Spiaggia Ratings and Reviews
Impeccable from top to bottom: service, food, and ambiance. It’s not very often one can describe Italian food as surprising, but there were flavors and combinations that were truly surprising and exciting. Everything was clearly prepared with the highest quality ingredients and care. Worth every penny.
Incredible experience. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner and we can say easily say Spiaggia earns all of its accolades. We did three courses (tartare, rissotto, steak, carrots, gnocchi). What sets this food apart is that instead of overwhelming you with overpowering flavors, each dish delivers on on each ingredient but are all elegantly shown. Outstanding service and attentiveness.
Service was great, food delicious. We did the five course tasting menu. Didn’t think every course was 5 Star that is why I gave it a four.
Pasta too salty, trout fabulous, duck amazing, dessert just okay but gelato in replacement was super. Carpaccio could have been great but a ridiculously small amount you could barely taste. Bartender makes a wonderful martini and we would definitely return.
Spiaggia hit a home run !
I took my wife there for her birthday and every minute was special. From the Happy Birthday greeting when we arrived, the pre-dinner drinks with the engaging bartender, the fantastic tasting menu experience, the signed menu by the Chef, and a birthday dessert with a candle.
Every detail made this a wonderful dining experience.
You can get a good meal at a lot of places in this town, but the overall experience that you get at Spiaggia has no equal.
The Italian food was mediocre compared to other good Italian food I’ve had in Chicago and many other cities around the country. The ambience was stuffy. The wines by the glass were $20 or more. The food was very expensive. All of that would’ve been fine if the food was fabulous, but it just wasn’t. This place is overrated.
I had not been to Spiaggia in several years and was really hoping that I would not be disappointed. The space and atmosphere is well known and deservedly revered. The food was absolutely amazing, our waiter was helpful and knowledgable and our sommelier (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) was outstanding, she made our evening so fun and so special. It was a truly memorable evening and I will not wait as long to return again.
For the very expensive pricetag I would have to say Spiaggia was not worth it. Our waiter was beyond pretentious and had zero sense of humor. He finally had another guy take care of us and the 2nd waiter was so nice and fun and WAY better than the 1st waiter. The gnocchi was amazing but everything else unfortunately was just okay. For $100+ a person definitely not worth it. My husband called it a tourist trap... many many better restaurants in the city for way less money.
Was nice but didn't enjoy as much as first visit. Menu was very limited. The tuna appetizer was fantastic but the appetizer two out of four at table had were just ok. Goat had a lot of nice flavors, but wasn't very hot and was presented at one end of plate. For these prices, would be nice to include some interesting side. Wines are Uber expensive as is restaurant in general. Love the atmosphere and view. Only issue with that is that it was so dark at the table, it was difficult to read the menus. We had to use flashlight on phone. Staff was very friendly although server didn't explain much on menu until we asked specific questions. Sommeliers are terrific. Chose because of atmosphere and fact that you can have a conversation without having to shout or go deaf.
I went to Spiaggia because the Obamas' loved the place. I was visiting from WA state. I was impressed by the service, the friendliness of staff and the professionalism. It really was a classy, welcoming place and the drinks and food were outstanding! Highly recommended and extremely full of flavor.
Trip to Chicago to finally see the play "HAMILTON" and were thrilled to discover Spiaggio. Elegant and romantic dining experience. Wonderful wait staff with great recommendations for both food and wine for an upscale Italian dining experience. Small, delicious portions of exquisitely prepared unique dishes, topped off with a uniquely prepared Tiramisu. Perfect night even at its premium price. Great evening all around.
Celebrated our 30th Anniversary at Spiaggia. They actually had a little anniversary card for us when we were seated...very nice touch. We each went with the three course option. Everything was delicious. Even the complimentary bread was fantastic. Served with ricotta with lemon and honey that was absolutely addictive. Had the Carne Cruda which was unusual and very tasty. Totellini with pesto was very good, but not special. Risotto with pork belly was phenomenal. Very different from any other risotto I've tasted. Pork belly was nice and crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. Lamb loin was slightly dry but extremely flavorful. We really enjoyed everything thoroughly.
The service was exceptional. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They were always there to answer questions, clean the table between each course, take drink orders and pour drinks, etc. We had never been to a restaurant with level of service.
All in all it was a great night. It is very pricey, but was worth it for such a special occasion.
