Spring House Restaurant, Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant; however, the steak had bits of burnt meat stuck to the steak from a dirty grill. I asked for a box and brought it home for my dog to eat. I ended up only eating the sides which were very good. We also got desserts and they were quite delicious. Don't believe that I will be coming back to dine.
We had read wonderful reviews online for the Spring House and immediately made reservations with high anticipation of our evening. Sadly, we were greatly disappointed!
- Service was very poor: 20 minutes to receive cocktails, waitress jumped right into entrees without asking if we wanted appetizers, little attention, poor follow-up, ordered a beer and it took 25 minutes to be served as the waitress forgot. Entrees took over an hour to arrive and items we ordered we never served but we listed on the bill.
- Food Quality was lacking: one in our party ordered the signature filet cooked medium. He originally asked for medium-well and with persuasion by our waitress assuring him that the chef would achieve a nice pink through the center at a medium temp, he changed his mind and went with her suggestion. As he was eating he cut into the filet and found that it was VERY rare. Most of the steak was red with a very dark red section where the temperature was very undercooked from what he requested. The salmon would have been a nice dish, however is was extremely over salted … and I LOVE salt! The fired cauliflower and broccoli was one of our appetizers, it had no seasoning to it. It was very bland and ended up just being crunchy vegetables. Very disappointed in this dish, especially after I received an over seasoned salmon dish.
- Extremely loud atmosphere: There was a private party next door that made it almost impossible to hear others at our table. It made for an extremely unpleasant dining experience.
Outstanding meal! Especially enjoyed the shrimp and crab beignets. Leslie was a great server and the hostess was nice enough to go get a pillow from the bar for me when she heard my husband mention I am still recovering from back surgery. Will be back and will bring friends!
My wife and I have now been to the Spring House twice in the last two weeks. We met the Chef Tim Grandinetti both times. He was incredibly gracious and a real pleasure to speak with. We are new to the area and had been use to eating out in downtown Charlotte at some very nice restaurants. To our suprise, our experience both times was better than our best in Charlotte. Staff was fantastic, service was superb and the food was absolutely amazing. We plan to make this a regular stop for our date night dining.
Great birthday celebration! Reservations were super early in the evening (4:30p) so I wasn't sure what to expect as far as prompt service and wait time for our meal. Experienced absolutely no difference in dining this time as I've experienced in previous visits at a more "normal" (7p) dinner hour - food was wonderful, service was prompt and professional, received a warm welcome and enjoyed a delightful birthday dinner next to the fireplace! Can't wait to return!
As always, Spring House delivers an exceptional all-around dinner. From a friendly greeting, to a timely seating, to a professional thorough menu introduction, everything was on a course to perfect...
Then the group at the table next to us included two men dressed like thugs. Wearing T-shirts and backwards caps, they completely destroyed the atmosphere of what should be a fine dining experience.
Once I got over that, our meal was delicious as usual.
The only thing that could be improved is some control of the dress code, if that is possible.
My soup was so thick, it resembled mashed sweet potatoes in lieu of soup. Taste was satisfactory but thickness was strange and not hot enough. Our portions were comically huge - my cabbage with fig side had to be at least 3 cups. Don't get me wrong - nice not to be stingy but the over-sized side was overwhelming - especially such a strong-tasting side. The macaroni and cheese side was not hot and was OK-tasting. We expected more from the reputation of the restaurant.
I was in Winston-Salem for a conference and found the Spring House online. It had great reviews and now I can see why. The ambiance and overall experience was wonderful. The decor reminded me of being in a fine home in the islands.
The mahi-mahi was terrific as were the seafood beignet appetizers. I would highly recommend.
We had reservations through open table of course so we were greeted by our name when we entered the restaurant. We ordered the bread sample and the pimento cheese. So good! Then came the best thing of the whole meal... fried green tomatoes with pulled pork barbecue. There were three and each of us had one. Amazing. I’m still dreaming of them. We also had the butternut squash and onion soup- very good. The scallops and pork belly was tasty and the scallops and ravioli shrimp and grits was also great. The steak salad was cooked medium rare and was enough for sharing. Great meal. Highly recommend.
As I have already mentioned on Facebook, everything (I use that word carefully) was perfect (that one, too), from the food to the service to the ambiance. Wife wanted a glass of Moscato, but they were out...but the staff went out of their way to accommodate--which they did. Wow. Perfect server, as well. Recommend this place very highly!
Excellent food. We were placed in a small room with 2 small tables and one large occupied table. That did affect our enjoyment because the group at the large table was ridiculously loud. The food was good, and service very attentive. I'd go back but would ask to sit in a different area.
Everything about Spring House was perfect. The service was great. Not to hovering but our waitress managed to appear just at the right time. She made some excellent recommendations. I have never had as delicisous lamb loin as I had at Spring House. The taste and texture was magnificent. We live over 200 miles away from Spring House but would not hesitate to drive there again just for dinner. You must try it.
Very disappointed in the food the last couple of times I've been. It is bland tasting. The food was what brought us to this place in the beginning. Not sure what has happened. Top shelf mixed drinks now are over priced as well. Compared to other nearby restaurants.
Spring House is in a beautiful setting...a house with many rooms and outdoor seating as well.
We arrived for our reservation a little late and the hostess was very accommodating. The menu had changed over to the Fall Menu a few days before, which typically would not have concerned me at a fine restaurant, however, the servers knew very little about each dish and had to run to the kitchen to ask the chef about each dish that we inquired about.. In addition, both appetizers and entrees were virtually inedible. The trio of shrimp appetizer came on a mushy, fried ,and tasteless "crabcake" with three bare shrimp on top. The signature bengets were greasy and heavy. The mahi and risotto dish was fried, greasy and inedible and my papardella pasta dish tasted like buttered egg noodles. We obviously didn't bother staying for dessert! I would not recommend trying this restaurant soon after a menu change. They certainly have a lot of kinks to work out!
We have eaten here before and loved our previous experiences. This time however was not as great. Our service was extremely slow and the server didn't seem very knowledgeable about the food or wine menus. This was the first night to roll out their new menu so some allowances should be given for that. The appetizers and salads were great as was my cocktail. Both main courses just didn't hit for us. And the cheesecake was fabulous. I will not let this experience keep us from going back!
