Splashes at Surf & Sand Resort Ratings and Reviews
Splashes is a great dinner date and the the bar before or after is very nice as well. Right on the beach and the food and service are OUTSTANDING! Phillip was our waiter and he was very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list as well as being Cery attentive!
Great evening with my wife celebrating her birthday!
Beautiful setting & the food was very good although every thing is a la carte. The view is the best thing about the restaurant. Service was a little lacking for the price of the dinner. I expected better service for what we paid. We splurged for a special occasion. Prices, we felt were over the top for the amount of food and service received!
Location was spectacular! Where we were conversation was difficult with the sound of the surf right outside the open windows.
Food was bordering on excellent; fish a bit overdone but great flavors. Service was good, and consistent with a very busy restaurant.
Everything was wonderful, especially your staff. My only two complaints are that it was too dark! I do like seeing what I'm eating! A bigger candle on the table would probably do the trick. I had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. However, the asparagus tips on which they were placed were inedible (tough and stringy). The lobster bisque was outstanding.
Always a favorite spot to entertain my land locked friends. Our lower level table made them feel like they were in the surf! Service was a bit slow today but our food was excellent. One guest was very gluten intolerant and was happy to see several tasty options. I got the lobster salad on a croissant that was the special, very flavorful and plenty of lobster chunks!
Tables are so tightly packed it is difficult to get in or out. The initial service was terrible- it took
30 minutes for us to get our appetizers but improved after we said something. Food was good but portions are appetizer size and not entrée. For the price you pay to see the ocean, we would have expected a little better all around meal.
We are very comfortable in fine dining establishments and looked forward to celebrating our anniversary weekend night at Splashes. Our table was not ready for our reservation time when we arrived so we sat at the bar for 30 minutes and had a cocktail. When we finally did sit down the room was really loud... we could hear detailed conversations from across the room, our table was dark (not romantic - just not lit ) and the prices were outrageous $40s for several main dishes. Note that we were staying at the Montage (5 star resort) so it wasn't the prices as much as the value since now our expectations were quite high. My spare ribs were too rich and over the top with flavor ... to be fair my husband loved his filet. The wine selection was weak and to expensive so we ordered a bottle of wine just to get some value- many wines by teh glass were $20 . We lived in south OC 20 years ago and I recall a meal at Splashes was special. I recommend yoy just go tothe bar and enjoy a drink, appetizers .... leave the dining to tourists who are willing to overpay for mediocre food.
Took my Fiancee there after I proposed to her from out blacony view at the surf and sand resort. The food and service was absolutely superb. The views of the ocean accompanied by the most beautiful sunset was perfect. If you get the chance we definitely recommend Splashes!
The only problem we encountered was the large, loud group next to us. Our table were also too close together and there was bumping of my chair as they sat down, so my friend and I physically moved our table further away so we had more room and the noise was more tolerable. We were very happy when they left. Otherwise, we had a very fun time.
Fabulous atmosphere, we often forget there is a place just yards from the beach surf...the weather was perfect for an outside table in the evening with heat lamps if anyone needs them. The glass partition wall actually is a good sound barrier so the waves aren’t too loud for conversation. Our server Kyle was great and very attentive. Five stars all the way.
Outdoor dining ambience...really poor! Cramped walkway up against a concrete wall.
Waiters and patrons had to squeeze by table. No privacy....Small cheap looking tables with no table cloth or placemats. Best part of meal was the ocean view. Wine list was inaccurate.
No way this is a 5 Star place...
Lovely setting, just amazing to sit close by the beach watching the waves ...
It was my daughters birthday.
She had the best meal, Duck, which was cooked to perfection so tender and tasty!
And they served her a lovely crème brulée
with a lit candle by surprise very kind of them. Great staff.
This is by far one od the most aqeso.e restaurants I have ever been to. The ambiance with being on the water is amazing. Food was outstanding, wine list plentiful and service incredible. This was a recommendation by another server in Newport Beach and she was spot on. Will be back again next time in the area.
I love, love, love Splashes! No better ocean views anywhere, even at night because they light the beach! Food was excellent, as was the service. (It's rare to have a restaurant with this good of food right on the beach!). This is the perfect destination any time of day.
The foods were at ok level. Not too good; Not too bad.
The waiter accidentally spilled a drink on my friend. They didn't do anything at the beginning. Although the waiter and manager said sorry to my friend later on, verbal apologies couldn't help my friend’s feeling, especially when she was in a wet sticky dress.
They promised to offer her free meal, but she still paid her drink at the end.
Besides this accident, the outdoor umbrella fell down, making loud noise. It was lucky that nobody was around and got hurt. Still, it made our feeling even worse.
We won't go there again and strongly won't recommend our friends for sure.
I am disappointed that the preparation of our entrees fell far short for the prices charged. My swordfish portion was exceptionally small and the accompanying vegetables were “off” and unedible. This serving was by no means a full serving and more akin to a “small plate” portion that would be offered at other restaurants in Laguna. Our shishito pepper appetizer was flavorless and under cooked. Our seating space was very cramped and in the servers traffic lane making a peaceful anniversary dinner difficult to enjoy. The only thing that kept us at the table was the attentive server. It’s too bad he was not in the kitchen. I venture to say our meals may have been prepared better. We have lived and dined in Laguna Beach for nearly 50 years, it is likely we will not return. $160.00 for a dinner for two is better spent elsewhere.
The food was as always delicious. The cappuccinos were not as good as I had before.
One issue was in the bar downstairs my gf, my mother, my aunt and myself ordered a few drinks, my gf who is 34 was asked for ID. Now my gf had her car / purse stolen and didn't have any ID. She was told she couldn't be served alcohol, not a good end to the evening
The staff (hostess and waiter) were very attentive and friendly. In regards to dinner, I had the branzino which was a little fishy and bland tasting. Jon had the Halibut and he said his fish was very dry and also bland. I guess we expected more from the food especially at the price point. When I talked to my other boss, he said the food has gone down hill in the last few years. The reason we go is for the view and it is not terrible just not at the caliber we think the food should be. I hope this is helpful. Thank you.
Fantastic experience. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and our server, Phillip really made our night special. Our only knock would be on the hostess. She sat us near a screaming toddler for our special night. She acted like she really didn’t care. She was sitting at the podium on her cell phone and nibbling on something. Phillip moved us to a more suitable table. He paid our every need and took such great care of us. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass special and the Salmon. Both were cooked to perfection. Thank you zphillip and Splashes for making our night special!
