Husband and wife team Tony Esnault and Yassmin Sarmadi, whose iconic French bistro Church & State paved the way for sophisticated downtown dining, have created an oasis in the Douglas Building.
Sitting in the atrium dining room for lunch, brunch or Saturday dinner, under the glass and steel roof, in the shade of a Pepper tree, listening to the trickle of the fountain, it’s easy to forget the bustle and noise of downtown.
Known for only using fresh and local ingredients, Chef Esnault pays tribute to the season with his full Seasonal Dinner Menu, featuring dishes that are available as each season permits. The Tasting Menus are designed to take guests on a divinely cultured tasting tour of Southern France.
The new Springside dining room is smaller in size compared to the Atrium at Spring, but the intimacy simply enhances the signature vivacity of a traditional French bistro.
The new vegetarian tasting menu is outstanding! Excellent service and a gorgeous setting.
Spring never disappoints! We brought friends from out of town, and we had a wonderful meal, starting with the white shrimp appetizer. The duck received rave reviews for the richness of flavor as well as the preparation. The saffron in the bourride complemented the fish. We closed with a panna cotta that was light and fresh. Spring is such a gem. We always enjoy our dinners there, and we are happy to have it in DTLA!
Well, they've moved to Yelp rez now so this might not matter. Really bad service. Mehhhhh food. Ordered drinks that never arrived. Pre-ordered birthday cake (on phone, not through Open Table) that never arrived. Food came out sporadically and, even though the restaurant was only 1/3 filled, was served to the wrong people. I'd skip it for brunch. Very attractive place. Not a keeper in my book!
A special place for a special meal. The gift card that we had was a birthday gift from my daughter and son-in-law. They were pleased to hear that we enjoyed Spring.
Always Outstanding !!
Did not impress nor live up to its reputation for excellent dining. Atrium is attractive but hardly worth a visit.
the English pea soup and white shrimp appetizer were stellar. I tasted the crushed potatoes that my wife had with her steak and it was very good.
Arrived at the start of the dining service, so very few people and very quiet which was nice. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food blended flavors and used fresh ingredients in a creative way - I had the hamachi starter and the pasta with rabbit. We shared the rhubarb mousse dessert which was light and refreshing, thought rhubarb could have been cooked just a bit more to make it softer and bring out the flavor better.
Very fresh and enjoyable food good service the only disappointing thing was the lobster Benedict the actual lobster portion was very skimpy.
Mediocre service. Out of oysters at 8pm. Hit and miss overall taste. Very elderly crowd on a Saturday night. Beautiful setting, but we won’t be going back.
We went to spring with our neighbors and were quite charmed by the very knowledgeable and kind staff. Sometimes in LA you can bump up against attitude no servers, this was absolutely not the case here at this gorgeous restaurant! The food was amazing, the sommelier was attentive and extremely helpful. All the wait staff polite and enthusiast. We had the tasting menu and enjoyed it immensely. Tony and Yasmine, the owners are also amazing! This is truly a gem in Los Angeles!
Beautiful setting with really good food.
Could have been a lot better and creative food. Appetizers obviously preprepared and less than satisfying. Entrees just average
My friends and I had a wonderful time at Spring last Saturday to celebrate one of our birthdays. We plan to bring our families separately to enjoy this beautiful refreshing restaurant!
It was a great dining experience for my husband and I. The sommelier was great at getting is a wine that went with both of our meals and that we'd enjoy. We got their risotto and the rabbit pasta, which was delicious! It might have been one of the bestnmeals we have had in a while.
Fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned and generous portion made the broccoli soup perfection. The bronzsno was simply delicious, as was the chocolate & coffee mousse / ice cream dessert. Price for this lunch time masterpiece was very reasonable.
The food never ceases to amaze here and the wine selection put together by Victor is interesting and very well curated.
Ambiance was excellent. Food was okay. Service was horrible. One basic etiquette of waitresses is to fill an empty cup with water at any given moment. However, I had to constantly ask for more water and in the end just stopped calling over the waitress and was left thirsty. We waited and waited for our check, and when our waitress finally brought it over, she briskly said "Thanks, have a great..." and turned away before even finishing her sentence! So not genuine, cold, and it just felt like we weren't being taken care of throughout the whole experience. Such a shame as the restaurant is beautiful and the food okay. I've sent the restaurant an email but have not yet heard back.
Wonderful ambiance and the food and wines were excellent!
Every item was memorable! Wonderful service.
Sophisticated, delicious, well presented plates, excellent value (price-quality) friendly service and nice patio. Highly recommended as one of the best restaurants in LA
Went with another business associate while visiting downtown, LA. The food was excellent, and the service very good. The setting is quite nice with a lovely indoor courtyard. I definitely recommend for a great meal.
beautiful interior- the bar area was inviting. The color scheme so relaxing and calm. The open kitchen was a plus- our waiter Tim was a bit pushy and stopped over too many times! Tim needs to learn timing- overall, will return!
Beautiful setting "under glass" - open dynamic kitchen - personal attention and delicious dishes made and served with great care. Within "walking" distance (up that hill on the way back may be daunting) from the Music Center and Disney Hall. Please go and support your local chef!!!!!
Always a wonderful dining experience at Spring. I had the CBD infused power lunch - carrot celery soup, risotto with peas and the panna cotta. The soup was delicious, though not quite as luxuriant as the butternut squash soup previously on the menu. The green pea risotto was amazing, far exceeding the beet risotto that I previously had. The flavors were intense and well blended, and the peas were just the right amount of snap. The panna cotta was, as alway, a fabulous and irresistible way to finish our wonderful dining experience, with fresh mango bits and a pineapple sorbet brightly contrasting the lucious, mildly sweet panna cotta and crisps.
This is fine modern dining at its best
Understated refined elegant setting, delicious food beautifully presented, clearly prepared with love by people who care deeply about their craft. The best restaurant I have eaten at in The LA area
Excellent, as usual. Beautiful space and delectable food.
Our group of seven enjoyed the ambiance and unique, excellent food. Service was a little slow. Prices high
Beautiful inside and the food I had were delicious. I throughly enjoyed my mushroom risotto and branzino and the pane cotta was very fresh, light, and citrus-y. I went with three others and there was an entree or appetizer they weren't thrilled with. Thought it was just ok. I thought charging $4 for what amounted to three and a half pieces of bread was a bit excessive but the bread was outstanding.
The food was great. We had a dozen oysters, the past with rabbit- delicious!- the duck breast and a chocolate dessert that was very good. It's a beautiful restaurant and what I call an adult restaurant- the noise level is moderate so, you can talk , no need to shout. My only complain, no coffe refills. They charge for refills.
The main part of the restaurant in now closed during the week and moved to the bar. The food was disappointing and the experience was a lot different than the past two times we ate there.
Food was delicious and nicely served. It was a special occasion and I had counted on being in the larger atrium with my guests but was informed when we arrived that we would be in the much more casual and noisy front bar area. It was disappointing and I would have changed our dates or venue if told earlier. My guests enjoyed themselves, raved about the food but it was difficult to converse. I will return but on the weekend when the atrium is open. Our meals were outstanding.
I was hosting a Supreme Court Justice from Hawaii and was disappointed that we were in the outside room. It was just not nice enough and had I know that on Thursday nights we would not get the inside room, I would have booked elsewhere. And even though we were in the cheap outer room - we could not get the Happy Hour specials -- CHEEESY! If we HAVE to eat in the bar area why don't we get the bar specials?? POOR service and too many NOs - No we don't have beet salad, no you can't sit in the pretty room, NO you can't have the Happy Hour specials. This was supposed to be a FUN experience not an evening with my kindergarten teacher.
Excellent restaurant! Will definitely go again!
Perfect date spot, impeccable food, incredible decor. If you're on a date, ask for a seat next to the fountain. You won't regret it!
Restaurant now closed
I like this place for lunch — beautiful atrium and fresh food
I wish they would credit me for the reservation on open table
