This was a pleasant and relaxing dinner experience. The food was great and the service attentive. Though it was busy, it didn't feel congested.

I had high hopes for this restaurant since the reviews were good, but I was left disappointed. I had the trout - which was fresh but bland. The asparagus were barely - if at all cooked. Now I’m not a fan of over cooked veggies- but they need to be more than raw. My husband had the prime rib which he said was tough and rather bland.
The service was attentive, and the place is cute but food needs work.

Food choices were good for a disparate group. The waitress was excellent and made some very helpful suggestions.

I like the dining room at Spruce and its location in the historic Boulderado hotel. We had a nice time, but one of our threesome didn't get their food because either the server or the system didn't put in her order. So two of us were finished eating when her order finally came. The people were very apologetic and took her entree off the bill. Still, it had a big impact on our enjoyment of the meal. Otherwise, the food was good; the place is nice.

This was our first time trying this place for dinner, as their breakfasts have been very good. We began with switching tables since the a/c was blowing on us. Instead of $12-$14 martini which we feel is ridiculous for this restaurant (I mean it's not LA or SF yet), we ordered a call vodka on the rocks that still cost almost $10 (not nice). We opted for the filet mignon which wasn't as pricey as some of the other downtown restaurants. A couple of rolls arrived with unsalted butter, but were not warmed (a nice touch in any restaurant). The steaks had to be returned since they were prepared way too rare. In addition, the filet was not a melt in your mouth, totally tender experience, which most filets should be. This obviously is very disappointing. If you can't get it right, don't offer it. The service was very good and the waiter was friendly and responsive.
So, while the ambience is very good, when spending $100, dinner should be great. It wasn't...we won't be back.

I will be coming back to try every one of these amazing farm to table dishes. Wonderful wonderful wonderful restaurant.

COFFEE WAS BAD! FOR BREAKFAST I REALLY LIKE A GOOD CUP OF COFFEE. IT WAS VERY BITTER WHICH RUINED MY BREAKFAST EXPERIENCE.

We and friends got together for dinner here and found it comfortable with nice decor, and quiet enough that we were able to hear one another without shouting. The service was pleasant, and helpful when we had questions about the menu. However, though the food was fine there was nothing special about it. The Brussels sprouts were the best thing on the menu in my opinion. The battered calamari were boring, as were the deviled eggs, fries, and mussels appetizers. I had trout for my entree, which was nicely cooked, but slathered in butter, turning a healthy meal into a decadent one. The chocolate cake and key lime pie were standard fare. I would choose other Boulder restaurants over this one next time.

I've rarely said a dining experience was perfect, with the exception of a restaurant in the Cayman Islands; in Boulder, never. This was perfect. It's just rock solid, classy service, sophisticated, and very professional. We couldn't have been happier.

I last ate here when it was called Q's, or something. I was reluctant to return, but damn, why didn't I give it a chance sooner? Kudos to the person who turned this restaurant around. I now have a new favorite place in Boulder; a very small list of about 5 restaurants. I loved that it wasn't trying to be pretentious, or cool.

Here, everything was on point. Most of the time I have no clue if my reservation will be met, or the table ready to go. My reservation was secure, the table preference exceeded expectations, and the service beyond extraordinary. The food was absolutely delicious.

I loved that the menu wasn't overly complicated, offering a range of choices that didn't veer off into the esoteric. Loads of restaurants try way too hard to create strange new choices. Call me old fashioned, but I'm delighted if someone make great food excellent without overcomplicating it. They did it. This was elegant, graceful, and wonderful all around. I'll be back; my wife and I are planning a date night knowing that we can relax here.

P.S. One thing that I've complained about in Boulder is the use of cell phones in restaurants. We were seated in a private booth and I did not see, hear, or experience the annoyance of someone on their phone, or being pinged continuously with texts. One of the reasons we no longer go out to eat is because people are sharing/watching videos, talking on their phones, failing to mute the sound for text or vibrate, which is very distracting and makes me feel like I'm in an office. I want to relax when eating, thank you for providing the space to do so. More restaurants need statements on the menu asking folks to silence their phones, or to put them on airplane mode/restaurant mode.

I had made a reservation on Open Table after seeing the menu that was listed for restaurant week. Unfortunately, the day I made the reservation was the Sunday following restaurant week, so we were not able to capitalize on that particular menu. My husband ordered the prime rib, which was delicious! Super tender and tasted as though they hit the roast with a little smoke of sorts- it is not over powering, but super tasty! I had the crab cakes, which were average, the sauce provided accentuated the cakes nicely (I am biased after having Baltimore Crab Cakes.....No one else can compare!). We also had the truffle fries (lightly seasoned) and brussel sprouts. We liked all of our choices! It is a bit pricey, but the food backs up the prices for the most part (brussel sprouts are neither expensive, nor tricky to work with, so some places charge more than they should- but it matches the menu)

The food is almost always excellent, but my main criticism would be that the food is not hot enough. This happened last Sunday with my omelette and has happened several times with my poached eggs in the eggs benedict, and to those of my friends. This is always disappointing because the food is so good and yet when it is not hot the whole experience becomes less exceptional.
It would be nice if you had soya milk, or even better coconut milk, as an option for hot drinks.
I will still enjoy coming on my own or with friends and would love it even more if you could fix the food heat issue!

Food was just OK, had the prime rib and opted for the bigger cut, half of it was a piece of fat, you can’t eat. Brussels sprouts delicious, drinks were good. Expecting higher quality for $150 dinner. Service was excellent though.

Food and service both excellent. Good menu and well-chosen wine list. Very nice venue inside historic hotel. Great Boulder location. Look forward to return visit.

Third time there. Enjoyed each visit. This time, tried the crab cake appetizer. Absolutely delicious!

This was our first somewhat disappointing brunch at Spruce. Service was spotty. Our server was very friendly and courteous but service was a little erratic. We both ordered cups of chowder to start, followed by eggs Benedict. We requested the chowder to be served first and both asked for soft yolk eggs. Our server forgot our drinks and finally another server stopped and asked what we were waiting for and as we could see our drinks sitting at the bar, she retrieved them for us. Our chowder arrived only to be followed almost immediately by our eggs which were lukewarm and in one case over cooked. Nor our best experience at Spruce. As we have had more successful meals we will return and hope for a better outcome.

We stumbled upon this spot using OpenTable. Our original destination had a long wait and this was Plan B. What a nice surprise! We had mussels for appetizer then entrees pork shank and lamb collar ragout. All excellent. The service was great too!

I have been there twice now and both times were great and it wasn't very crowded

The trout was outstanding and I also loved the sweet potato mash. The quality of the food and the atmosphere were well worth the price of dinner.

Great food and service.. multiple round of drinks, appetizers, and entrees for 2 was less than $100 out the door. Good place for a high end evening for less than high end price

We got great service. The waitress was very friendly. My wife and I ordered cocktails that were delicious. I got the rib eye and asked to switch the potatoes for rice and they were very accommodating. My wife got the tuna. Both were cooked correctly and the sauce on the cabbage that comes with the tuna was incredible.

Overall, we were very happy and would recommend.

The fish unfortunately tasted nothing close to fresh. The meals were both relatively bland. The flavors that did come through were less than appetizing. Both meals were particularly underwhelming for the price point and, sadly, this meal did not leave us wanting to come back. At least the wine was good.

The fish was not of high quality and tasted extremely fishy. There was no seasoning and was overall bland. The fries were good but the Fish n Chips would never be ordered again if I had to return.

The wait staff is very pleasant. Food was really good and tasty. Your treated very well there.

I love taking friends and newcomers to the Boulderado (and to the restaurants) because the hotel itself is such a treat for the eyes. People have ideas about what Boulder is like, but the history and traditions of the town are just embedded in the Boulderado and its antiques. I love that the porch at Spruce and Fish is so cozy, and of course, the food is delicious. It's a great value for the quality, and the service also is impeccable.

The location of Spruce Farm and Fish is a classic in Boulder - in the Hotel Boulderado. I've been going there since the late 1970s, through various iterations. The current version is the best so far. The food and service has improved to the point where this eating there is a real treat. And, if you have visitors from out of town staying at the Boulderado, it's convenient in the extreme. Strongly recommended.

Every time I have gone there the food has been very consistent with a good value. The wait staff has always been friendly and the atmosphere is nice for an old western hotel.

Great to visit a restaurant that scores high on all categories, especially being able to carry on a nice quiet conversation.

My favorite bar in Boulder. Elegant, yet relaxed.

This has become one of my favorite not-quite-so-discovered restaurants in the Pearl Street Mall vicinity. I can almost always get a reservation and have ALWAYS enjoyed my meal.

The food was amazing as always. It is always clean and great food!
The service was horrible, our waitress never came over to say hello. We had to ask for water and coffee, she wasn’t attentive, we had to ask for cream many times. She didn’t seem like she was aware of what was going on.
I was embarrassed I recommmended the restaurant . I work around the corner. I go to the corner bar at least once a month. I will stay them. Always great all around service.

I ordered salmon, and was not asked how I like it cooked - it came to me overcooked. The seared greens were too salty, but the mashed potatoes were divine. So, all in all, I think the food is overpriced. I made the reservation with a birthday celebration noted, and the waitress didn't know about the birthday, so we asked if we could have a birthday dessert included, which she was happy to do. She should have known about the birthday. ....
I have lived in Boulder for 25 years, and have had many meals both in the main dining room and Corner Bar. This was the first time at The Spruce Farm and Fish. I was not impressed, and will probably not return.

Eaten there twice in the last couple of weeks and was so glad to see that the Boulderado has a reliable, comfortable restaurant to go to with nice food and good service. It's really a special setting, particularly during the holidays.

We went for New Year's Eve. We arrived about 20 minutes early, but the staff seated us right away. A terrific staff! I ordered the smoked prime rib, which was delicious. My husband ordered the rib steak, which had good flavor but was very sinewy. A man at a table next to us also ordered the rib steak, and I noticed he was chewing hard, and took half of his steak home. So the rib steak needs to be improved.
A lovely atmosphere and a nice place to dine.

Good food. In particular, the Clam Chowder is the best in town (as it was back in the 1970s)!

We had Christmas day brunch at Spruce Farm and Fish. Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly and did not seem to mind being there on Christmas! We had brunch dishes, steak and eggs and smoked salmon hash, which were fantastic. The ambience was busy but still upscale. We also got to explore the beautiful Victorian hotel that the restaurant is attached to. Highly recommend this place!
