Spring House Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We were immediately greeted by host, who led to us to our table. Our server was pleasant, and promptly took our empty plates, and refilled our drinks (we were there for Sunday brunch). The food was very good, especially the made-to-order omelettes, which were nice and fluffy. We will be returning.
The staff is always very friendly and competent and makes you feel as if you are part of the family, even and most notably when they are quite busy and could easily blow you off. This "patron first" philosophy trickles down from the top and was once the responsibility of Jim Burns to set the bar high. Before Jim it was his father, and it is now carried on lovingly and with their added flair by Jim's daughters. This restaurant is the epitome of a family's commitment to quality. The bar and high top area has a totally different feel from the outdoor area, and from the main dining areas depending on what one is the mood to experience. Excellent crab cakes. Excellent snapper soup. Even the burgers fulfill. The specials are always worthy of a try.
I was at the Tavern twice in a week and both times, it was outstanding! I was with a group of 12 for lunch and the service was excellent. We all enjoyed our lunch selections, were able to have separate checks and hold a short meeting!
At dinner a few nights later, we (2 couples) had excellent entrees: scallops, crab cakes and liver!! all delicious! Our friends were excited that they could have the liver special since it's not always on menus and thought it was very very good!
We have been coming to Springfield Tavern for many years and have always enjoyed it.
Noticed that portions have gotten smaller but we still love the food.
If we don't care for the vegetable that evening we like to order Apple Sauce. Have been told it
is a popular request if the guest does not care for the vegetable that evening. Not too crazy about cole slaw and beets. Apple sauce is a good substitute. WISH SPRINGHOUSE WOULD
PUT IT BACK ON THE MENU. Don't know why it was removed.
Celebrated my wife's birthday and our 49th wedding anniversary. (Yes we got married on her birthday) I must say we both enjoyed our meals. She had the surf and turf I had the prime rib. Everything was served hot and you could tell it was fresh. Our waitress was the best. Friendly and punctual pure professional. Overall this was the perfect meal for this special occasion.
We came for my wife's birthday. Seating was immediate at a very nice table. Server came soon to take drink order and make recommendations. Drinks and bread brought timely . Time given to review the menu and enjoy our drinks. Dinner order taken and delivered in a good amount of time. We didn't feel rushed or waiting too long for dinner. Food was excellent and service was wonderful!!!! We will go back again soon!
First visit to the restaurant, and with my wife and friends. Food was tasty, but the prime rib was a little fatty. Drink pours were generous, and prices are very reasonable. Décor is a bit dated, but the place was busy, so others must not notice. Definitely worthy of a return trip.
Took a friend and his mom for a birthday brunch. Decent variety (steam table scrambled eggs were quite good if you don't choose to take advantage of the omelette station). Odd there were no bagels with the whitefish and salmon, all of which was tucked away next to the desserts--easy to miss. Desserts the day we went were heavy on macaroons (the coconut kind), the rest seemed commercial and not all that special. Setting is interesting. Service was genial. It's nicely priced. We would go again.
This is the second time my Husband and I have been here and we got the same meals we did the first time because they were so good. And they did not disappoint the second time. Broiled seafood combination was excellent and there are not many restaurants that have it on the menu. Shrimp, scallops, crab cake and lobster tail all delicious! It's not cheap but worth every penny.
Usually have a nice lunch here.
However, this time my meal was sub-par! (my friends enjoyed their Crab cake sandwich).
I ordered the Niçoise salad - supposed to be medium rare tuna atop spinach, hard-cooked egg, etc.
The tuna looked like a pate- pre-cooked, chilled, then sliced...
Eatable- but not good at all.
Lovely historic setting, very good food with many vegetarian selections. Had to wait several minutes at the reception desk; only one waitress said that someone would soon be with us altho many wait staff walked by. When the hostess did arrive, she was not particularly welcoming; however, the person who seated us (same wait person who had initially greeted us) made us feel welcome and comfortable -- congrats to her. Good wine selection. We'll go back.
