SPICE XING Ratings and Reviews
Very nice restaurant and ambiance, tasty food. Went because of happy hour sign outside, but no one explained that happy hour deals were only at the bar. We eventually moved to the bar, but only after ordering beer that was not eligible for happy hour pricing. Would be good if staff asked and explained the options before seating. Nice place, reasonable and good food -- so I plan to return.
We really enjoyed this Indian Restaurant....Great find in Rockville town center. It is a little remote but close to C parking. The food was great and the service even better. They also have a great drink selection. If you like Indian food, this is definitely a restaurant to try.
WE like Spice Xing ---We were there early (7) on New Years Eve --The food and service were excellent --The french slyle scallops were geat ---Only problem we had was the ambiance of the restaurant ---The lights were quite bright and there was just not a good feel to the restaurant . We will certainly return and hope , since it will not be New Years Eve ,it has a better feel to it --
The service was very attentive and efficient. We split paneer makini and garlic naan. It was plenty for the two of us (we are light eaters). The server brought us two plates with the sides split for us. Very nice service! The food had excellent flavor although it could have been a little spicier for me (I like my Indian food spicy). The atmosphere was lovely and romantic. Highly recommended!
My wife and I were looking for Indian cuisine before a musical program nearby and were expecting the usual Indian menu. Instead we experienced a lovely appetizer and two dishes we had not tried before. The level of spice and heat was just right. This is a good Indian chef that is going beyond the stereotypical menu. The atmosphere was clean and modern but not all that "cozy" - with a little effort they could add some "romance" to the feel of the place.
What a disappointment!! Never would go back as this doesn't come close to its sister restaurant Passage to India. We arrived at 1835 hours and no one came to say anything, like 'would like something to drink?' until 1850 hours!!! We ordered and ordered Kulcha....we waited for our meal and assumed the bread would come out first. Didn't happen until my wife got the attention of whom we assume was the manager and asked if we could get our bread.. We waited until 1920 hours for our main course and actually the food was delicious. However, the service was beyond terrible.....not diner-friendly!!!
Spice Xing was very good in all respects. We are picky about Indian food and the food was definitely above-average. Very nice ambiance. We were there on a Friday night and surprised it was not more crowded, but it was nice and quiet. I suspect it would be noisier if full. The service was excellent as well.
Spice xing is my favorite place in the Rockville town square. Good food, good service and a friendly atmosphere. Try the tamarind margarita. Outstanding. The food is very good and quite the variety. Something for everyone, my vegan daughter loves the eggplant pyramid, I love the lamb dish choices and the naan is very good. Fun place to have a good meal.
We were enjoying the delicious food that had just come out when the fire alarm went off. It went off for about 10 minutes. We had to leave and go outside . My daughter has a broken leg and is on crutches. It was very difficult for her to get up and hurry outside. When We came back in,no one in the restaurant came over to check on us- not to offer to heat the food up or even apologize to my daughter . I was disappointed in the management for that. If Our meal wasn't interrupted the experience would have even been better.
There are several $9.95 luncheon specials, one of them lamb vindaloo. Not only was it a very good value, but it was very flavorful. Unfortunately, the wines by the glass are coarse and not a good value at $8.00. Consideration should be given to offering better wines at $9.00 a glass--something that several other area restaurants do. The ambiance is unappealing, but the service is friendly.
We found the food to be fresh and well-prepared, and the ambience and the customer service to be lovely. We ordered the Spinach and Cottage Cheese dip and the Baby Dosa (a potato-filled pancake) to start. Delicious. Big portions! For the main courses we shared Malbari Chicken, Khandari Lamb and Cucumber Raita. Again, large portions (we took home quite a bit of food) and we thought both were nicely prepared. A bit of heat (but not too much for my plebian palate-lol) and excellent rice. The tiny serving of string beans on the side was sort of uneventful- maybe it was the strong flavor of the other food but it didn't really taste like anything to me. Everything else quite delicious and they kept our water glasses filled, a definite plus for the spicy food. No dessert- too full!
The ambiance and service at Spice Xing don't come up to the level of its sibling in Bethesda, but the food does. Whether it is a chicken appetizer or an okra vegetarian entree, the ingredients are very good and very well prepared. The wine list is short, but well chosen and reasonably priced.
I really enjoy Spice Xing. Good service, good food and interesting drinks. I had the tamarind martini (which tastes like an apple cider martini) and then had the samosas for an appetizer. Had dinner with friends so we shared tandoori chicken, paneer (cheese in tomato sauce), a lamb dish and garlic naan. All was excellent.
If you are in the Rockville Town Square, give Spice Xing a try.
