This place was awesome! Little loud with the tasting going on behind where we sat but we didnt mind, really enjoyed looking smelling all of their courses. Our dinner was amazing! We will 100% be back.
Food was very good as usual. Loved getting to try the new summer menu
Noise level was unusually loud but the porch where we were seated was full
Service was mediocre, not up to what we usually experience
Gareth and I appreciated the complimentary champagne and desserts! We look forward to having our wedding here in December!
XOXO Jade & Gareth
This was a get together with friends. We are from out of town, and wanted to host them. What a wonderful experience at the Spring House! The lovely staff helped us make the evening special-like we were in our own home (but better!). They worked with us to have a couple of bottles of wine and a selection of breads with delicious honey butter ready and waiting when we all got to our table. Cameron, our waiter, was fabulous. He was attentive but not overbearing; allowing us all to chat up a storm while having some wine and bread, before ordering our meal.
The restaurant had just come out with their newest menu that day, and we had some fabulous entrees! We highly recommend the salmon, chicken and shrimp, filet, and the trout. All entrees were cooked to perfection.
We were too stuffed to try any of the desserts, but they all look wonderful. Will have to come back for those!
We are in WS quite often, so plan to make another trip here very soon!
We have always enjoyed Spring House when we've dined there and have no complaints. Even though there was a table for ten in our room and the noise level made it impossible to converse and that I have promised myself I will always call ahead to ask if they could seat us anywhere except wherever they have a group, I never do. I was, however, impressed that our server was astute enough to notice our discomfort with the noise (although we didn't say anything) and made sure that we were served a pro bono dessert. Tables for groups at upscale restaurants is not a phenomenon unknown in the Winston-Salem restaurant scene and it is unfortunate because some of the noise level is encouraged so that the restaurant seems, as you put it, "energetic." Frankly, I don't need that much energy. I like to be able to talk to my dining companions.
Planning our wedding reception followed by another unparalleled dining experience. Can’t say enough positive things about this restaurant and the people there who infuse so much richness into their food, drinks and life!
The Spring House location was in a very beautiful restored home with gorgeous landscaping and outdoor space. The inside is also amazing. Our server was very helpful and was attentive to our every need. The food tasted great. My husband had the mahi mahi . He said that it was delicious. I had the roast beef sandwich with au jus and kettle chips. We enjoyed visiting The Spring House for his Father's Day dinner.
Everything was wonderful, but I do wish they had some lower priced red wines. I would go more often if they did.
I was excited to try this place- it had great reviews and looked beautifully inviting. Our meal started off great with the bread sampler- all delicious. When our meals were brought my mouth really started watering- everything looked fantastic. Looks are deceiving. Out of five people at our table no one enjoyed their meal- we had prime rib dip, OBLT salad, chicken and waffles, asparagus soup, ribeye, and pork belly w/ scallops. My scallops were sandy! After that grit my appetite was ruined. No one that I ate with would go back.
Great service and ambience for our anniversary! Apps to dessert were excellent!
This was our first experience, and we had read reviews that the chairs were uncomfortable, and we should have listened! However, the food was great for the most part. We thoroughly enjoyed our duck appetizer (unique and very flavorful), and the oyster BLT salad was fabulous, with perfectly fried, juicy oysters. My husband was very happy with his pork chop dinner, but my mahi-mahi was disappointing -- very chewy and dry -- definitely overcooked. Given how wonderfully cooked everything else was, I chalked that up to an anomaly. However, the chairs were so uncomfortable that it ruined the meal. You have to either sit straight up on a tufted cushion with no back support, or lean back in the seat so far that it feels like you are taking of in an airplane and can't reach the food. We were stiff walking out of there and our backs still hurt the next day. Because of this, we won't be returning, but if we find they ever have new seating, we would definitely reconsider!
How unfortunate that you did not take the opportunity to share your thoughts with us while dining here at Spring House. As always, it is incredibly helpful if guests share their feedback while they are here dining with us rather than comment afterward when it is far to late for us to assist you. We are pleased to offer six distinct dining rooms in our historic home....many with their own chair style!! We look forward to finding you just the right chair on your next visit to Spring House.
Wonderful as always. You just cannot beat the $20.12 Wednesday 3-course feature anywhere in town. The best food at a great value!
No better service anywhere and the ambiance is outstanding. As a cook, and former professional chef, I find the current 'decorator' food/splashes of this or that sauce, with way too much 'southern fusion'..pimento cheese on/in everything, overdone.
I expect more from a quality restaurant, with the ability to charge whatever the market will bear. Sampled two desserts; one lemony w/whipped cream, and one chocolate lava...both 'way too much white sugar'...healthier sugar, less of it, will vastly improve desserts.
Great and affordably priced Savignon Blanc from South Africa.
We haven’t been to Spring House in a couple of years. We absolutely love the ambiance but were underwhelmed by the food. We ordered fried oysters as appetizer and enjoyed the dish. I ordered the lamb and my wife ordered the filet. Both dishes came out lukewarm and did not meet our expectations. Hoping it was an off night. We love the atmosphere but left wanting more from our entree.
incredible food and service
Beautiful historic home with delicious food and friendly staff. We even bought 2 cookbooks to take home. Chef Tim and his staff created the perfect dining experience!
Delicious good with lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Thank you!
We had dinner there for a birthday. We were so happy and very full. The menu was great and service was outstanding. We’ll be back for our next celebration.
The Spring House was a nice restaurant overall. Nice atmosphere and pretty good service. The food was just ok. My fish seemed over cooked and dried out.
The bread basket was very good. I think I would try it again.
We choose Spring House for our Anniversary dinner out. W
Food, service & ambiance for our dinner on 5/11 were all excellent.
The Spring House always has excellent food and service!
Went for my wife’s birthday and the overall experience at Spring House ruined the night. Service was slow and rarely came to check in on us. After waiting on steaks for over an hour we informed staff we just wanted to leave. The manager never came to apologize. I will say that our previous experience was positive, but this time was truly awful.
We felt like the price for quality of food was poor. Nice atmosphere and mediocre service. Won’t go again for the price point.
good eclectic selection of apps and entrees. Good service
We were hoping for a intimate and quiet birthday celebration. Did not realize it was prom night. The kids were fine but the parent entourage was quite disruptive. We will continue to patronize Spring House. Wonderful staff and superior food.
A lovely meal. Dinner was delicious, atmosphere was pleasant and staff was friendly. Entrees were different than lots of other places in Winston. Great for celebrating a special occasion or hosting parents/guests.
We love this restaurant and have been coming here for years. Unfortunately this trip our service was very slow and unattentive and our food came out wrong. When sent back to get fixed, it still came back wrong.
We will be back but it was unfortunate as this level of service has not been what we have grown accustom to
We love the Spring House. After enjoying two exceptional wine dinners at the Spring House, we knew we wanted to celebrate our son's UNCSA college graduation with a special dinner on the night before. The food was wonderful, delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was warm, helpful, fun and excellent at her job. We loved out table and the smaller room we were in that was filled with golden light from the setting sun. A very, very nice celebration! Topped of with a surprise extra dessert for our graduate.
The food was a little bit disappointing. It was good, but our last visit was awesome. We will definitely go back.
I indicated we were celebrating a special event when I made our reservation through Open Table. The hostess wished us a happy anniversary when we arrived and our server greeted us with glasses of champagne compliments of the Chef. Our evening was proving to be as celebratory and romantic as I had hoped. The entree presentation was beautiful. The steak was a true medium rare as prefered, and my fried oysters were the best I’ve had anywhere. Our server Kiley was a delight. After dinner we enjoyed drinks in comfortable side chairs by the fireplace savoring our entire experience. We will return, perhaps we’ll make Spring House our anniversary tradition.
The NY Strip was amazing! Loved our server and the customer service we received. The ambiance was perfect for celebrating our wedding anniversary and can't wait to come back!
Wonderful dining experience!
Multiple..BD, New Job, Divorce!
Favorite place in Winston!
My husbands steak was not up to our expectation. He said that it was tough. The broccoli was also fibrous and not tender
Great overall experience!
Sat in the open room on the other side of the bar. There was a large party in there which made it extremely loud and difficult to hear the person right next to me. It was a nice night outside , so opening some windows or door would have helped filter the sounds. The Mahi Mahi was over cooked, but had good flavor. Behind us was a group of people with a DOG. I am a dog lover, but I'm sorry unless its a service dog, it doesn't need to be in the restaurant. I really enjoyed the Spring House the last time I was there, but I was very very disappointed this time.
The ambiance, hostess and wait staff were the only positive take aways from our experience. We started with the asparagus soup, which was tasteless and had hard shreds of stalk throughout the whole soup that made it inedible. For the entrees we had the salmon, beet salad, and chicken & waffles. The salmon was dry and salty and the rice that came with it was mushy and tasteless. The beets on the beet salad were not even close to fresh. They were something I would expect at a food court. The chicken on the chicken & waffles was mediocre and the the dish became mushy very quickly from the oily meat on the bottom. Overall I would never eat here again or recommend it to anyone.
