey was almost empty when we arrived at about 5:50 p.m., but got busier during the course of our meal.
I was there for early lunch so the scene was quiet. I would expect it to be much livelier in the evening. Excellent mussels, very good beer selection. Overall very pleasant and unassuming place for both quet lunch and lively evening
I was in the mood for a plate of mussels and what could be more perfect than a mussel bar! I have never seen nor heard of a mussel bar, so this was not only a find, but the perfect place to be on a Monday night, which was "all-night happy hour"! There were generous crocks of steamed mussels in every flavor imaginable. If you are a beer lover, there were tons to choose from. If you are a wine-drinker, like myself, the wine list left much to be desired. I would've liked some refreshing options like a great sangria or ice-cold margarita, as well as higher quality wine options, to go with my mussels. The atmosphere and patio were perfect with the high-top tables and open balcony. I would highly recommend it!
I don't want to tell anyone about my brunch find, because it was so quiet and not crowded! The food was to DIE for, and the service was impeccable!
We stopped there on the way to the Kennedy Center and enjoyed quick service, good food at great prices! We have been there before and will come back!
