Why take over an old Kentucky Fried Chicken? In the 1960s, KFC introduced America to the spork - the spoon/fork combo that became synonymous with fast-food culture. As our namesake, we thought we’d combine a low key, quirky atmosphere with really high quality food, single varietal wines and eclectic beers. Why not see if a multinational chain that served low quality, mass produced food could be reborn into something small, local and fresh while keeping its connection to American cuisine and history? Serving slow food in a fast food shell seemed like an interesting idea.

the restaurant is closing so i feel comfortable sharing my experience... the seared scallops were not good...perhaps not well done enough...no taste another salad was not to my liking....goat cheese...not enough...needed a cracker or flat bread to give it a boost.... the best dish...appetizer...sashima...EXCELLENT...unfortunately they are closing otherwise i'd go back and have a glass of wine and the appetizer...that's it!

We booked this online, so just went by the reviews. Walking toward the front entrance I still didn't know what to expect. Not fancy, for sure - but sure was crowded. We were super late (driving in from San Jose) but they gleefully kept our reservations (Thank you!!!). Friendly service- excellent food!!! Lively atmosphere, yet not loud. Loved this place!

During the first hour of business on a Friday night, the restaurant was only half full (half empty?) and there were at least 3 waitstaff around yet service was slow. I might almost say that they wanted to not rush us and let us enjoy the ambiance (which is stellar, by the way) but it took quite a while to get two beers, two burgers (one out-side-in, one in-side-out), and the check.

Spork has excellent food. The pork medallions were served over broccolini and whipped sweet potatoes, and tasted even better than they looked, and the capers added a surprising complement to the sweeter base. The potatoes served with the inside-out burger probably took a few years off my life, but tasted too good for anything else to matter. I did think the food was a little pricey--not dramatic, but just a few dollars too much for what you get. The atmosphere was fun and hip, but a little too dark to easily read the menu or enjoy the full presentation of the food. And it was definitely too noisy. Still, if you have a few bucks to spare and want some interesting, delicious food, I recommend it.

Fantastic food combined with absolutely disastrous service. Our waiter gave us great suggestions from the menu, then left us without getting our drinks or bread. All evening this continued, him flitting around empty handed, us waiting and waving him down. But when he actually did bring food to the table, it was simply delicious.

We had a great meal at Spork with another couple. We started with the tuna appetizer along with the goat cheese croquette and roasted beet salad and an order of the calamari and brussel sprouts. All 3 were delicious but the favorite was the brussel sprouts with calamari. The aioli on the dish really brought it all together. The wine list was short but well chosen. We had a bottle of Preston Barbera (delicious) and a bottle of rioja afterwards. I had the farro risotto for dinner which was very good but could have used something crunchy. The smashed potatoes that came with the burger were a hit. The pork and mussels got good reviews but the pork was quite dry. We shared 3 desserts - all delicious but Elvis was the best. The coffee was AWESOM

Went for Brunch and had a reservation for 11:15am. Since they open at 11am the place was freshly packed with people. This caused the service to be extremely slow since everyone was putting their order in at the same time. Took close to an hour to get our food. Food was average and nothing special.

The appetizers were wonderfully tasty for the 3 of us. We had the calamari with brussels sprouts, the green beans, and the apple salad with endive. We should have had just one entree, but ended up with three, which was too much food. My scallops were very good, but not particularly special and there were only 4 of them. My friend only the other hand, had a huge portion of pork chops which she enjoyed but had to take most of it home with her. My other friend had a tuna casserole which was very disappointing. She thought it was ok, but I thought it tasted very fishy and unfresh. I would have sent it back but she disagreed. We had one dessert for my friend's birthday, which was nicely on the house, and it was a delicious brownie sundae

This review is for the Brunch service on Sunday. Service - our main server was okay but I do applaud the other wait staff especially the front gal who was our first contact showed and served us great customer service. Food was okay as well. I do however want to praise their Skillet French toast as I thought it was original and unique taste with whipped type butter and sauce and frut drizzle was perfect. My husband wasn't too thrilled about his omelett and my daughters was just the plain eggs and bacon so nothing to rave about there. The coffee cake that everyones raves about was VERY disappointing. The top had a nice sweet crust but once we bit into the "heart" of the coffee cake...blahhhhh...BLAND! No taste...no flavor.

We looked forward to this because of it's positive reviews on "CheckPlease". Although two of us liked out meals, two of us did not think much of their's. The hamburger was the siZe of a slider. The service was flat and inconsistent- with drinks slow to arrive. Just not a very exciting place and we would not go back.

We had a wonderful time at Spork, and will be going back. The service was fantastic. I have inconvenient food allergies, and they were terrific about accommodating them. The food was spectacular. They did an appetizer of calamari and cauliflower that was the best treatment of cauliflower I have ever had. Amazing! The ambiance is charming - a tip of the hat to the building's origins.

This was our second time at Spork; the first a few weeks earlier, which was great. This time, however, it was a real disappointment. We went back specifically to have the Cauliflower and Calamari appetizer, which unfortunately came out tepid and limp. We then waited more than an hour for our entries, which we could see were sitting on the counter for at least ten minutes while a confused waitress tried to figure out which order they were for. When they finally arrived, they were cold. When we pointed this out our waitress she started arguing with us. Fair to say I’m not going back.

3 1/2 stars. We absloutely loved the cauliflower and calamari appetizer! I had wished I ordered it for my main plate as my entree was mediocre. One thing I have to give high praises though is for the service. About 20 minutes into service our waitor came back and told us he was sorry but they had run out of the stroganoff that my dad and I ordered. Disappointment indeed! Needless to say not all lost, the restaurant compted not only the two entrees but also all the desserts including coffee. I don't know whether or not I would have come back based on my second choice entree (mission eggs), but the kind gesture will have me coming back to try the stroganoff.

Very nice service: attentive, nowhere near overbearing. Enjoyed the Malbec by the glass, the calamari appetizer (not the breaded/fried rings you're used to ... with especially tasty cauliflower included), the steak stroganoff. Ice cream dessert (their custom flavor, I THINK this is called The After-School Special) was also very good.

Normally love this place, but I think they had an "off" night. All we ordered was a burger and a salad and it took almost an hour for our food to come out. No joke. We thought we were special when someone randomly came over with a plate of peaches with goat cheese and said it was "a gift" half-way through, but then we eventually realized they were giving it to make up for the fact that our actual meal was going to take forever. Credit to them for at least trying to make it up to us somehow. Only other thing is that the burger, although good, was ridiculously difficult to eat. It was twice the height of my mouth stretched wide open. Crazy! I won't be ordering that again.

I had the kobe beef, I asked for almost raw and they did exactly what I wanted. The beef was a little on the tough side, not all of it, just small parts but the dish was very very tasty and I soaked up all the juices with bread. Others in my group had the pasta/eggplant, scallops and mussels, we all loved what we had. Our waitress was great, she asked if we were celebrating anything and we told her 2 birthdays, we got a decadent Elvis dessert on the house. I ordered a Muscato de Asti dessert wine, at other restaurants you get a tiny bit but here I got a whole glass, the glass wasn't huge but more than other places. I will definitely go back, the menu isn't extensive but what they have looks good.

The food was delicious, the halibut flavorful and tender, the hamburger the best ever with yummy smashed potatoes. Desserts are rich, decadent, and unusual. We had a bowl of vanilla ice cream filled with chocolate covered potato chips. Sounds weird, but it was amazing! Will definitely go back to Spork.

Cauliflower/Calamari yummy...everything was prepared very nice and satisfied the palate nicely...would go back to try the burgers which two of four had, said it was delicious. I had Scallops, again yummy...will go back.
