Spin a Yarn Ratings and Reviews
We went for Sunday Brunch - it was a busy day with a number of large groups - we had made a reservation and as we arrived early - we actually were seated before our reservation time.
Staff made every effort to make our Brunch perfect.
We'll be back - just wish they had hashed browns instead of the breakfast potatoes..
We are from the Warm Springs area, and have spent many a special occasion at the Spin A Yarn...since the 1960s! It is our favorite place to celebrate, and also just come for a nice evening.
The last several times we have had the same waiter. I wish I remembered his name! He has been a pleasure every time!
My husband & I came there for my birthday & I was very disappointed. The service was fantastic & the restaurant & table were great. But I'm not well so I don't get out much & was really looking forward to a prime rib dinner.
However your web site failed to mentioned that prime rib is served only after 5 PM & we were there @ 3 PM because I can't endure crowds.
SO...no prime rib dinner & I had to settle for the prime rib steak which cost way to much! $45.00 for a steak is crazy as far as I'm concerned! It really upset me because we are not rich & that's just sick. It was even more then the prime rib dinner! WHY?
Needless to say I won't go back.
I can buy a 6 lb. prime rib with 4 side dishes & a weeks grocery on the $160 we spent on that dinner! Never again!
I'm sorry but I feel every ripped off & I was so disappointed that I told my husband this will never happen again.
Your web site needs to be revised & where you list the prime rib dinner....make sure you put an astrick (*) & say..."Served after 5 PM " Then people will know! I did not know or I would have set a later time for our dinner or gone elsewhere!
So, I hope this helps you realize your prices are way too high & you should have senior discounts & revise your web site! OK?

Spin A Yarn has a great price point and a variety of food options offered for their Sunday Brunch. The price point is excellent! I was there a week ago and the food and service was great when my friend and I celebrated our joint birthdays. I came back a week later and noticed for the second week in a row that my food was cold, even though I got it from the steaming trays, especially the scrambled eggs which were cold two weeks in a row. The service wasn't as good the second week since we had no consistent food server, so we kept asking whoever we saw so we could get what we needed. In spite of the inconsistent service and cold scrambled eggs, I would come to the Sunday Brunch again at Spin a Yarn.
Enjoyed our meal there.. Great drinks, Prime Rib and Halibut.. Our waiter Keith was funny but professional. Saki, the owner bought us an after dinner drink which was much appreciated. You do not find that happening in other fine restaurants in Fremont. We will be returning.
I asked the hostess for the Wifi password and she said she'd get it for me. When I noticed she went back to the hostess stand and did not return to give me the password, I got up and got the code from the guy behind the bar. The hostess should either know the Wifi password or find out what it is and let the customer requesting it know what it is. The food for the Sunday Brunch was good, there were lots of food choices, and the price was fantastic. I will return to Spin A Yarn to go to their Sunday Brunch again in the future. I also liked the mimosas served generously in a wine glass versus a champagne flute.
Seated promptly. House salad was excellent. My petrale sole came with a lemon caper sauce that overwhelmed the delicate fish. I was not offered a choice of sides and while the rice was great I can't stand kale. Next time I will ask that the fish be prepared sautéed or baked.
Very nice people but the food that I had wasn't good. I ordered seafood pasta. The seafood doesn't taste fresh. I think the chief forgot to add salt too. This was not expected from such a restaurant. I probably will still go there for the location and quiet environment for meetings. But I will not order seafood again.
I had the T-bone, she had the Cioppino, and both of us very much enjoyed our meals. To be honest, we were somewhat expecting something a bit stuffier, "grandma and grandpa food", but were pleasantly surprised. Their use of roasted garlic, very fresh ingredients, and a pleasant amount of spice was definitely well executed. Rare means rare: my steak was thoroughly seared but still retained a healthy amount of cool red center. The Cioppino seafood was all very fresh. Every request was met and executed with class. Not just for client or family dinners: this is a great date night spot, too.
It was overly priced. I didn't feel the food reflex what I was paying. I didn't appreciate they wrote in the tip for a party of 5. And I was never informed it would automatically be written. I don't like the fact that you don't have the option to order from the menu. The only option was Sunday brunch buffet. I have been to other establishment where hey give you a choice.
Spin a Yarn has been the go-to location for business meals for our company for over 15 years. The food is always excellent; the service is attentive but not overbearing; the location offers private rooms for larger groups; and the management is clearly focused on providing an excellent dining experience. This is my first review only because this is the first time I used Open Table to make a reservation. When I am in town, I generally have two to three business meals there every week.
One other thought for local businesses: Spin A Yard offers an excellent catering menu for business events on site in the area. We have used them often for groups from 50-250 with great service and wonderful food.
The dinner was good. The soup and the Caesar salad were delicious, but I was disappointed with the Prime Rib. It was a little tough and gristley. It came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables which were good. We had chocolate moose for dessert which was terrific.
We have been regulars at Spin a Yarn for over 17 years. We have been treated well by the owner and staff most of the time. The owner has even paid for our dinner several times. But the last two special (birthday and Mother's Day) family dinners for a large party were not good. Both times the owner forgot we were supposed to be in a private room, where we are usually seated. This last time we had reservation for 7:00 p.m. in the private room, but he told us the room was not available and we would have to wait for tables to open up. We were finally seated about 8:30 in a dining room surrounded by other guests. The restaurant was very busy and the staff tried hard but service was terrible. It was well after 9:15 before we were served dinner. Staff was busy and unattentive to our table. After being seated we never saw the owner, who in the past would check that our service was good. We have spent thousands of dollars at many large parties for family and friends, groups of 10 to 25 people. This last time was a very bad experience. We felt we were treated like strangers and were under appreciated. Not sure when (or if) we will return.
The price is right for the quality of the meats. The selection is really good for steak lovers. The prime rib was literally flawless. The filet mignon was also spot on. Everything was perfectly prepared. There was a group of 5 in the restaurant that were loud and rude but management shut them down swiftly the moment we complained. Plenty of people were affected by them. The atmosphere is quaint so it can get really loud.
What a nice place! Good food and friendly waiters will to accommodate you with special requests. The menu is simple but good with a variety of options. I had the albondigas soup which was delicious. The little meatballs were juicy and tender not hard like you get in many soups. The broth and vegetables in the soup were fresh and tasty not like it had been on the back burner for 2 days.
I love their Shrimp Louie which is one of the reasons I go here. This salad is a great classic that many restaurants no longer offer. Theirs is the traditional with the hard boiled egg and pickled beets with a quarter avocado. Light and so good! The shrimp are always fresh and tasty. Luv it!
This is a wonderful place to dine when not in the mood for chain restaurants. We had Mom's memorial reception here and Saki was so compassionate. We've also attendded a weddig reception here, too. Food is always great and the wait staff always cordial and attentive. Today's Sunday brunch was yummy! Basic brunch items, but delicious and quiet.
