Found this place our last night in town. The bartender was attentive and very gracious. The food was exceptional - we had the specials ( tagliatelle for me and duck for my husband ) and very good smokey mescal cocktails. It's a beautiful space with a lovely staff and very good food.
as a gastropub, one expects something more of a casual food & presentation. I was pleasantly surprised to have experienced highly creative, excellently plated and tasty food creations, far exceeding my expectations. The service was professional, knowledgable, prompt and friendly. What else can I ask for? Well... cocktails of course, which were consistent with the rest of the experience! Creative, tasty, well presented ! Under promised, over delivered! Well done!
The food is superb but I miss the lamb tartare, which must have been seasonal last time I was in Seattle. They do proper cocktails with proper ice and glassware, which make all the difference. Portions are small but meant to share so I order one extra plate just in case.
The server was lovely and knew the details of each dish quite well. The food not only tasted delicious but we're visual works of art too (almost to pretty to eat).
The two of us chose the tasting menu and wine pairings, choosing to take both options so we were able to try everything. Told our server to go slow, and she did! Everything tasted great, and pairings went well. Noise level increased as the night went in, but never too loud.
We had a wonderful Friday night dinner at Spur. Our appetizer and entrees were superb - both tasty and creative. We will be back. However, we won't be ordering dessert again. Like so many restaurants nowadays, they left a bad taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. Despite this flaw, Spur is still a Belltown gem. Recommended.
Was looking for a foodie friendly dinner without fine dining price tags - sure it's not cheap, but the food was just fantastic. Everything hit the mark. Wholesome with well balanced flavours, both classics (beef burger: best I've ever had!) and some more adventurous combinations (lavender and fois gras milkshake? Delicious if uber rich) all worked. It's share plate style, though we picked our own mains. Great cocktails too. Would definitely come back when in town next.
For the last couple of years (since Crush closed) Spur has been my favorite restaurant in Seattle. There is no better place to go for cocktails. The food is perfectly done and is an experience without being pretentious. The staff are good or great. The ambiance is slightly antiseptic but in a way that really appeals to me. The music and art are good. It's not too loud but you can carry on a conversation without thinking you are being listened to. The prices are reasonable for what you get. I had the most perfectly cooked duck breast and the sweet potato gnudi was awesome. The tasting menu is a good way to go, and you can make minor substitutions. This is where I would take out of town foodies to show off Seattle cuisine.
We had a really nice time. Our food was really good as were our cocktails and the service was good.
Two complaints though; we sat at one of the long tall tables and my wife shared that the chairs were just really uncomfortable. Would have been better if they had backs instead of just being stools. Lastly, we ordered coffee at the end of dinner and it was not hot. Pretty warm but not hot.
Definitely stop by and try to get a table if possible for the most comfortable option. Really nice atmosphere and delicious food and drinks.
Both the food and cocktails were interesting flavors that I haven't really seen around Seattle. While everything tasted fine, the flavors don't really come together for me to create amazing dishes. We do not eat meat, so those dishes may have been better. For the amount we ate and drank it was expensive. Service was good and share plates were fairly well spaced.
We went for NYE and had a 8 (I lost count!) course meal and everything was amazing! My only critique is the dining space. I wish we could have had more room to comfortably cut and eat our food.
Prix Fixe New Years menu was well thought out, great conception of flow throughout each plate. Servers were aware and knowledgable of timing, drinks and the chefs menu. Great experience.
We had dinner here before a show and again we were very impressed. This was our second time in here and our first time for dinner. I do love small plates and with food like the Spur you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, although I thought the price was a bit steep. 1 Salmon crostini 4 bucks (although I did order 4 of them) and the drinks are amazing as well, but again small and a bit on the expensive side. However this seems to be a trend in the local bar scene. I have noticed a 2-4 dollar increase throughout Seattle with regards to the "craft" drinks.
Overall you cannot go wrong here. Fantastic food, great staff and amazing drinks. This has made my list of Top Ten places in Seattle, so I will be back.
Order the Sockeye Salmon Crostini and the Beef Heart Tartare. You will not be disappointed. The cocktails are a creation all on their own, I prefer the Bad News from Houston but venture away and try the Time Has Its Revenges. The absinthe flavors the cocktail with the perfect hint of anise.
The cocktain pairing in particular with the chef's tasting course were a real treat. This was our second time we have been there and have been exceptionally impressed. Spur it up there with the big name restaurants in Seattle.
We love Spur because of the food. We are never disappointed. My fav is the burger with a sous vide duck egg. It isn't always on the menu but whenever I ask, they always seem to accommodate. My husband is a big fan of their sweet breads, not my favorite dish in general but I will eat them here and that says something! Their beef heart tartar is outstanding too! I feel like you really can't go wrong.
The pork cheeks were truly amazing !
Very good experience. You just have to try the grass fed beef burger w onion jam, delightful! We even had a dish that we did not care for and our server was incredibly gracious and immediately removed it from our table as well as from our bill. Service and food was a definite 5 our of 5!
We enjoyed sharing several of their small plates. The tables are quite close together, so it can feel a little bit crowded (similar is restaurants in big cities in Europe). Our waiter was very kind and attentive, but the service was a bit slow--we think he must have gotten slammed with too many tables at once. Food was delicious with some unusual twists. I would definitely visit again! :)
Once again Spur delivered; great meal, cocktails and service. Considering our party of 3 had about 15 different dishes and all of them executed well with friendly service.
A small group of us went to Spur for a celebratory birthday dinner...and it was outstanding. Loved all the food and small plate portions, making it easy to share. Our server was great. Loved it.
Great food and great service! Romantic date spot :)
Diverse menu, nice local beers, and tasty food. The portions are on the small side and service was very poor. We had to remind the servers twice for our drinks, bread, food, and to get more water. Will have to give it another try to see if the service improves since the food was enjoyable.
The service was great. We arrived early for our reservation but they seated us right away. The food was great. Had a great time!
We had an exceptional experience at Spur. We chose this restaurant as a recommendation of ChefSteps, figuring what these folks recommend would be top notch. And it was! I would say to not miss everything we ordered, but anything they offer is going to be a taste delight. We had the salmon crostini which melted in our mouths, the cheddar gnudi which was light and velvety, and the pork cheeks which were rich with layers of flavor in each bite. If you are adventuresome and it is still on the menu, a must try is the black sesame cake and brittle with balsamic ice cream and compressed apple. It is a show stopper. Award winning really.
Oh, and their cocktails are very different and creative.
Thank you so much for the wonderful evening of great service (perfect balance of professional and very personable approach) and most delicious food!.
I went in with an Amazon local deal. It's a 4-course tasting menu. The food was very good, but the value wasn't. I paid extra to add the dish that everyone raves about, the salmon crostini, and it was good, but at $4/cracker it was stupid-expensive. Smoked salmon, whipped cream cheese, olive oil, and capers - yeah, not very creative either. I paid $100 for the deal, which looked like a discount at an expensive restaurant, but at the end of the night my bill was an extra $70 with tip and we left hungry. $170 for a 2-person dinner isn't all that crazy for high quality food, but I thought I was having a discounted meal. There are much better restaurants in the area where you could get much more food, at the same quality level, for half the price. The food was good, but not worth it at that price. I have no idea what a similar meal would have cost if I didn't have the Amazon deal, but even with the deal I felt ripped off. Unless you like over-paying, don't bother.
Service was perfect, by the way. The waiter was present enough to meet our needs without being pushy.
Nathaniel was the best.. Great food and service.. Recommendations for wine and food were phenomenal.. Can't wait to go again
A friend recommended Spur to me and she was absolutely right. It was delicious and the service was amazing.
Thank you!
Julie
Food is good with some creative flavors but it did not outweigh the inflated price or small portions.
I used to rate Spur as one of those exceptional gems that is hidden away in neighborhood. Their fish dish was one of the best I have ever had in my life. Moist and succulent; and that's compared to restaurants like Gary Danko, and French Laundry. I thought Spur's food was as good but more casual than the fine-dining place.
Then something changed, I still like Spur, the food is still good, but not exceptional. Dishes are a bit salty, and lack delightful surprises. Can't help but think they have changed their chef.
Slow service for both drinks and the food. The food was delish and I recommend the beef heart.
Love this place! Great date spot, delicious food and cocktails in a romantic setting. I especially loved the smoked salmon crostini! Will definitely return.
Always great food and service at Spur. And the special cocktails are a real treat.
I can't have any dairy, and it was difficult to accommodate me. But the steak was absolutely delicious.
We thoroughly enjoyed happy hour beers on tap and snacks before moving onto selections from Spur's menu. We highly recommend the salmon crostini, pork belly sliders and hamburgers. The waitstaff were not only nice and accommodating but also had great suggestions. This was our first trip to Seattle and Spur was one of the highlights.
The food is outstanding! We shared the salmon crostini (an amazing small bite), chicory salad (crisp and tasty and full of pecans), pork belly sliders and the burger. Sliders were just delicious and the burger was seared perfectly, very juicy and fries were crispy and delicious. They were quite busy for a Monday night and the service was a tad slow, but overall it was relaxed and the food was worth it. We'll be back for sure.
Excellent food but expensive for small plate sharing type plates. We liked our waiter but he seemed to often disappear for long stretches while we waited to order drinks or food. So we would ask the host for help. Then the waiter would suddenly appear. We couldn't tell if he was OK or annoyed with the host answering questions or what. A little odd but overall the staff were very friendly.
The food was quite delicious. I sampled the chicory salad (bright and delicious), duck pate (omg), salmon crostini(wow), pulled pork cheeks (mmm), burger, chicken, and sirloin (outstanding). Small portions for the price but it was a special occasion and clearly lots of love and craft went into every dish. Fantastic booze selection as long as your not a big vodka drinker. I'm not so cool by me! In fact it is nice to see a menu not heavy on vodka.
The eggplant was the best... No, the pate was the best... No, the beef was the best... Or maybe it was the dessert... Whatever it was it went well with the Rose! So refreshing on a summer evening!
Took my out of town foodie friend out to dinner and she loved it. The salmon crostini and merguez sausage were our favorite dishes. We had the balsamic ice cream that was just okay. We had two servers waiting on us throughout the meal. We had to ask the one to explain the dish while the other one offered a description without prompting. I will return to Spur. It was a delicious meal. Priced reasonably. Cool atmosphere.
Not my first time to Spur and wont be my last. Had a great salad, pork belly sliders, burger (added pork belly) and the salmon crositini. (Shared all the plates with ine other). Food was perfect and a couple good cocktails one on and one off the menu. Service was attentive considering the place was quite buzy for a wednesday evening. Recommend to all (21 over) looking for a good drink and some good shareable plates
