Excellent menu and service. Desserts were scrumptious
The meal at Spoon was excellent from start to finish. The bread basket held true baking treasures (small biscuits, light corn muffins, baguette style bread), all superb. We liked our appetizers (the intriguingly composed salad and the toothy ricotta dumplings) but it was the main plates where the sophistication of the cooking truly shone.
The service was attentive, friendly, and collaborative, a rare trifecta these days. We can only recommend Spoon most enthusiastically.
Sevice was very good. Food was nothing exceptional but can’t complain. A bit of a drive from city center and restaurant was not willing to call a taxi for us after dinner to return to our hotel. Would not go back. Too many other great restaurants our uber driver told us about on our way back to our hotel....many of them are rated higher on trip advisor.
My husband and I had a very nice dinner. Our waitress was great the food was good and the wine list was nice.
Everything was great except the one meal. The chicken was so over cooked it could not be eaten.
Spoon is one of our "go-to" dining spots. The bar service is great; creative, excellent cocktails. We love sitting by the fire before our meal. If it's just the two of us, we enjoy eating at the bar. But we enjoy sharing this great restaurant with our friends as well. Everything is well-prepared with the freshest of ingredients. The wait staff are all very familiar with the dishes, how they're prepared, ingredients, etc. Great appetizers... had the pork belly sliders this time; my husband enjoyed the steak tartar. Our friends opted for the gnocchi... pillows of deliciousness! The pork ragu was wonderful, and you can't go wrong with their "Spoon Burger". Attentive staff without too much hovering. Always a great meal.
This was easily the best meal my friend and I have had in a long time! We go to all of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh, so that says something. I won’t call out other restaurants but we’ve easily paid double at other places and not enjoyed the meal quite as much! The service was excellent and she was very helpful in steering us in the right direction. I asked about two different meals and figured she’d recommend the more expensive one; she didn’t. I loved the wild boar ragu. Also, if you go, the Dan Dan as a starter is an absolute must!!
The food was good, a little over priced for the serving size. However the major thing that really disgusted my friend and I was the women's bathroom floors were sticky! They were dirty behind the toilets and it was dark in there. For me that says a lot about a place. Provably won't be back.
The staff was friendly, atmosphere pleasant. Food and beverages were creative and delicious.
The food was good. I liked the wild boar and the octopus. The cocktails were also very delightful. We had the pistachio cake and it was very tasty.
Pan seared foie gras is the main reason we came here. It was excellent! Scallops were huge prepared with delicious pork belly chunks, an exceptional dish! The juicy burger had a slight kick to it and was served with a heaping pile of fries. The side of onion rings rounded out a delicious meal. The decor was simple and clean, felt cozy even with the high ceilings. The lighting was perfect, soft but bright enough to read the menu. Came here with my daughter before she returned to campus. Will return for sure!
Spoon was a terrific Saturday dinner. We had friends come from out of town and met them there. I have some food insensitivities and Spoon was very accommodating to them. Great cocktail and wine list. Friends enjoyed the wild boar pasta dish, I had the chicken, my wife had Dan Dan noodles and ravioli...all dishes were beautifully presented and tasty. Fine dining, but not over priced for the quality. Great desserts also. Overall a great experience and I'd highly recommend Spoon to anyone!
Interesting and well-presented food coupled with attentive and friendly service made this an enjoyable night out. Above average wine list. We will be back!
The food was good but not great. The service was the real problem though. It took 15 minutes for someone to finally come to our table and she didn’t even ask to take our drink order. She only took it when we asked if we could order drinks. Then it took over 20 minutes to get the drinks (a draft beer and an old fashioned). The salad came before the drinks. We were never asked if we wanted another drink during the two hours that the dinner for two took.
I thought the food was good, but not great, and somewhat below my previous experiences there. I also thought the lighting was too bright.
This is a wonderful restaurant. Tremendous food and very professional service. A very nice location for a special dinner. We greatly enjoyed every dish.
Great Food, service and atmosphere!! We will be back.
It doesn’t get any better then this! Great food, presentation, and service. The waitstaff were excellent! Decor was great - everything from the white oak tables to the color accents. I’d recommend it to anyone!
My husband mentioned to the waitress that it was our wedding anniversary and she surprised us when bringing us our dessert by having the words congratulations spelled out in chocolate on the dessert plate. We thought that was a very thoughtful and an unexpected touch! This made our anniversary a little more special thanks to her taking the initiative to add that extra special little detail!:)
Wonderful food and service. Will definitely return
Food was okay i’d Rather go to chipotle honestly. Waste of money chipotle is only 7.33 and I woulda had a bigger smile on my face rather than an 90 dollar plate that felt like I ate an kid lunchable.
We've been to Spoon twice. The first time, the food and the service were both excellent. This time, the food was still quite good, but the service was really lacking. Perhaps they were short staffed, but it seemed like the bartender for the entire restaurant was also our waiter. Not very friendly, seemed hurried... and Pittsburgh's food scene is too competitive to deal with sub-par service. Will probably go elsewhere in the future for special occasions.
Overall the food was very tasty and the cocktails were outstanding! We tried the fennel leek soup and carrot pierogies which were flavorful. My husband had the lamb shanks which were done perfectly...not too gamey. I got the spoon burger which kind of fell flat for me, but the frites were so yummy. The best part was the service was great and it wasn't loud. I would go again.
Great ambiance, nice service and good food. The octopus was very good!
Chefs dinner was worth the money tons of food for 45. App 2 entree and dessert. Entrees are big portions easily feeding 2
Nice ambient, good service but too expensive
Food was really good. It was Valentine's Day so it was a limited menu. Seafood curry was excellent. Octopus was tender and perfectly cooked. The large scallop in the middle was one of the most perfectly cooked ones I have ever eaten. The addition of basil and mint leaves was a perfect touch. Lemon dessert was fabulous., I would go back for the ginger ice cream. The room is big and open and not very intimate so a drawback. It gets fairly noisy making it difficult to have a conversation when you are seated in the middle of the room with adjoining tables. The service was excellent. The server was knowledgeable and described the dishes very well.
The lights were too bright so they lowered them but still very bright for this type of restaurant.
Had a very good meal and thank you
The food was delicious and the wine excellent! Would definitely recommend this place.
Nothing special about the food, it was average
Blue cheese soufflé appetizer was very dry
Carrot pirogue appetizer just didn't have enough sauce
Soup appetizer was good
Octopus entree was good
Pork entree had pork belly with very little meat, mostly fat, pork was good
Other better options in Pittsburgh
Spoon is the "go to" restaurant when you want an excellent meal with great service. We live close by and go there often. It is one of the top restaurants in the East End of the City.
Great food and dining experience!
Tables are too close for the noise level. Music needs to be louder maybe? Very annoying hearing every conversation near us.
Food was okay but the selection wasn’t good for us
First trip to Spoon and it was worth the visit. My first impression was the servers where very attentive and did a fantastic job throughout our meal.
We each got an app and an entree. The Blue Cheese soufflé was very good, I was expecting more blue cheese presence in the dish but the flavors worked well together in the dish. My wife got the Korean Beef app which we both enjoyed greatly.
Our entrees we both very good. I would recommend the pork dish, the duo of pork shoulder and crispy pork belly is a favorite of mine.
The drink menu has several interesting house cocktails and the wine list is strong. They do a nice job of featuring unique wines by the glass you won’t see at other establishments in the area.
Had a wonderful birthday celebration with 8 people. Server was fantastic and added to the experience. Food was great. Loved it all.
My fiance and I try to make it to a new restaurant every month. This month we tried Spoon. We started out with the Carrot Pierogi and Korean BBQ appetizer. Both were great, but we seem to favor the Pierogi the most. My fiance had the swordfish and I the filet. Both were cooked perfectly, delicious, and were more than enough, as far as portion size goes. We were told that we had to try the Spoon Burger, so we got that as well. It was good, but not as great as the other two entrees. We ended up with two appetizers and three entrees and it just put us over the $100 mark. I would recommend to anybody looking to try a new restaurant!
Everything was delicious! Carrot pierogies were awesome and delightfully different the hanger steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had.
came here on a date. incredible food, but it was very slow and our waiter disappeared at times. a nice, quiet place with great food.
