Splashes at Surf & Sand Resort Ratings and Reviews
Super service for Birthday celebration.
We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and this was the first time we had dined at the restaurant, though we have been to Splashes bar many times. Patrick, our server, was genuinely friendly and personable, and provided great service and suggestions-- truly enhanced our dining experience. The three of us split the Caesar salad which was enough for all We then ordered the swordfish special, the short ribs and the goat cheese gnocchi. All were prepared with a twist to varying degrees of satisfaction. I have never had gnocchi prepared this way--the unusual ingredients presented in a bowl combination. My husband's short ribs were tender and tasty but the pairing with couscous just was not his preference. And my daughter also liked her swordfish special but found the ingredients somewhat different than she was anticipating as well. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for us but I think diners should expect to receive nontrafionally prepared meals.
Table that they sat us at was extremely Dark. Had Trouble reading menu and also even seeing the food on the plates served
Food was very Good and Service was good.
Restrooms were wet and sandy from Beach using the restroom.
Hotel is old and one elevator was out of order. Hallway from elevator to Restaurant in need of painting and Fixtures
Very humble experience with my wife. Food was delicious, savory and reasonably priced. The service was exceptional. My wife was very pleased spending her birthday for brunch at Splashes. We will definitely return for the wonderful view of the beach. The sound of the waves crashing was so relaxing I could've took a nap at the table.
Anniversary diner while watching the surf, it was a very quiet evening with few tables occupied. They have a new menu and we tried the fried octopus which was a delicious starter. I ordered the short ribs which came out so dry and tasteless that I refused them and sent them back. Switching them out for the scallops like my spouse ordered, and they were fantastic. Manager also comped another round of cocktails for us, so they did the right thing. However, waiter was seldom seen and MIA most of the diner.
This was my first time here. I was seated promptly. The breakfast burrito I had was really tasty. And I loved the spicy salsa that came with it. The gorgeous view can not be beat. The service was a little slower than I would have liked but the busboy took good care of me and kept my glass full. I am looking forward to my next visit
Usually love it here. One of our first choices. Love the chef. But today something happened. It was a special occasion. We had 2 children with us. One very-we’ll behaves 5-year old and a 17-month old. He fussed a little, but normal. The service was horrible. Sooo slow. The waiter missed several items we asked for, delivering a Bloody Mary at the very end, which had to be sucked down in order not to waste the $15, and because it took us over 2 hours to get and eat lunch the kids were getting restless -we had to go! Will always go back but likely for dinner only. Lunch wasn’t a 5 star performance like dinner usually is.
Splashes is a great dinner date and the the bar before or after is very nice as well. Right on the beach and the food and service are OUTSTANDING! Phillip was our waiter and he was very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list as well as being Cery attentive!
Great evening with my wife celebrating her birthday!
Beautiful setting & the food was very good although every thing is a la carte. The view is the best thing about the restaurant. Service was a little lacking for the price of the dinner. I expected better service for what we paid. We splurged for a special occasion. Prices, we felt were over the top for the amount of food and service received!
Location was spectacular! Where we were conversation was difficult with the sound of the surf right outside the open windows.
Food was bordering on excellent; fish a bit overdone but great flavors. Service was good, and consistent with a very busy restaurant.
Everything was wonderful, especially your staff. My only two complaints are that it was too dark! I do like seeing what I'm eating! A bigger candle on the table would probably do the trick. I had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. However, the asparagus tips on which they were placed were inedible (tough and stringy). The lobster bisque was outstanding.
Always a favorite spot to entertain my land locked friends. Our lower level table made them feel like they were in the surf! Service was a bit slow today but our food was excellent. One guest was very gluten intolerant and was happy to see several tasty options. I got the lobster salad on a croissant that was the special, very flavorful and plenty of lobster chunks!
Tables are so tightly packed it is difficult to get in or out. The initial service was terrible- it took
30 minutes for us to get our appetizers but improved after we said something. Food was good but portions are appetizer size and not entrée. For the price you pay to see the ocean, we would have expected a little better all around meal.
We are very comfortable in fine dining establishments and looked forward to celebrating our anniversary weekend night at Splashes. Our table was not ready for our reservation time when we arrived so we sat at the bar for 30 minutes and had a cocktail. When we finally did sit down the room was really loud... we could hear detailed conversations from across the room, our table was dark (not romantic - just not lit ) and the prices were outrageous $40s for several main dishes. Note that we were staying at the Montage (5 star resort) so it wasn't the prices as much as the value since now our expectations were quite high. My spare ribs were too rich and over the top with flavor ... to be fair my husband loved his filet. The wine selection was weak and to expensive so we ordered a bottle of wine just to get some value- many wines by teh glass were $20 . We lived in south OC 20 years ago and I recall a meal at Splashes was special. I recommend yoy just go tothe bar and enjoy a drink, appetizers .... leave the dining to tourists who are willing to overpay for mediocre food.
Took my Fiancee there after I proposed to her from out blacony view at the surf and sand resort. The food and service was absolutely superb. The views of the ocean accompanied by the most beautiful sunset was perfect. If you get the chance we definitely recommend Splashes!
The only problem we encountered was the large, loud group next to us. Our table were also too close together and there was bumping of my chair as they sat down, so my friend and I physically moved our table further away so we had more room and the noise was more tolerable. We were very happy when they left. Otherwise, we had a very fun time.
Fabulous atmosphere, we often forget there is a place just yards from the beach surf...the weather was perfect for an outside table in the evening with heat lamps if anyone needs them. The glass partition wall actually is a good sound barrier so the waves aren’t too loud for conversation. Our server Kyle was great and very attentive. Five stars all the way.
