Spoke & Steele
Private Dining

For New Year’s eve, a bunch of my girlfriends and I, all of us working from out of town, wanted to celebrate the new year somewhere special. I had dined at Spoke and Steele in prior years when visiting Indy, and let me tell you: This did NOT disappoint!! We were given this private, bourbon-barrel-themed room, located downstairs, which was wonderful because the noise level upstairs was quite rowdy and we all wanted more of a sophisticated, chill time. The vibe was fabulous, the ambiance lovely - (we had our own victrola and played records in there, (thanks Stan Getz!)), and had a fabulous time. The biscuits with honey & butter were probably the best I’ve ever had! I would go back just for them and a beer! I chose the salmon in coconut broth, which was delicious!! I thought $16/glass for a Riesling was ridiculous, (& I’m from NYC!), but I had it anyway. Shouldn’t have. However, the ginger beers were refreshing and tasty. Our server was cool and laid back. She said the portions were huge, but none of us in our party thought so. The smashed Yukon golds were a hit! Luscious and indulgent. If you like mustard, go for the Brussels sprouts. All in all, I totally recommend the place and will come back for sure!!
New Year’s Eve at Spoke and Steele was something fun. We don’t normally spend a lot of time in Indy and we wanted to have a quality dinner on New Year’s Eve.
Best dish- Brussel sprout salad.
Worst dish- risotto was very undercooked and crunchy in a pool of liquid sauce.
The staff was friendly and was gracious enough to replace our undercooked risotto with a side of mushrooms which were delightful.
Went for happy hour on Friday and went back for Sunday brunch. Great food and fantastic service. Will go back.
I had really high hopes for Spoke & Steele and they exceeded every expectation. The service was fantastic, the drinks were unique and especially well balanced, and the food was absolutely delicious and perfectly portioned. We’ll definitely be back soon!
Our first visit to Spoke and Steele was very enjoyable. Our server, Brandon, was very professional and knowledgeable. He was also patient and willing to take as long as we wanted between courses. Our entrees were good although the beef and noodles that my wife ordered were a bit salty for her taste. The bread pudding at the end, which is more than enough to share, was superb. We also enjoyed the salads. This is a perfect place to go if you’re in downtown Indy and looking for a quieter, up-scale place to eat.
Loved the charcuterie and drinks! Entrees were just ok.
We had our company holiday dinner there. They did a great job accommodating us and providing for the different needs of each. The scallops were incredible and the Brad (Bread) Pudding was the best I have ever had. Will be coming back!
I wanted this to be outstanding. It wasn't.
The bright spots are Kat (hostess) and the Charcuterie plate. Our server was solid too, sorry I forgot her name. The place looks really nice and everything was comfortable and clean.
On to the downers...the braised beef and noodles was a complete flop. It was unseasoned. The braised beef was underrepresented. The noodles (way wider than they should be( were bland and rubbery. It was also visually unappetizing. It should've been spectacular but it was substandard (neither one of us finished eating it). Oh and charging $120 for a $30 bottle of Rioja is ridiculous...this isn't Manhattan.
Anyway, next time I fly in for a game I'll give it another shot...could've been just an off night.
It was terrible from start to finish. Waste of time and money. Food ya bland, service is awful, etc. DO NOT GO TO THIS DUMP
Our dinner at Spoke and Steele was wonderful. Our server, Mary, was great - very informative since this was our first visit. She recommended the Autumn Sonata cocktail and it did not disappoint. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Old Fashioned. We started with the three item charcuterie board - WOW. The meat and cheeses were quite good but all the additional goodies on the board was a nice surprise. We shared the scallops and couscous (also delicious) which made room for dessert. We ordered the tres leches cake....... again YUM. The fresh whipped cream with candied lemon peel and pickled blueberries was a scrumptious combo. Can't eat to return.
Great ambiance.
It was wonderful.
The only change I would like to see is the addition of a simple steak. Be it a NY/KC strip, filet, or ribeye.
We dined here for my sisters bachelorette party and everything was Perfect! Our waitress was incredible and SUPER knowledgeable of every single dish and drink on the menu. The food was outstanding and I had one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in my life (I don’t remember the name but it was a bourbon drink). Also, the ambiance of this place is incredible!! We loved how it was decorated and it had a lot of cozy spots for cocktails. Thanks for a great experience!
Food was meh. I got the creamy risotto and it was terrible, it was almost a broth and not a great taste. I even asked the server if that was correct, she said yes and walked away even though it was clear I wasn’t excited about it. I didn’t eat any and she didn’t say a word, which was super disappointing. Had several friends get the burger, which was very good. I definitely wouldn’t be back.
From the host with bad breath to being unable to find our waitress to pay our bill it was disappointing. The table was not clean, which I only discovered when I put my arm in a greasy spot left over from previous diners. The waitress took forever to take our order (literally 25 minutes before she came back after dropping off menus), and we had to ask to have our water refilled, TWICE. The chicken I ordered with my salad was forgotten and the salmon my wife got on her salad was cheap farm raised and a very small portion. And then I had to get the bartender to find our waitress just to pay the bill to get out of the place. I won’t be back!
We had a fun birthday lunch! Excellent service from Eric
Great start with drinks and cheese board, delicious but entrees were a disappointment. I kept waiting for the restaurant to fill up on a Friday night and it never did. Scallops were good not great, same with the chicken which made the food value poor given the premium prices. I would go here again for drinks and apps in the future.
We loved our dinner the other night. Great service. Delicious food. Timing was perfect. Never rushed but didn't wait for anything. Very engaging and great food knowledge. Thanks!
This is a really beautiful restaurant but the food quality is garbage. The sauces are bland and the meat quality is mediocre.
If you want to impress someone with a cool place to grab a drink, this is your spot. Otherwise I would recommend dining elsewhere.
The food, the staff, the ambiance (funky/eclectic) of the private dining space...everything was just perfect!!!
Great ambience!
Cool space, great service. The food was good--salmon cooked perfectly but the sides (rice and lentils) were a tad undercooked for my taste. Great for a low-key business dinner.
We had a really great night celebrating my sister's Birthday. The cocktails were great, the setting felt special and lux. The food was phenomenal and the service was stellar. We will be back for sure.
The interior design is really nice. The food was good and service friendly. However, it took a long time for the food to be served.
The food was delicious but the prices were not in keeping with the Market(Indy). The service was an issue at first but then the manager came over and went above and beyond to make things right. Location, Menu and setting were great. If the prices we're a little more reasonable I would say this is a 5 stars!
excellent service and the cheesecake with macaroons dessert she recommended was amazing! A delightful evening......
The burger (made with brisket) was one of the best I've had in Indy.
Enjoyed the birthday celebration. The nugs were a real treat. Service was very good. Ambiance of the old hotel a refreshing break from the frenzy of the downtown right outside the window
Food was very good. Their burger was delicious and we enjoyed the charcuterie board!
Glass of wine was an average of $15..High for my taste (as much as lunch meal or more) Especially if you are footing the bill. Ouch!
Server and service was good!
Amazing brunch! Great service! The biscuits and charcuterie gravy was unusual, flavorful and something everyone should try!
Food? Excellent. Service? The best. A little noisy for us but it’s a popular place.
I was upset to get the untrue notice that I hadn’t shown up for dinner.
We visited Spoke and Steele for a business dinner on Saturday 9/22/18. I had made an initial reservation in the main dining room but then found out through their website that they had private dining rooms. I ended up booking the Barrel Room for our dinner and it turned out to be a fantastic place to have a meal with a small group of colleagues (8 people fit comfortably). The ambience was beautiful and we were able to play our choice of vinyl records, which was a nice touch.
The entire experience was great. Ramona helped me book the room (which only had a minimum for food and beverage, and we were able to order off the regular menu). We were greeted promptly and led down into our room. Our server was very attentive and friendly but not overbearing throughout the dinner.
The food was excellent. We started out with a Full Charcuterie board followed by our main courses. Everybody was pleased with their dishes, which varied from the scallops, salmon, and the braised beef and noodles. The drinks were very good as well. We were quite full by the end of our meal and only shared a few desserts which were good.
While we didn't eat in the main dining room, and in fact I really didn't see the main dining room, our overall experience was very nice and enjoyable, with everybody in the group very satisfied. This was a surprising gem to find in Indianapolis.
Everything about Spoke and Steele was exceptional. Our waitress was very attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu and wines. The food was exceptional...the tastes were memorable. The ambiance was great. I will be back many times.
Brandon was a fantastic waiter! All our food was outstanding. The meatball appetizer and the brick chicken were the highlights!
Excellent experience! Great service! Great food! The custom cocktails are awesome!
My experience was incredible. The food and service exceeded my expectations.
This is a great inventive and delicious eatery. The server was so nice and very efficient. Their cocktails are awesome!
Great location for conferences at the convention center, great brunch. Unfortunately, the service was subpar. We went for an 8:30 business brunch on Saturday (maybe the reason for the bad service), there were three tables there. No host to be found, and the server was running around and honestly could have sat us, but asked us to wait for host. She came 5 minutes later. She was slower than molasses.
It took another long while for our order to be taken.
Food was great, though. Chilaquiles were off the hook.
One thing that really peeves me is when restaurant menus do not display all the ingredients in a menu item. I was unpleasantly surprised when my burger arrived with mayo, pickles, and mustard, all of which I dislike and none of which where listed as being part of the burger. I'm sure the burger would have been delicious had it not been ruined by something as silly as not including the ingredients in the description.
