Spice - Union Square
Spiese was a nice warm place on a cold day. I thought the food would be spicy, which I don’t care for, but it wasn’t! The food was delicious with out being spicy.
Had to wait about 10-15min even though I made a reservation and was put in a table by the door (on a freezing night) so it made dinner uncomfortable. But the food and drinks are absolutely delicious. If you don’t mind noise definitely request to sit on 2nd floor!
Great experience as usual there.
The food was mediocre. Curry puffs were thick and hard. The service was poor. The restaurant itself was small and I felt we were sharing our table with strangers. This is a good spot for teenagers and college students.
My husband and I have been here several times. Tonight we went for Valentine’s Day and they did a great job getting us seated quickly. This is definitely a high traffic restaurant so the staff ALWAYS seems rushed and it sometimes feels like you’re rushed, which is the one downside. Also, be sure to bring a flashlight if you have a hard time reading menus in the dark. But the food is always great and the drinks are too. Always a pretty solid experience.
Everything was was wonderful but the waitress eve brought back the change . We literally had ask her for the check. she brought the change 3 seconds we waited 20 mins to ask her, it was really good
My poor reviews have nothing to do with the food or service!
I made a reservation for Spice on Feb. 2nd and was really looking forward to it. I spent $30+ dollars on an Uber to get across town in the rain, then when we arrived we find that the restaurant is closed for SuperBowl Sunday. You can imagine our disappointment and frustration. Being from out of state, we found ourselves standing in an unfamiliar area, cold & wet looking for another place to eat.
I don't understand how was I allowed to make a reservation on Open Table when the restaurant was closed. Not sure if this is the restaurant's fault or Open Table's fault, but I'm not happy with either at the moment.
Wonderful place to celebrate a birthday! They brought out a beautiful neon sign while they sang (but just note they charge a fee per head if you bring in your own cake). Loved it and everyone had a blast! They didn't rush us at all, we were there for about two and a half hours! Food is great, cocktail choice is amazing!
Make reservations if your are doing evening dining it cuts the wait time.Overall food was great !
Highly recommend Spice. The food was delicious and quick and friendly service. My lower score on ambience was only because I was hoping to give my daughter and her friends an over the top, trendy, special experience. Otherwise, Spice has a very nice vibe.
Frequent patron there but the servers do bump into you a lot as they work
Convenient Union Square location with a terrific lunch menu
One of my favourite Thai restaurants. The prices are reasonable and a variety of options to order.
It’s very solid, flavorful and quite busy! On the noisy side but who cares?
DO NOT COME HERE. ESPECIALLY FOR A SPECIAL EVENT. THIS IS COMING FROM a NATIVE NEW YORKER. We made a reservation for 10:45 and were 7 minutes late. The restaurant closes at 11:30, the night we went. When we arrived they said they didn't have a table for us. Then when we insisted that it was my birthday and we made a reservation. They then said, "fine. You can eat but only if you know what you want immediately and it's last order because the kitchen needs to close". So we ordered and then later we needed ice, and the waitress didn't like that. Then I wanted to order coconut sticky rice. The waitress then said. No. So it was an awful evening. And It was my birthday. I will never go to the Spice on 14th street again. I will never recommend this restaurant. And I plan on posting to every review site I can to tell people not to go to this restaurant . And to not go because the staff are rude. Including the hostess that did not want to seat us. As well as the staff (including the chef that came out with our food). He was annoyed with us. Even though we never yelled. We never were disrespectful. We didn't curse. We spoke in a conversational tone. Never complained, actually the only time we did was when we complained about wanting to be seated because it was my birthday and we made a reservation. They never checked to see how to see how the food was. Never gave us refills for our water. And didn't ask if we wanted more Thai ice tea. Then we're spraying tables around us, in attempts to urge us to eat faster and leave. Our bill came up to over 130 dollars. It was a waste. We still left over a 20 dollar tip. I'm disappointed. And my party of 6 people were disappointed. The food was okay. But I will never eat there again. Please make sure a supervisor/ manager knows about the service.
The consistency and value are the key elements that make Spice a hit with me and my friends. It’s our go-to spot when we need to meet up for delicious food that doesn’t break the bank.
Awful from start to finish. Booked for 6:30pm then moved it to an “available” 7pm slot on Open Table due to traffic problems. Arrived, told table would be 5mins or so to get cleared so we had cocktails in bar area, very noisy and a bit cramped but ok....masses of takeaway were being sent out, the young lady acting as maitre’d was having to co-ordinate everything and was doing her best. After 35mins we were told to head upstairs for our table, once up there we were told to wait again which took another 5mins or so while they finally cleared a table. Ordered food, one person wanted another starter dish as her main course which was clearly explained ... then someone arrived with a bill for our cocktails, told we needed to pay that now and not with the food...so I did. Then they came back with the bill and demanded I tip the barman and not wait to tip the whole experience...so I did (even though we only had a cocktail as the table wasn’t ready!). Starters arrived and the person who ordered another for her main got both at same time, these were hot and crispy fritters so asked for them to take away and bring fresh with the mains. Starters were mediocre to poor, very greasy and no Thai freshness to the flavours. Mains arrived a long with the “starter” which was obviously the same plate warmed up again, they hadn’t taken away the starter plates and didn’t bring fresh cutlery, we were having to pass things about and people’s used cutlery ended up on other people’s dishes. The pork belly dish was ok but two spicy duck dishes smelled awful but were dry and tasted of not much...couldn’t eat them....rice was obviously old and reheated. The tables were ridiculously close together and one of us had to move every time someone needed to get past. They removed the duck from the bill but I’m afraid I wouldn’t go back.
We absolutely enjoyed the ambiance and food and drinks. Perfect place after seeing a play at the Public Theater .
Spice has beautiful decor and a casual vibe, and great food and service. Great portions and presentations also.
Great food and amazing music
Quite an extensive menu and accommodating to all of the food preferences, including our vegan!
Drinks were amazing, food was good, service was beyond mediocre.
The food is great and the customer service is amazing. The drinks were great as well. The whole vibe of the restaurant is incredible
The lunch offerings were extensive. It was nice to get a free appetizer -- chose the Tom Yun
Gum soup and it was good. Ordered the dry green curry with shrimp. Lots of shrimp. Definitely a good deal for lunch in the area.
My favorite restaurant for Asian food
I have had better Thai food elsewhere. Service, location and ambiance are good, however.
Good food but kinda chaotic service. Had to ask for plates and flatware.
Went there with a friend for dinner. The service was really good. We got there about 7:05 and happy hour ended at 7. But when the lady came over she was very nice and took our order for last call of happy hour. My friend and I really appreciated that. Food was really good and came out fast. I've been there before and will continue to come back.
Mediocre in every way. Don’t bother
Relocates to more spacious place, it seems to be hip and cool to visit. The meal was still great but in some ways I miss the previous environment. Good for young people.
We were there for reunions. Not all of us arrive at the same time but the hostess was generous to have us seat. After all the parties came, it took about 20 mins for the waitress to come take order. She didn’t repeat the order and ended up brought me the wrong food. The runner came and was trying to help said everything would be fixed. However, when asked for bill, the bill came wrong and it was over charge for food and drink. We were there for happy hour but drinks were charged for the regular price. It was not my first time at this place but now it becomes not my to go place anymore.
A lovely spot for an afterwork meal or celebration - great menu, nice/attentive service and fun decor. A fast favorite.
AC is too strong, freezing in the restaurant. And too noisy.
We arrived early for our reservation and they seated us anyway (plenty of tables), however, at the end of our meal they forced us to leave because other reservations had arrived! Very bad service considering we had made a reservation ourselves!
My review is more informed by the cleanliness in the place. There were bugs flying around, landing on our table and on our food. Between being asked to leave and the bugs, I do not plan on returning.
Very good food and affordable. The service was good and the place was clean.
Went to Spice for the first time for lunch and was very pleased! The lunch menu was reasonably priced and included a complimentary appetizer, which was a nice surprise.
While the Chicken Pad Thai was good, the Spicy Lo Mein was a real winner.
Excellent and quick service. Everyone was very happy with their meals and it was a perfect stop before heading to a Broadway show.
The Restuarant was quaint and quiet. The food was good as well as the service. Drinks were good but the space is very tight for the setting.
The atmosphere is sleek and contemporary. But as is typical in many City restaurants, you sit very close to your dining neighbors. And while some may call it "energetic" the patron noise is very loud. There is a good selection on the menu; the meal was very good; and the service was excellent. The price was moderate for a city restaurant in this location.
