As always, Spotted Donkey is a great spot for quality SW food at reasonable prices. Service was a little off this time....perhaps a new server.....but not enough to be a problem.
Way overpriced for food that was not that good. Poor service.
Pleasant ambiance, quiet enough so you don’t have to talk loud to hear each other speak. Good food. Indoor and outside seating options.
Great dinner but really wonderful service from our host and waitress. One of our favorite places to go
We are visiting from out if town but have been here several times before and had a great experience. This time- bartenders were awesome and food excellent but service was very slow and one dinner was forgotten in our group of 6. No discount or apology by the server. We might re- think our choice for dinner next time.
The hostess and staff were really friendly, making the evening really enjoyable!!
All was good with the notable exception that it took three requests (first two made to busboys) to get a glass of wine for my dinner companion.
We all ordered dishes we had never tried. We were NOT disappointed!! Everything was wonderful.
Awesome Mexican food. And very accommodating and knowledgeable about Gluten-Free dining at this restaurant. Highly recommended.
The service and the food were excellent! It was a really great way to kick off our girls weekend. Thank you!
Great food! Great ambiance! Picky pear margarita is yummy!
The food was wonderful. Looking forward to trying new dish next time.
Good street tacos and the margaritas were delicious!! Service was very nice, and they accommodated us on the patio!! Would recommend to anyone wanting a little different twist on Mexican food, as in better than the typical burrito, and enchilada microwaved plates!! Fresh cooked Southwest style creative dishes, with fresh ingredients!
Just OK. Not great value. Employees not real enthusiastic. Go here because it's convenient. I don't leave upset or anything, just not overwhelmed. As I said, just OK.
There was 5 of us that went out on a Tuesday night. Had reservations at 6:30, we were there 15 mins early and got seated right away. Our waitress was wonderful. The appetizers we got were so good, and the main dishes were even better. I had a skinny senorita, and it was so good! We will definitely be returning.
The shrimp ceviche was ok but too much red sauce
The fish tacos were drowned in sauce and too much salt.Fish was overly deep fried with too much batter.
The Chiles Rellano was tasty but too much salt.
The serving staff was very good and attentive.
Overall, nice looking restaurant with disappointing food.
Great food. Loved the cantina poppers. Been here numerous times and they have never disappointed us. We will be back.
My friends and I split tacos, a burrito, and the nachos. Derek was our waiter and he was friendly and attentive. Thank you Derek and Spotted Donkey for a great dining experience.
This was the 2nd visit here. The food and the price are very good. But once again the seating by the hostess was a disaster; she refused to seat us away from the bar area and wouldn't give us a table near the back area. Seems that if you make a reservation you must specify a seating area (like a table #)! We asked to speak to the manager and he immediately seated us near the back area. We were pleased to have the problem solved..bu shouldn't have been such a problem. We will return but not for sometime.
We made a reservation at the Spotted Donkey because we were staying at the Boulders Resort and thought this would be a great place to celebrate my fiance's birthday. This was a disaster our food and drinks took almost an hour, our checks were all incorrect, and the worst was service. It was so hard to get our waitresses attention, my sister in law is gluten free and we had to ask several times if what we were getting was gluten free every time she said she would ask and then never come back... really disappointed.
My experience at the Spotted Donkey is always positive, thank you,.
The food was very good. The prices were higher than necessary for Mexican food. The ambience and service didn’t make up for a higher price. Not sure that we’d go back.
Spotted Donkey was amazing!! We had the best time, from start to finish. The staff was so attentive, food was excellent, and the ambiance was so fun.
Great buzzy Mexican which is very popular .. and rightly so! Book ahead!
We greatly enjoyed our first visit. The service was very good and attentive. The food was outstanding at great value. The only negative was the hostess who didn’t read her device to see that we had reservations and proceeded to seat us in bar area while the entire restaurant had plenty of open tables — saying these were for reservations. I told her I wanted to seated in the restaurant and in a disgruntled way gave us seats there! The 2nd hostess came asked what was the reservation name. This the only issue for the place and so we’ll be back!
We sat on patio for 15 mins before a passing server took our drink order. Drinks came 15 mins later. Our server came 10 mins later. Afraid we wouldn’t see a server again, we ordered food. Food arrived 5-10 mins later. We felt rushed with food arriving quickly. The food was great, but the service was substandard. Spoke with manager whom was cordial, but without compensation, simply apologized. The flow was nonexistent snd service poor.
Best Mexican food in the valley. Red Chile is spectacular.
This is one of our favorite places to eat. Service is good, drinks are good, food is consistent.
Have been there many times the nachos were good and just not as good as in the past. They appeared to have been warmed under a heating lamp or in a microwave.
The Chimichanga with chicken at the Spotted Donkey was fantastic. Stuffed with chicken meat and black beans and toasty crusty on the outside. The shrimp tacos were great for a light and satisfying meal. What did disappoint is the lack of any complementary chips and salsa and the traditional margarita was weak. That is why my rating is 3 star and not 4.
THis is NOT authentic Mexican food. No chips and salsa were offered with dinner. I assume They charge you for it. The menu was a little strange. A Cobb salad at a Mexican restaurant? Not what I’m looking for. It could definitely be more appealing on the outside. It looks sorta deserted. They were playing country music which was strange. It was also very far from the actually rooms at the resort. Quite a trek If you’re walking. The food was in the pricey side, I expected This at a resort restaurant but I got A chimichanga with no sides and it was $18. It was like grilled toasted and not deep fried. Very strange.
I thought the food was ok but overpriced! Their tequila was good, but overpriced also. It was hard to come to town on a budget and plan meals when, in the off season, it should be more reasonable.
Mediocre food, terrible service
Worth trying if you like Mexican food and happen to be staying at The Boulders
Food and drinks mediocre at best. Server was the worst! He showed up after we ordered drinks and appetizers from the bartender. My husband tried to get his attention the 4 times that server walked by. When he came to the table he told my husband his arm would fall off waving it like that. He told him he had tried to get his attention 4 times.. When he brought the bill he tossed it on the table and said he never had anyone yell at him for doing his job and walked away. It was Father's Day so I paid cash for the lunch with no tip. I went to the hostess stand on our way out to ask for a manager but the hostess answered the phone and motioned with her finger for me to wait. We won't be back! I work in retail, we don't treat customers that way! I usually don't post reviews but this one needed it!
A nice change from other Mexican food restaurants the service was very good
It was amazing
We had the best experience at your restaurant this past Monday. Everything exceeded our expectations. Derek was beyond amazing and attentive to our every need. We are still telling people what a great time we had. Food, service from Derek and drinks were phenomenal. We will definitely be returning to this location!!
My husband & I really enjoyed our dinner at The Spotted Donkey. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Save room for the “lot’s of layers Choc. cake. Awesome! We love going there because it’s like 14min. Away. :-)). Thanks
Our entree was great but didn’t realize the enchiladas come with both red and green sauce. Seemed as if you had more of a choice when described. Not your standard chips and salsa that you pay $9 for. Not impressed with the different types of salsa you get. It’s a well kept restaurant, but in a building that has little to no other shops so it makes it weird going there. Our booth was too close to the table next to us so we couldn’t enjoy a private conversation for our birthday celebration. Margarita was great, but a little on the small size for the price. Probably more of a local hangout spot as this isn’t actually located at the hotel. Average place, nothing too spectacular.
