Spike 'n Rail Steak House
The food was surprisingly excellent! Much better than most places in LA.
It's kind of sad to see the creativity and quality of the food go down over the years. People go there because it's convenient, not so much because the food is exceptional. I think they could do more to be more innovative and re-vive the glamour of the "swan" hotel and restaurant.
Great spot in Selma! Their steak is REALLY good - it was Cattleman's. I would definitely come and eat here again and recommend this restaurant to anyone in the neighborhood or even passing through.
The service was very poor and I took forever to get my water I ordered before food and got it after I got my food after asking a 2nd time. The food was bland and the only flavor was Smoke on a dish that was not supposed to be smoked meat. I was highly disappointed! I will not be returning! This place was saus to be "amazing" but I was far from.
No service 30 min wait to order food over priced wine old never again.!
I've had good experiences with Selma Spike 'n Rail in the past, including holiday buffets (Easter, mother's day). But things fell apart for them on Valentines Day 2019. They lost their OpenTable reservations. We were seated anyway, but there was a long delay before our order was taken. Based on what we saw and heard around us, others exprienced long delays, some dishes were coming out with only part of what was on the menu, and some items were poorly prepared. The servers seemed to be coping with a bad situation by avoiding the diners. An hour after our order, we cancelled and left. I hope they can come back to what they were but, at this time, I am hesitant to make reservation their and would recommend them only with strict caveats.
We came in a large group, some people a little late. The waitress was very polite when asking if we wanted to wait or order, even when the remaining folks showed up. The food was subpar to say the least. Over half of the food ordered was inedible fat. Overall, it was not worth $16 for a sandwich that got tossed out. For a steakhouse, they had very little steak options which was very upsetting. Will be going to Cattleman’s next time.
We were seated at 2 round tables pushed together and one of the table was extremely off balance. A couple of times our drinks spilled over. When we received our food most of us had a side order of steamed vegetables . Unfortunately they were still raw and cold. The steak and chicken were badly burnt. I could overlook one order being poor but not most of our party of 9. The only one who was happy was my son who had a hamburger.
Prime rib was only warm and a little tough. Portion was good. Next time I would try the rib eye.
