Spruce Farm and Fish has come a long way through all of their changes, some good, some not.
We've gone there for years (Q's, etc.) and it's better than ever. Great menu, great food.

Wanted to try a different seafood restaurant on a date with my wife. Our server was new but very courteous and attentive. The food was expensive and mediocre at best. Scallops were over cooked as was the salmon and the greens that came with the salmon were too salty to eat. The cauliflower accompanying the scallops was very dry.

I won’t come back. Will stick with Jax for good seafood in Boulder.

We went for First Bite 2017 to see what the restaurant might feature during this iconic "restaurant week". We have generally had very good dining experiences at Spruce. Unfortunately, this meal was a mixed bag. Our starters were a mixed green salad and New England clam chowder. The salad was nothing special but the chowder was outstanding and we are picky about clam chowder having spent 20 years in Boston. Our entrees were steak with frites with some mixed greens and salmon with a mushroom veloute sauce, sautéed greens and a mushroom, leek bread pudding. The steak was delicious, nice cooked with crispy fries. The salmon was tender with a nice pan-fried finish but then slathered in a tasteless, unappealingly-hued brown sauce aka the veloute. A touch of citrus or balsamic vinegar might have brightened the concoction but let's just call it a miss. The sautéed greens were salty and garlicky and perhaps might have stood tall against a better protein but were worth skipping and the bread pudding cube was simply inedible. Kudos to the server for noticing and the asking and offering a replacement but appetites were diminished at that point. The only choice for dessert were profiteroles filled with mint chocolate. Flaccid dough, served cold with a smattering of what seemed like decent chocolate fighting a losing battle against the overwhelming mint flavor. Our server was very nice and solicitious but the team serving approach needs some work as a dining experience feels rushed and perfunctory.

Great service this time around (last time the server was pretty flaky) . Brussel sprout appetizer was delicious even though I went there with a friend for brunch...very nice Mimosas, although the lattes just don't come out quickly (same last time) , but will go again. Brunch menu is just different enough to be interesting, and the server's honesty about who was cooking in the kitchen relating to how the quality of food was, was really refreshing. Will be back!!!

My boyfriend and I hosted a dinner for some of his key partners and colleagues after the CU vs. USC game on 11/11. I knew the restaurant would be busy, but assumed that they would be able to handle our party since it was an early reservation. It was an unbelievably bad experience. Our server clearly hadn't been trained to handle a large (7-person party). He took our order for wine, brought out glasses and then disappeared for several minutes before returning with the bottle. When we ordered a 2nd bottle of wine, he took the order, brought new glasses and then inexplicably took them off the table. He then returned with our wine and asked us if he had brought fresh glasses. At that point we assumed he was high.

Our food took more than 45 minutes to arrive after we placed our order, however we were given no explanation or apology. When our server brought our salads (which were drenched in dressing and lacked most of the ingredients), we noticed that he held the bowls with his thumbs in them. Needless to say, we didn't eat them. When our entrees finally arrived (delivered by other servers and bus boys), it was cold and unappetizing. No one, including our server, stopped by our table to ask how our food was. And no one cleared any empty plates or wine glasses - we had to push them to the center of the table in order to make room for our entrees.

I was astonished to see the managers hanging out at the front of the restaurant. They weren't checking on any of the tables, even though it was quite clear that the staff was in crisis mode.

7 people + starters + entrees + 3 bottles of wine = a very large tab and a horrible dining experience. My boyfriend and I will never go there again.

My husband and I dined here for the first time. The food was very good but there are major problems with the service. Our server was very polite but inattentive. We only ordered water and a soft drink for our beverages and got those right away. We ordered an appetizer to share and two entrees. We waited a very long time for our food. Our appetizer was deviled eggs so that shouldn't have taken long. During our wait the server never checked to see if we needed more water or soft drink. Our food was brought by a person other than our original server. Our appetizer came with our entrees. We didn't want the appetizer at that point because now there was too much food all at once. We kept it anyway but this is no way to serve a meal. Our server came to our table when we were halfway finished with our meals and got us more water. She then quickly brought our bill without checking if we wanted dessert. We planned to order dessert but that didn't seem to be an option so we paid the bill and ate dessert elsewhere. Also, there were several servers doing prep work and training behind the table where we were seated. They spoke loudly enough to be quite distracting. The restaurant was not busy at all on a Saturday at 2PM. I can't recommend this restaurant because of the poor service and the timing of the food. These are rookie mistakes and should not be an issue for a restaurant like Spruce Farm & Fish.

Lacking in value; $30 for 4 small scallops and minimal additions on the dish. Overcooked as well. One person got the trout and it was literally half the size of a normal serving at other restaurants, also lacking the additional ingredients.
Hostess was confused it seemed; waitress was not friendly; lighting was really weird. Bright ceiling lights; terrible ambiance.
I read other reviews before going, found them to be mixed, so I thought I should give it a fair chance, now I wish I hadn't. For the price I paid for a dinner for 3, we could have been over the top pleased elsewhere.

This is the third visit to Spruce Farm & Fish. Although the restaurant was busy; it seemed way understaffed. My dish was supposed to have chorizo, cheese and homemade green chili. If they were in the dish; the amounts were so small the flavor failed to come through...
Will most likely not return.
Our primary waitress was really good, but wait times were sketchy.

This is our third time here. The first time was nice, the second time we waited over an hour for our oysters. We finally cancelled the order and left the restaurant. This time the service was poor. Our first round of drinks took about 15 minutes. When we ordered our appetizer, we told the server that we were not in a rush and were hesitant to place the rest of our order. He assured us that he would stage our order but our appetizer came a few minutes before salads and entrees came before we were finished with salads. Very rushed. A second drink was ordered during appetizers. The drink came very late (probably took 20 minutes) and was delivered when the bottle of wine came to the table. We should have sent the 2nd drink back because it came so late, but we were too polite. The Caesar salad was below average. The chicken on the Caesar was extremely over cooked. Fish dishes were nothing to brag about and the service was terrible. We had to ask another server to fill our water glass. We refilled our own wine glasses during the meal. We stacked our dishes to the end of the table because the empty plates sat there for 20-30 minutes while we waited for our check. The family at the table next to us, continued to wave their arms to try and pay their bill. The couple at the table across from us patiently waited a long time to receive and pay their bill. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, which was part of the reservation. There was no reference to the special occasion. Such a disappointing experience. A nice and historical venue with much potential, but after two bad experiences it will be hard to consider another $250 evening at SF&F. With all of the great restaurants in the area, this one will not be on the short list.

Nice restaurant in the Hotel Boulderado. Food was good, ask for the mashed sweet potatoes, they're great! generous pours on the wine by the glass. Overall very nice place to get a little nosh and watch Boulder go by.

Spruce Fish and Farm is one of my favorite restaurants because the food is of high quality, the portion size is appropriate, there are coffee drinks, and the ambiance is wonderful. Service is friendly and when you ask for a table in a quiet area, you get one!

we are first timers to Farm to Fish. Friday night before a Buff game and the place was packed but everyone was super friendly. We hung out at the cool bar set up and were seated right on time for our reservation. Food was great especially the trout...to die for. Would highly recommend.

My husband and I have made it a Sunday breakfast ritual to go to Spruce Farm and Fish. The food is exceptional and consistent with high quality ingredients. It's a treat for us after a typically long work week. Lately we have both ordered the Verlasso Salmon Hash (a sustainably ocean farmed salmon). It is incredibly good. Happy Hour is great with nice food options and bartenders making classic and craft cocktails with great skill. And all in the beautiful historic Boulderado Hotel.

We have had nice meals here so not sure what the deal was. Oysters were shucked poorly with broken shell in all. Crab cakes were served on a bed of wilted spinach with no sauce, and the "special"opah had to be sent back. Too many great options in Boulder for us to return any time soon. Also, service was poor and manager would not come talk to us...

The food was great, but the service rather abysmal. This is a hotel restaurant, a place for our-of-towners who need something convenient for family and friends. It’s not a destination restaurant, and definitely not a place to celebrate an anniversary. My mistake, but one I won’t ever make again.

We waited to be served. My wife waited twenty minutes to get a drink. Service was very inattentive. I’m not someone who complains a lot, but this experience was ridiculous. We finally asked to switch tables and for a different server. Maybe our server was just having a bad day, but he was absolutely clueless.

The food is good and fairly priced, but don’t expect professional service.

Better than its "name" well-reviewed neighbors. A good and varied menu, excellent preparation, nicely sized portions and good service for our party of five.

Compared to a nearby restaurant named after a condiment, the food was better, the service better and the value ---yes, better. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. We will go back.

We had happy hour at the bar with two very good apps, an excellent manhattan and a very good beer and then on to the dining room for our anniversary dinner. Both main courses were excellent. The tuna three ways we had for a starter was just okay and was the only item of food or drink that we found less than very good to excellent. Service at both the bar and in the dining room was excellent. Even with so many great choices in Boulder, we both reflected afterwards that we were quite happy with our choice.

Our food, service and overall experience were very good. Our server was attentive but not intrusive, and each course came out in a timely manner. We enjoyed the ambience as well as the wonderful menu choices. Everyone was pleased with their meal, including our vegan colleague. Thanks to Spruce for a great evening.

The food was good but the service was an absolute joke. It took over 30 minutes for the server to come over initially and then another 30 minutes to get our appetizers and first drinks. I will not ever recommend and I'll never go back.

Kitchen must have been overwhelmed because service was not good although the staff was apologetic. My entree was not good--a very overly sweet almost sugary bolognese sauce-- but the rest of my party enjoyed their meals and I usually like the food too so chalking it up to an off night.

Was seated and 7:00 Pm and wasn't checked on by waiters who were WALKING AROUND OUR TABLE for 20 minutes. Got up and left to go to a different restaurant where we actually received service. Incredibly disappointed. Wouldn't recommend to any friends or family.

My most recent visit to Spruce with my mom and friends was a bit underwhelming, but still tasty and fun. Our server was kind of annoying (maybe I'm just being mean haha but he annoyed me!), but the food was great and came out with good timing. I recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts!!! MMMM! Not many vegetarian options at all (didn't realize that until I had a vegetarian at the table...). The server actually brought up another dish that wasn't on the menu that he got at a vegetarian place and started describing it... ummm we can't get it so why would you do that?! Very strange. Anyway, overall I recommend Spruce because it is delicious and the drinks are good, too. I just don't recommend inviting your vegetarian friends....

Oysters were good, but at $3.75 to $4.25 each. Gluten-free accommodations are a bit questionable. They list the steak and frites as gluten-free, but put gluten items in the same French fry fryer. My wife, who is gluten-free had a filet, which was excellent. Wine was good and reasonably priced. I had crab cakes and spinach salad. Both were uninspired at best. The crab cakes looked and tasted like something you could buy in the Trader Joe's frozen section. The spinach salad with warm bacon dressing was lacking in flavor and unappealing such that I couldn't finish it. Ceviche was also just ok. For a place that has Fish in it's name, the salmon wasn't advertised as wild. The seafood dishes, which we were both hoping to order, weren't overly enticing. Service was adequate, not outstanding, but nothing to complain about. A few of the young male waiters were more occupied by the nearby table of four good-looking young women. There's a reason why you can easily get a reservation here. I'd rather have eaten at the Corner Bar in the same hotel for less than half the price. We dine out in Boulder at least 2x/ week. Probably not here again for a while. Total tab $145 with tip for 4 oysters, one ceviche, one bottle of wine, one filet, crab cakes appetizer and spinach salad.
