It was our 16th wedding anniversary. The occasion didn’t start off very good due to us having to wait and be seated 25 minutes after our reservation time. We ate at the Spring House Barn since the main dining room was closed due to it being off season. Host and bar tending staff were great. Atmosphere in the Barn was rustic and open kitchen. Very energetic and the aromas emanating from the kitchen were fantastic. Our main server appeared scattered, was in attentive and left us disappointed.. it being our wedding anniversary.
Linguine with fresh clams was very good; Pizza would have benefited from more mushrooms and cooked a few minutes less. Elderflower cocktail was unusual and tasty!
The view from the porch of the formal dining room is spectacular-overlooks the water from above.
Service was polite but mostly inattentive, though the atmosphere was very nice and food was consistent and tasty. Mixed drinks were well done as well and delicious.
You can't beat the bird's eye view from the porch of Spring House Hotel - wait, yes you can. The food and service was terrific. We enjoyed the linguine with plentiful and outstanding clams and the burger with truffle fries hit the spot after a day of hiking the island. We enjoyed every minute and every bite!
The food was excellent. Our server Alyssa was very attentive. I had a nice birthday surprise with applause included. Will definitely return.
Great spot for dinner after a day of enjoying B.I. -- pre-dinner drinks in Adirondack chairs followed by a scrumptious dinner on the patio
The Spring House is an annual tradition on our vacation. We came over for the day and knew we needed to bring our friends for her birthday celebration.
The restaurant was very busy on a Wednesday night, but we made a reservation and so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was an experienced one and was able to dote on us a good deal. She was personable and knowledgable about the fare. We ordered several dishes - scallops and Chicken. Both were prepared and presented very well and were scrumptious. No doubt we will come back to the Spring House.
Very nice experience.
Service was attentive but not overbearing.
The oysters were exceptional!
For best seating make a reservation
Tiny oysters , overcooked fish. Shockingly bad and expensive. Yuck
We've been many years in a row and had good experiences. This time our server was cold and surly. She actually didn't remove an extra place setting and chair at a round table ( we had to ask a different server). She offered my son NO vegetarian option and told my husband there was no draft beer ( as the table next to us was served draft). The filet mignon was overcooked which could be overlooked if the service was nice. My daughter forgot her sweater. We went back twice the next day asking them to look for it. No luck. What kind of restaurant does that?
Awesome service by Elisa! Great atmosphere! Food was delicious! Always a good time!
Great views , great food
Arrived early for our reservation and was graciously seated at a great table on the porch with amazing views....which are certainly in demand. Food was very good in quality, not outstanding or " blow your socks off", and priced quite high. $25 -$32 for almost all entrees with modest portions. Miss the classic sauces. Prices have risen and quality is about the same in past few years.
Spent Block Island 4th of July here. It was amazing and we live only a ferry boat ride away. Believe me we will visit at least once a year from here on.
Came back to Block Island to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We had our wedding at the Spring House in 2002, and we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate. The food was fresh and delicious, the service was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, and the setting was picture-perfect. Our server, Sierra, was delightful, and even made us a little origami crane as a keepsake that read "Happy 15th Anniversary!" We loved every moment of it and can't wait to come back again.
I love Sprint my House- it's preservation and view are of the highest caliber. The hotel aspect is amazing! Sadly, I cannot say the same for the drink or cuisine quality. The staff are friendly and caring- so come, stay but eat elsewhere.
Excellent service and food. Made us feel like royalty. Highly recommend.
The Spring House occupies one of the most beautiful spots on Block Island. They offer dining in several spaces, both indoors and out. We dined on the outside terrace and it was lovely. The service was excellent, even though there were some large parties nearby. The food was delicious -- wonderfully fresh seafood. Their wine list leans toward the high end, but a nice feature they offer is several half bottles, which we took advantage of. We had a lovely dinner. The only downside was that we returned home to an email "cancelling" our reservation and thereby not crediting my dining points, but I emailed Open Table and it was quickly rectified. We will definitely return on our next trip to Block Island.
Amazing scenery. Food has gone downhill over the years.
Everything, staff great, food hot and delicious, friendly atmosphere. Overall great experience been coming too block island for years. Just a special and spectacular place. Awesome mud slides.
Booked Friday evening dinner to celebrate milestone birthday. First, zero disclosure on OpenTable or Spring House website that The Dining Room is not open; only the bar room. Second, seated on elevated, corner bandstand platform with truly inadequate lighting. Third, had server-in-training with trainer only occasionally shadowing her; trainee clearly not ready for prime time. Fourth, order New England clam chowder and salad to start, and served both simultaneously. Complained that chowder had no clams, and didn't look like New England chowder; served responded it was "Rhode Island chowder," which looks that way. She then returned to let me know I mistakenly was served minestrone. Fifth, calamari entree had no discerning flavor/taste. $150 for two I'll never recover.
We were on Block Island at the end of September after the crowds were gone. We had an amazing meal at the Spring House Hotel. Also had wonderful cocktails and a great pumpkin martini.
Memorable and perfect evening! My Partner, my Brother, his lovely Wife and I enjoyed an anniversary celebration that was so thoughtfully handled by the GM, Justin and his staff (thank you, Carly!) Many thanks to Justin, Carly and everyone who made the evening simply perfect and forever cherished. Hats off to the Chef, too, please! Bravo/a all around! XO, Higgins
The Spring House Restaurant has a different menu than the one on the website. It's limited and doesn't have as big of a selection as the Bistro. I've eaten at their Bistro (front porch and inside bar), it's fantastic! The pizza and clam casino are really great. But back to the Restaurant. It's over-priced and again, the options aren't amazing. I had the ahi tuna. I lived in San Diego and have been to Hawaii where ahi tun is a popular dish. This ahi tun wasn't rare and the slices were so thick. It wasn't very pleasant to eat. My boyfriend had another dish that was very meh. I can't even remember what it was. Long story short, stick to their Bistro, order pizza, fig flatbread and clam casino then thank me later.
My boyfriend and I dined here for our three-year anniversary. We enjoyed an incredible meal and spectacular ocean views, and our server was attentive and helpful. We were even treated to two complimentary glasses of champagne. Would highly recommend, particularly for (romantic) special occasions.
Amazing views, great cocktails and very attentive staff even on a packed night. The food was also great!
Spent the day on Block Island. Enjoyed the hubbub of the port shops. When we decided on lunch we wanted something a little more restful. Tried the Spring House and were pleasantly surprised. Food and service (thanx Chelsea) were excellent. We were never rushed. Food was well prepared and te wait staff was very attentive. The view from the porch was superb. Not overly expensive, but far enough out of the harbor to be a bit quieter. It's about a 15 minute walk to this old Victorian Hotel of the classic Block Island style.
Food was great! Service was okay but not very friendly. The view from the back porch was beautiful.
Made a reservation for lunch for our party of four. We were welcomed and seated within 10 minutes at a beautiful table on the porch. The views are spectacular! Perfectly cold martinis and beer. Great burgers and margherita pizza. Treat yourself and get to the Spring House!
We were happy to get a reservation on a Saturday night and the restaurant gladly changed the time for us. It's a glorious location overlooking the ocean on BI. The atmosphere was quite lively when we arrived-but we quickly realized that was for the outside porch dining w a more casual menu. Inside was almost empty. 2 of us had the filet mignon, ordered rare and both came medium. Still tasted good so we didn't return. The sauces were disappointing: blue cheese Vidalia onion was very bland. I ordered a side of grilled turnip which was mostly undercooked and thus bitter. Had "molten lava cake" which had a solid lump of chocolate and was cold. Asked for a second cup of coffee which never arrived. The people eating outside seemed to be enjoying themselves. Maybe the restaurant has lost focus on the more formal dining room.
We always have at least one dinner at the Spring House when we visit Block Island, and Friday night's dinner for three was excellent as usual. From the fresh raw bar local RI oysters (although they did seem on the small side for $3), to the kale and bean soup, roasted scallops, seared tuna, cod, and not to forget the martinis.
The food and service are always excellent and the view unequalled. We are always pleasantly surprised when a restaurant honors our special request on Open Table- in this case, to eat outside to take in the view.
My seared scallops in a pea purée with corn was outstanding as was my husbands filet.
Excellent service and great food!
Worth a trip while you're on Block Island.
The charm of the restaurants decor is always an attraction, but the menu was so very up- to -date and the service was perfect. From cocktails to appetizers, main course, and dessert and coffee - everything was excellent.
We headed to the Spring House after hearing several other couples rave about it. It was the last night of our honeymoon. We were not disappointed! The food was delicious - starting with littleneck clams with white beans and chorizo, a Manhattan clam chowder and finally baked duck breast with risotto, brussel sprouts and the hit of the night - sweet potato hash. I eat both gluten and dairy free so it took several tries with the server to find out what fit those parameters on the menu. But the food was the best we had on our trip!
I would recommend they highlight the menu choices as they do on their website to make it easier for customers who have special dietary requests. Other than that, make sure you visit this Block Island treasure.
We had a lovely dinner in this stately hotel above the sea. The view from the terrace is amazing! The interior is the right kind of vintage. We loved the bar area - well-stocked . Nice groupings of votage sofas in the center of the spacious room. We had a lovely table in a quiet corner. Delicious quinoa-stuffed sweet red peppers, terrfic duck, the best ever homemade cavatelli with eggplant chunks straightfrom the garden out back. Fresh white hydrangeas in the center of the table. The spaghetti squash and butternut squash were both excellent, as was the pumpkin soup. No room for dessert! The service was outstanding.
Beautiful, comfortable, great service, delicious, healthy choices
