Spoon never disappoints! I would go for the bread basket alone!
There were mixed reviews of the food at my table but overall the menu was adventurous and there were some items that were spectacular eg. The innovative cocktails and appetizers. Our server spoken too softly and quickly and wasn’t very attentive. I would try it again, though since there were a number of aspects of the dinner the we enjoyed.
over all experience was great. Service was efficient and very pleasant. Food and cocktails were delicious.
Good wasn’t as good as the first time.. slow getting our main course
Thoroughly mediocre. With a plethora of brunch options available around pittsburgh, this is an easy skip. Went for Mother’s Day brunch. Seated on time for a reservation, but took 15 minutes for coffee to arrive, half of it sediment and sludge. In the height of irony, there were no spoons for coffee or brunch. Ordered a Bloody Mary immediately that arrived after about 30 minutes with the meal. Undrinkable with about half a glass of horseradish. Server never asked if there was an issue or offered to replace or even to refund at the end of the meal; was utterly inattentive throughout. Food was overpriced for its quality and banality. Some form of scone or bread would be expected gratis for such a brunch environment. No. $9 if you desired it as an appetizer. So, to recap: so many better options around even just Shadyside. An easy pass. Thoroughly mediocre.
The appetizers were so appealing that made a meal of three of them. The octopus was the best version of octopus that I have had outside of Barcelona.
Two of us had the chicken and dear spouse had the pasta. Our chicken was VERY spicy. More so than I expected. The waiter should have cautioned us as to how spicy it was. I eat at Indian restaurants on a fairly regular basis and order at a minimum of 5, however, I would say my dinner was about a 7 or 8. The service was well timed and I love that they have valet parking. DS was very happy with his creamy lamb and pasta, he would order again. We had the goat cheese soufflé appetizer and were so happy that we did. Light and fluffy, but flavorful. We will be back, just not for the spicy chicken.
The prices are too expensive for mediocre food and wine.
Our waitress was very good. And patient with our choices. The spring salad wasn’t very good, but that’s probably just personal choice. The chicken was great as was the spoon burger, according to my companions.
I think this place is a gem—the food is consistently excellent—but I wish they would train their waitstaff better. The greeting hosts are fine, but on three occasions now I felt that the waitperson didn’t have the sophistication to match the cuisine. From the way they talk about the food, to placing the silverware, and even how they discuss substitutions—somewhat amenably, But when they say Chef doesn’t like asparagus as a substitution, I bristle. I was skipping the fancy clam sauce with other accoutrement, so I can’t imagine adding asparagus was a net negative to the bottom line. Lastly, the far room was empty but they sat another party of 4 right next to us, and they were loud. Yes, I think these things would make a difference.
Business meeting over a meal. Great atmosphere to conduct meeting. Menu changes and great selection! The Dan Dan has amazing flavors! Also enjoyed the prime filet which was cooked to perfection! Service was fantastic! A must when in Shadyside!
Unique food, great service, accommodating of dietary needs.
Spoon is absolutely fabulous! This was my third dining experience at Spoon here in Pittsburgh. Delicious and delightful.
The food and service was awesome!
It was very underwhelming. I had better impression from a previous visit, but was disappointed this time. will not go back again.
we enjoyed our brunch and had the best waiter......way to go Logan!
We love Spoon but this visit was a bit off. It was Easter so I understand if staffing ratios were off but we waited a long time for things. I cringed when a few people in our party ordered dessert because I knew how slow it would be.
They might want to do a deep clean sometime. There were places in the bathroom that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months. A few places just kind of looked careworn.
We’ll definitely go back because I’m sure this was a one off. Food was delicious!
We were in Pittsburgh visiting Carnegie Mellon with tour son and couldn’t be more delighted with the outstanding meal we had at spoon. We literally couldn’t decide which of our dishes was the most delicious kudos
Our server was outstanding!!! The food bordered on spectacular. A terrific night all around.
Food was over salted. Cocktails great, appetizers good, entees (sea bass & octopus) not so good. Sea bass is an exceptionally delicious fish that was poorly prepared, couldnt taste the sweetness of the fish. Octopus was tender, but flavor was overblown. Similarly, the salad presentation was appealing, but both entrees were sloppily presented, neither was visually appealing. Greens with the seabass were Gloppy and common. Large portion sizes for entrees.
The food lacked flavor but had very nice presentation. The portions were small for the price. The service was great and the atmosphere was great.
I usually love this place. But, we were somewhat embarrassed having brought out of town guests this time. Duck breast was over cooked (we were told chef recommended medium rare but it was much more done, to our disappointment, and the spatzl under it was cold. The soup sounded delicious but arrived barely lukewarm.
A big disappointment this time. Seemed understaffed for a busy Friday night as well, at least the wait staff.
Hey guys, let’s get with the program and get back to your normal high standards!!
This is a relaxing environment. Pace of service was very nice and not rushed. Though the restaurant was full, we were able to talk easily at a normal voice level. The gin cocktails and food were spectacular. It costs more than most restaurants, but this is a very nice high-end place.
Spoon is a welcoming place - warm decor and absolutely a wonderful team of people working there. We stopped by for a quick dinner on a week night but lingered in as the staff (shout out to Albert) were amazing. The food was very good with a couple of excellent dishes! It is certainly on our restaurant go-to list.
the food was fine, but not great. however, the problem was that our food was just warm, not hot. true for our soup, and true for the two different entrees we ordered. i mentioned it to our server, and her response was "would you like me to warm it up for you?". It was very noticeable that our food was merely warm, and this really ruined the evening for us. I would not go back to Spoon again. The food is relatively expensive, and therefore i expect it to be served at the appropriate temperature, not just warm. On the plus side, the bread basket was excellent.
The restaurant is comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the food is great.
The food and service were lovely! Definitely will be back.
The good: The blue cheese souffle was fabulous (enough blue cheese, but not overwhelming) and the duck was very good, and cooked between medium and medium rare, which I like. (The server said it would be medium.) The service was pretty iffy, especially as it related to drinks: the server brought water right away but didn't ask whether we wanted drinks, and we ended up waiting until partway through our appetizers to get our aperatifs. There was a nice touch at the end when the server brought a scoop of fabulous ginger sorbet and an after-dinner drink, on the house for my partner's birthday.
We'd go again, but I don't feel like we need to rush back. We'll try other places at the same price point first.
It is one of our favorite places. Were disappointed in the service.
Had to wait 10-15 minutes to place our drink order.
We were happy to find a great place so close to the Ace Hotel. Nice window table in very pleasant space. I had bleu cheese soufflé (grrrrreat!) followed by wild boar pasta. Wife had a burger - a double patty number maybe inspired by the familiar one but worlds away. It was great as was pasta too. Perfectly stirred balanced Manhattan and a very good IPA on draft. All in all a great experience with the knowledgeable and even more amiable staff.
It was exceptional. The service, the food, and the setting were all fabulous. Our server (Albert) was knowledgeable and patient. He’s passionate about his job and seems to really believe in this restaurant/chef. He answered all our questions and seemed really excited about having us try the food and cocktails. He suggested we share plates so we could all try more dishes. We had starters, mains, and a dessert. All were delicious. We will definitely return.
Pleasant surprise on all accounts!
The restaurant was not crowded and two people were seated in the table next to us. They made repeated racially offensive comments and cursed throughout their meal. This made the overall experience suck.
Very professional and elevated in food sophistication
We really enjoyed it
The food and atmosphere were absolutely fantastic.
We had great meals at Spoon this week. The menu is changed on a regular basis and this menu had many interesting items. We started with the Maitake mushroom appetizer with red pepper flan and eggplant on grilled sour dough bread--it was outstanding. We also had the sea bass entree and the duck breast. Both were expertly prepared.
The food was fancy looking, but as for taste it was just okay.
Menu was very interesting. Biscuits are divine! Five of us dined there and all were delighted with their dinner. Our server was great, too. The casual vibe of the place belies the excellence of the food. Highly recommend.
Very enjoyable experience. Will definitely go back
A wonderful dinner. Meal was excellent. Steak perfectly done, and duck breast was excellent. Service was very professional and much appreciated. Very helpful and knowledgeable wine service. Venue very nice. The restaurant is highly recommended.
