Spoon is my absolute favorite place to dine. The four course meal is the best deal, and the chef did an amazing job adapting mine to be vegetarian. All dishes and the service were excellent. I can't wait to go back again soon!
Once again, the kitchen triumphs while front of house tries to keep up. Great food; that's crucial. But despite very friendly and sincere waitstaff, there are persistent issues from multiple visits that seem unnecessary: duplicate requests from different waitstaff about drinks; long wait times before wine or tea appears; mistakes of what's to acmes to whom. individual preferences are accommodated and followed, which doesn't always happen in restos, but here they are attentive.
Wonderful food and great service
It's a little pricey but the food was phenomenal! We had two appetizers, the dan dan bowl and the grilled octopus. The dan dan had an asian flare with noodles, spicy sauce, and a perfectly runny egg on top. The grilled octopus had a perfectly grilled flavor and the texture was amazing - not chewy or rubbery AT ALL! For our entrees, I had the chicken which came with the most delicious fried green tomatoes I've ever had and my fiance had the halibut which came with white beans that tasted amazing. Our waiter, Angelo, took great care of us and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We were both very pleased.
Ravioli was perhaps the most spicy thing I’ve ever eaten. Not pleasant at all
My boyfriend and I were very disappointed with our experience at Spoon. Our appetizers were burned, our entrees were bland, and the drinks from the bar were so strong they were almost undrinkable. We spent over $100 on dinner for two and left vowing to never return. The service was perhaps the only modicum of a fine dining restaurant, but was not enough to make the experience enjoyable. Very disappointed with our experience at Spoon.
Restaurant week menu was misrepresented. The server acted surprised when we questioned salmon as opposed to halibut dish that was published. I then over heard the same story at 2 neighboring tables. Chose this menu because of the halibut not the salmon offered every where. Things happen but don’t play bait and switch unless everyone has the same story.
I haven't been to Spoon in a very long time and was disappointed on what I remember. I felt the experience wasn't as good as the first two times I was there. The salmon was overcooked and dry and the food could have been a little more flavorful. The wine was paired well with the meal but overall I wouldn't come back.
Very good restaurant and reasonably priced for what is offered. Food is very good and inventive, but I wouldn’t say there was a “wow” factor. That being said, still one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh.
Restaurant week 3 course meal with dishes of locally-sourced veggies and fruit. Fried squash blossom over heirloom tomatoes and blue cheese soufflé with sliced nectarines and plums were excellent. Main course of chicken breast quarter with fried green tomatoes and sauces was also very good. The other main entree of grilled salmon over beans, with fresh dill and pickled fennel pices was good; however on plate with a thick piece of salmon was undercooked and raw in the center and had to return to the grill. Fresh bread and butter included hot-from-the-oven, flaky chive biscuits along with cornbread muffins and sourdough bread. Dessert was extremely tasty fresh peaches and house-made fennel ice cream with a granola nut crumble topping. Portions were large and doggie bags necessary. Service and wait staff were superb.
Went for restaurant week. Thought overall it was an average meal. Nothing special.
We had a great meal here! Everything we ordered was just perfect, even the drinks! The service was attentive but a little slow at the end. We would highly recommend and will return here next time we’re in Pittsburgh.
We enjoyed ourselves. The food was good, server was friendly, and a nice environment to chat with friends. The drinks took awhile to come out even though it wasn’t very busy, and we didn’t love the suggestion of the drink from server/bartender. Otherwise, nice spot.
Great service! And if you're into seafood, this is the place to be.
Nice spot for a "fancy" dinner (dress code is actually casual). Attentive wait staff and good food (juicy burger, yummy fries, delicious poke). The desserts looked tempting, but we were too full to try any this visit--there's always next time.
Landon was a really great server who took care of my vegetarian request. My Old Fashioned was really great with a lovely orange garnish. My companion loved her entree and we both enjoyed the peach pie.
The food at Spoon was outstanding! We had the Chefs Family Style Dinner which was wonderful. The blue cheese soufflé was amazing, the filet was perfect and the walleye was good as well. Would definitely recommend Spoon to anyone visiting Pittsburgh!
With the culinary scene contunuing to evolve in Pittsburgh, this restaurant was one of the first to blossom and perhaps it might be forgotten by some but it shouldn't be. It has only gotten better and better and chef Brian Pekarcik is absolutely one of the top TOP chefs in the city. A seasonal visit is a must at minimum to Spoon where you will be delighted beyond belief...right now seasonal produce is bursting and the menu reflects the local abundance in Western Pennsylvania beautifully
Always delicious. The staff...bartender Meghan and our waiter, Landon....so charming, so accommodating, and so patient with a party of four made up of folks in their sixties! Thanks vcd so much.
Spoon is my "go to" when we want top quality food, but also some variety. Their chef's tasting is one of the best I've encountered around the city.
If you haven't had it yet, you're missing out. Each time we've ordered it for the table(everyone must participate), we've gotten a fish course and it's amazing how well they prepare it! I've honestly never left there unhappy or unsatisfied.
Try their unique cocktails as well. You won't be disappointed!
Very enjoyable dinner meeting tonight. Service was good. Food was fantastic especially a number of the appetizers. Love the dan dan and tried the crab filled lotus blossoms for the first time.
We have been meaning to get to Spoon for years and for whatever reason never made it. My wife and daughter and I brought my sister here for her birthday tonight.
Everything from the service to the food was delicious. The bread, appetizers and main courses were fantastic. We had the Tortelloni, chicken, steak and pork main courses. All fabulous. Can’t wait to go back!
Food was outstanding and service was on target. Portions were also good and not too large. Would definitely recommend!
We had two guests with dietary restrictions...gluten free and vegetarian. Very sensitive and accommadating...the pasta dish(vegetarian) was short of stellar for the vegetarian...very sparse on filling...but the kitchen was outstanding on providing gluten free options.
And the regular menu was superb as well as the service and sommelier...kudos!
The food was wonderful and the service for the four of us was great. Thanks for a pleasant dinner.
Nice dining experience. The lamb w/ pasta was very good, the pork tenderloin also good. The trout w/ lemon sauce was just bla... too lemony but the dining experience was overall very nice.
Great if you want an upscale but not terribly posh meal. Some of the portions are on the small side, but the quality is excellent!
I reserved a table for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday. We were sat in a cool booth with a great view. The waitress was so kind and helpful. The food was amazing, from the apps to the entree to the dessert. I loved our experience, highly recommend.
Creative delicious menu! Good service and pleasant atmosphere
Food was fantastic! Our waiter was very polite and diligent. The appetizer portions are a bit small, but overall a great experience!
The service once again is the weak point for this place as is the noise level - it is great to have the original features of an interesting space, but the noise is high as a result (not to mention my loud neighbors while dining). But the team stepped up and made up for service by sending in reinforcements to help me. And so overall, the service was better than it has been on previous visits by a lot. And the food was just terrific. Better than ever. My appetizer of a deviled egg and the main of the trout were just perfect. So kudos - i will be back and think that it is just great.
Food was fantastic, atmosphere and decor were very nice. Service was nice and great location, would recommend.
Amazing cocktails selection, creative menu, and excellent service
Very nice. Food was great! Nice server.
Loved it from start to finish! All of the needed accouterments were there. A lovely dining experience and for the quality of the dishes, very reasonable.
The hamburger with spiced french fries was stupendous and the other dishes were excellent!
Seven of us ate there and everyone really enjoyed their food. Staff was very pleasant. Will be returning.
The food and the service were excellent. However the music playing in the background was disappointing. I would have expected something softer light light jazz rather than the pop music that was playing. The music ruined the ambience of the experience. We were celebrating an anniversary.
Great food in a nice, upscale setting. Waiter was extremely courteous, food was appropriately portioned, though the lamb dish could have used a bit more lamb. Place was nearly empty when we went, but I can see how one might need a reservation here.
A really beautifully presented and very flavorful eating experience from a food point of view in a lovely unhurried atmosphere with very attentive service. we will be coming back!
Spoon continues their upward trend of finessing their menu to new heights.
