Spruce Farm & Fish Ratings and Reviews
We got great service. The waitress was very friendly. My wife and I ordered cocktails that were delicious. I got the rib eye and asked to switch the potatoes for rice and they were very accommodating. My wife got the tuna. Both were cooked correctly and the sauce on the cabbage that comes with the tuna was incredible.
Overall, we were very happy and would recommend.
The fish unfortunately tasted nothing close to fresh. The meals were both relatively bland. The flavors that did come through were less than appetizing. Both meals were particularly underwhelming for the price point and, sadly, this meal did not leave us wanting to come back. At least the wine was good.
I love taking friends and newcomers to the Boulderado (and to the restaurants) because the hotel itself is such a treat for the eyes. People have ideas about what Boulder is like, but the history and traditions of the town are just embedded in the Boulderado and its antiques. I love that the porch at Spruce and Fish is so cozy, and of course, the food is delicious. It's a great value for the quality, and the service also is impeccable.
The location of Spruce Farm and Fish is a classic in Boulder - in the Hotel Boulderado. I've been going there since the late 1970s, through various iterations. The current version is the best so far. The food and service has improved to the point where this eating there is a real treat. And, if you have visitors from out of town staying at the Boulderado, it's convenient in the extreme. Strongly recommended.
The food was amazing as always. It is always clean and great food!
The service was horrible, our waitress never came over to say hello. We had to ask for water and coffee, she wasn’t attentive, we had to ask for cream many times. She didn’t seem like she was aware of what was going on.
I was embarrassed I recommmended the restaurant . I work around the corner. I go to the corner bar at least once a month. I will stay them. Always great all around service.
I ordered salmon, and was not asked how I like it cooked - it came to me overcooked. The seared greens were too salty, but the mashed potatoes were divine. So, all in all, I think the food is overpriced. I made the reservation with a birthday celebration noted, and the waitress didn't know about the birthday, so we asked if we could have a birthday dessert included, which she was happy to do. She should have known about the birthday. ....
I have lived in Boulder for 25 years, and have had many meals both in the main dining room and Corner Bar. This was the first time at The Spruce Farm and Fish. I was not impressed, and will probably not return.
We went for New Year's Eve. We arrived about 20 minutes early, but the staff seated us right away. A terrific staff! I ordered the smoked prime rib, which was delicious. My husband ordered the rib steak, which had good flavor but was very sinewy. A man at a table next to us also ordered the rib steak, and I noticed he was chewing hard, and took half of his steak home. So the rib steak needs to be improved.
A lovely atmosphere and a nice place to dine.
We had Christmas day brunch at Spruce Farm and Fish. Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly and did not seem to mind being there on Christmas! We had brunch dishes, steak and eggs and smoked salmon hash, which were fantastic. The ambience was busy but still upscale. We also got to explore the beautiful Victorian hotel that the restaurant is attached to. Highly recommend this place!
We took the reservations that were available for Christmas Eve. When the restaurant called to confirm the reservation, I specifically asked if they would be serving the Christmas Eve dinner at our reservation time and was told that they would. When we got to the restaurant, they only were serving the mid-afternoon happy hour menu and we were told that the holiday meal would not be available until after 5:00 PM. This was very disappointing.
The food we had was very good, well prepared and the service was excellent. We enjoyed our meal but would have preferred to have had access to the entire dinner menu including the holiday selections.
Love taking guest to view the Boulderado. My wife and I had a number of family in town for Christmas and we went to Spruce for a dinner. Decent service but overall lack luster meals. My wife and brother had duck which was over the top salty. Sister in law and brother in law had trout and they were both rather dry. I had the pork and that was tasty along with some tasty apps. My wife and I had dinner at Spruce a couple of weeks ago and both our meals were just OK. We thought we’d give it another try with the family ... very marginal. After both of those experiences, I don’t think I would recommend Spruce to anyone.
Located in the Historic Hotel Boulderado, just off the Pearl St. Mall. A very good restaurant with a nicely varied menu. Service is always very good. They pour a fair drink. What's not to like? Three recent visits, and the experience has been consistently good. Valet parking weekdays only.
New management has done a fantastic job. Previous management was a lot more difficult, and we always had an issue, not to mention the food suffered (I think the hotel was managing at that point). I had some of the nastiest eggs of my life a year ago and didn't come back here until just recently. Whoever's in charge of the kitchen is doing a great job! The menu has great selection and the food is excellent. Staff was able to accommodate a special request regarding my 89 and 87 yr old grandparents beautifully and with no difficulty. This place is definitely back on my list.
They did not appear to be overly busy, only about half to 3/4th full, but the service was quite slow, especially our drinks throughout dinner. Food quality was ok, but nothing special. If anything the sides were the highlight of the dish and the steak was secondary. The bar area looked fun, so probably a good spot to sit at the bar and have a few drinks and apps. But I would not go back for dinner or recommend. There are plenty better fish or steak places in Boulder.
Holiday atmosphere was great. We have been here before and really enjoyed it, but so much depends on service. It can make a meal a very pleasant or outstanding experience or less than that. The service was below average on this visit. Seemed like the waiter seemed to be a novice and wasn't all that accommodating, seemed in a rush, didn't give our table a lot of attention during the meal.
Table wobbled, candle was out then burnt out after lit. No offer of more bread after two rolls. Overall, very average experience and below the standards we expect at Spruce.
The atmosphere at Spruce is lovely and quiet with a wide variety of seating options. The bar scene and the hotel lobby was vibrant but the sound did not spread into the dining area. Our booth was just perfect. The meal was very good although the scallops seemed a bit pricey compared to other places. The drinks were also expensive, especially the $14 cappuccino with Kahlua. Other dishes were moderately priced so I give it four stars overall. Excellent date night place. I was happy to see that the lobby, bar and restaurant were all busy.
