Food and service was excellent! I would highly recommend Spoon for an elevated take on classic food.
We had not been back to Spoon for a long time. We very much enjoyed our sophisticated meal. We had wine and interesting gin cocktails followed by a winter salad and a takeoff of sushi with crabmeat wrapped in tuna with a wasabi cream sauce. The bread basket was wonderful with a variation of cornbread, biscuits, and baguettes. The shellfish stew had more mussels and shrimp than I have ever had in a similar dish of bouillabaisse and cioppino, with more vegetables and less garlic. My wife had the chicken with a mushroom stuffing, which was surprisingly excellent, her choice being made on her limited palate. We were very full and chose coconut ice cream with chocolate chunks and raspberry sorbet.
Our only complaint is that the menu always has a lot of interesting idiosyncrasies. That printed online does not reflect the evening’ s menu, explaining my wife’s choice of chicken. It would be helpful if an up-to-date menu were available so there are no surprises for those who have specific tastes.
Love the new look. Excellent food.
Had a great meal with friends. We all enjoyed the food, drinks and ambiance . My only criticism is that the wine pour was small and the cocktails were as well!!
Great food, great wine and great people.
Food was well prepared and presented. At the time we ate there were very few other customers -- a Tuesday night about 7 PM. The staff was suitably attentive.
The food is great, the service is great. A nice place to take a date. The bar is nice for eating alone or with a friend. The Bartenders are knowledgable. I wish the lighting was better. It's usually too brightly lit, but overall it's a good dining out experience.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service as always!!!
The atmosphere, service and food was second to none!
Just ok so too pricey for the product. Scallops tasted good but overcooked. Short ribs were good except onion topping Wes super super salty. Ruined it. Filet very good but the entire plate was brown. No color or other flavor. Bummer. We won’t return.
They gave us glasses of champagne for our anniversary!
Was in town for work
I love Spoon! Been a regular at the establishment. Never disappointed. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to have a nice dinner with friends and family.
Recently celebrated our anniversary at Spoon and it was an amazing experience. The service was excellent. Our waiter was engaging and very knowledgeable about the food which was spectacular fom the short rib foie sliders to the scollops carbonara in uni cream sauce to the specially decorated pavlova. Everything was perfect. We chose Spoon because we had a gift card but we will go back because we loved everything about it!
Valentines day
This was such a wonderful choice for our anniversary. Not only were the food proportions great for the price, but the food was spectacular. We were able to relax and take our time, and the waitress was wonderful when it came to pace and being the right amount of attentive. I would highly recommend for a casual dinner or special occasion, as the setting allows for both. Overall, it was a great experience and we’ll be going there again.
Always a joy.
The food was wonderful! Best meal we had in a while.
One of the best restaurants in all of Pittsburgh- consistently five star food and attentive service.
Great service. Nice place. The food was great. Filet was among the best I have had! Hot honey carrots......yum!!
Everything was excellent.....our server and staff was so professional and attentive. Food was presented beautifully and was delicious. It was a wonderful experience. We throughly enjoyed everything and hope you return very soon.
It is unusual to find lamb shank in Pittsburgh. Spoon's is excellent - literally falling off the bone at a touch of the fork. The accompanying risotto was exceptional - creamy and lightly flavored. The General Tso's cauliflower was a knock out - I want to make it at home! I was a disappointed in the pavlova; the shell was too hard and didn't care for the curd or the cranberries. Stick with the classic fresh fruit and whipped cream :)
We had a very good host who could tell us about each entree and starters . We really enjoyed the meal
This was my first time and I loved it. The food was amazing! I’ve already suggested it to many friends.
Isabella was wonderful!
Lovely 3 course for Restaurant week but service was very slow
The food and our server, Ben, were exceptional! We tried many foods we never ate before and because of the fantastic meal, decided to try and replicate the meal .
The only improvements would be to clean the sticky floors and have more tables for 2 - 4 people other than the banquet.
One sits closer to a stranger than to their date
Food was incredible and service was second to none, we will definitely be back!
We went for Restaurant Week and the menu was very inventive and delicious. Between the two of us we had all the offerings and everything was wonderful. The device was impeccable.
Spoon continues to surprise and evolve. The decor update is excellent and the food continues to amaze!
Food looked good and was nicely balanced. The soup was outstanding, and though I was initially concerned about use of truffle oil (not being a great fan), it was absolutely fine and nicely balanced. The main course of roast chicken was delicious - though I would expect roasted root vegetables to have some caramelisation and not be quite so crunchy. The pavlova was the least successful I thought - some cream would be usual and would have cut through the acidity of the lemon.
We had the restaurant week special. The mushroom fennel soup and bread basket were amazing. The entree, black cod in miso sauce with noodles was very good, but not amazing. The date cake dessert was to die for. Very good dinner for the cost.
Spoon is usually a great Pittsburgh staple for good food, however, i hadn't been there in a while. The food and ambiance was still good as usual, but the service was just so odd. First, i asked our waiter which of two dishes he recommended and he replied "I haven't had either of them. I don't eat the food, I just serve it." Really? You are waiting at a restaurant where service is part of the overall experience and the chef hasn't had all of its wait staff try every dish? Even if you haven't tried them all, to make a comment like that sounds like you have no clue about the food you serve. He also didn't give us a minute to look over the menu before he asked what we wanted to eat, and lingered around our table while we looked. At the end, he gave us the wrong table's check. I will return to Spoon again, but I do hope at that point the wait staff is a bit more knowledgeable about the food they are serving.
Every single person on staff was incredibly kind, from the hostess to the sommelier. It was a great evening and money well spent. The 4 course meal was incredible and I swear on my life I have never had better lamb, the kitchen was on their game.
Estelle first service, food, and setting. Great cocktails too.
Small but good menu with a wide drink selection. Service was understated but good.
Dining room was a little too bright. We felt like we were eating in an office space.
4 Guests - Everyone loved the Main Courses , appetizers and the Biscuits !!
We went out for a birthday dinner. Ordered the Chef’s dinner, which was diverse, delicious, and very well executed. It was actually too much food for 3 of us.
New Years Eve 2019. Pre Fixe menu was outstanding. We will be back.
Visiting from DC and had to stop at this Pittsburgh staple. There are not enough words to express how wonderful this meal was! From the amazing biscuits and starters to our entrees and sides, everything was delicious. The portions are not small - we definitely over ordered as a result, but were happy because we got to try a little bit of everything. Would highly recommend the dan dan noodles, octopus, seafood stew, and the burger was excellent!
