Splendido is a fine dining restaurant that gives guests a taste of upscale eating and a chance to try many uniquely creative menu items. The dining area is comfortably understated, with an intimate and enjoyable atmosphere that helps encourage good conversation. Guests at Splendido get the full experience of fine dining with an excellent alcoholic beverage list and constantly changing menus.
At Splendido, guests can choose from multiple menus each night, based on how many courses they want to have that night. Menu items change every day, with new recipes and unique dishes popping up all the time. Guests can also enjoy carefully selected wine pairings for each dish upon request.
Surprised my wife with dinner on our anniversary. The whole experience was amazing. Would recommend it, but it is now closed. Great dinner to send off one of my favorite food experience choices in the city. We mill miss you.
Chef Berry seemed not interested at all to talk with us. Even Michelin 3 stars chefs that I have met spent more time greeting me than Victor Berry.
Incredible tasting menu, impeccable service
The service and the ambiance of Splendido are excellent but the tasting menu is way too overpriced especially when you add in the wine pairing option. The food was delicious but I have dined at many fine restaurants, some with Michelin stars that were either comparable or perhaps better and paid less, in some cases significantly less. The quality of the ingredient is great but some of the courses were a bit stingy. One of the courses in particular was the slow spiced roasted carrot. I appreciate that it is slow roasted and turned for 5 hours but at the price I'm paying I would expect more than a single carrot. My biggest complaint is the wine pairing, with emphasis on the "wine". Including a beer for 2 courses as one of the pairings seems to be a bit of a gouge. Sake for 3 courses also seemed to me to be a bit cheeky. Only one red of reasonably good quality but still as far as Burgundy's go was very average. It sort of felt like getting the last of the milk out of the cow before it goes off to pasture.
Splendido is the best fine dining I have tried in Toronto. All my other favourites are in Quebec. The chef is very creative, the taste of each dish is very flavourful and interesting. The entire experience is full of surprises. It is very sad that this restaurant is coming to an end, but I believe the new one will be more affordable yet good quality as always.
Excellent food but wine pairings are disappointing.
When Spendido closes, Toronto's food scene will have lost a true star. Book your Splendido experience now before they close!
Service was slow and food was just too fancy. Used the best Ingredients (like caviar, truffle, foie gras, uni ) but with the extra fluff, killed the flavor. Wine pairing should only have wine and not beer and sake.
12 course meal at $180 was reasonable; just too bad it wasn't my taste.
As Splendido is closing by year end, we decided to jump on the opportunity to dine before it wasn't around anymore. We enjoyed the 12 course tasting menu which was really fabulous. The service was also top notch. My only disappointment was the last savoury course - 85 day aged Cumbrae Farms steak (can't remember the cut). The texture was just not great. A bit dry and gritty, although cooked very well. It definitely wasn't the best end to a phenomenal meal and certainly not a great promotion for Cumbrea Farms. After the prior 9 courses, it just really fell short. I wish I could have had 6 more of the egg yolk ravioli and the mushroom dish was also to die for.
A wonderful dinner to remember. Thank you Chef Barry for a truly special night.
Splendido's tasting menu was varied and interesting, and the beverage pairings, for the most part, were excellent matches to the food. Generally, the food was also delicious. The service was fairly prompt and attentive, but not to the level I would expect from a restaurant that wishes to compete in the premium fine-dining category. Mistakes on the wine list were also somewhat embarrassing for a restaurant of this caliber.
The biggest problem with Splendido is value. My partner and I have tried tasting menus at many of Toronto's best restaurants, and on several occasions, the food and service were better. On all occasions, the cost of the meal and beverage pairings were lower.
Did I enjoy Splendido? Yes. Did I enjoy it as much as other Toronto tasting menu restaurants? No. There are better tasting menus available in Toronto for 50% of the price of eating at Splendido.
My husband & I were planning a celebration date night and had heard such good reviews of the restaurant. The ambiance was nice and the service was very good; however, the food did not live up to our expectations. Out of the 14 courses (term a bit deceiving- canapé or spoon sized "courses") of the tasting menu, only 4 courses lived up to the reviews that we had read. The wine pairings were served for 3-4 courses per tasting. Dinner cost for 2 - $625.
Fantastic food and knowledggeable staff. Server could have ben a tad more friendly.
I've worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years, mainly as a chef and currently as an instructor. I can say with confidence that Splendido has a team of highly-trained, experienced professionals working together in perfect harmony.
There were at least a dozen special little touches that made the experience memorable.
The service was impeccable without a trace of pretension. Our main server had just the right amount of humour and professionalism to make us feel comfortable and well-looked after.
On to the food: I have never had an experience like this. Over 18 courses of the most exquisitely presented, delectable flavour combinations I've ever seen or tasted. The seasoning of every dish was masterful. The plating was so gorgeous, that I wished the lighting was just a tiny bit brighter so I could see my food more easily. The creativity of the chef was admirable and inspiring.
When I made the reservation, I mentioned that I was celebrating my birthday and I was delighted when they brought me a card and a tiny piece of cake with a birthday candle. It was a thoughtful touch that I won't forget.
I asked for a copy of the menu and it was provided for us as we were leaving -- neatly folded and in an envelope on a white tray with two little boxes of miniature cookies to take home.
There were only one or two points on which I would be critical, but by no means detracted from my enjoyment. Firstly, we both found the menu to be very heavy on seafood. That wasn't a big problem as we both like seafood, but I really would have loved to have tried more meat dishes. I felt that one or two of the dishes
could have been a bit more substantial. I understand that in a 18+ course meal, the portions need to be small, but to me, there should have at least been one main course sized plate for a menu of $180.
Overall, the staff at Splendido do a magnificent job, and I would rate it the best restaurant that I have ever had the pleasure of eating at. I would definitely return.
Splendido offers a fantastic dining experience with a different, varied and exciting menu with a truly differentiated customer experience and service. From the moment you walk in you realise that you are in for a great evening...the complimentary sparkling wine on arrival is a nice touch and sets the tone for the tasting menu ahead. The food offers some great combinations with a very varied set of ingredients which you can also chose to wine pair. There are a few surprises along the way which I won't spoil. Needless to say, well worth a visit.
The best word to describe Splendido is "polished". From the warm greeting, to the incredibly polished service, to the incredible taste experience and quality of the food - the staff of Splendido execute perfectly. Even the occasional whiff of wood smoke from their green egg smoker adds a hugely satisfying component to the overall experience.
Put yourself into the chef's hands and enjoy the ride!
Splendido is truly deserving of its top ten restaurants in Canada rating. The only improvement I can think of would be for Splendido to bring back their valet service.
Brilliant service, beautiful room. Dinner for two for a 15-course chef's tasting menu that is far too heavy on tiny seafood portions to justify the cost. Several courses went un-eaten, as the courses too often hammer with unappetizing heaviness: extreme over-flavouring, over-sauced, over-salted -- over-rich across the board. Complete lack of subtlety. Three hours of eating these micro-portions, and almost $500 later, yet we stopped for a snack on the way home. Big letdown. Oh and we were charged $12 for the "still" water. Please tell your guests when you plan to charge them for the water.
From a prespective of fine dining.... its pretty much a ten out of ten. How was the over-all dining and presentation. Well... impressed, without a question. From my humble opinion, from one who dines' twice weekly, at most 4-5 starred rest., across the country. My wife & I ...where quite taken by service / style , not to mention the ambience. Nice location, friendly sommelier Tony, was quick witted and enlightening. Cheers to the staff, and thank you for the "Relic" from the westcoast...
First time to Splendido
Definitely not what i expected
Ambience and look of the restaurant was nice
Food and service left a lot to be desired
I found flavour bland
Left there hungry
Very overpriced !!!
Staff other then host were arrogant and unhospitable
This restaurant is simply a must try for anybody who is not afraid to try new things and who can truly appreciate great food. The experience takes 3 to 4 hours so it is basically a night out on its own. It is not cheap but the quality of the food and service make the price tag worth it. A very romantic night out. Do yourself a favour and go for it!
