Two words, a mess.
The Ceasar's salad was absolutely extremely acid, and the corrected version was just bearable. The filet Mignon was ordered medium and was delivered rrr, the pepper sauce was "Where is the pepper?", the sautéed mushroom lacked any flavors, the pork chop was unevenly cook and besides charged had no flavor at all.
A total waste of money.
We celebrated my husband's birthday there and were very pleased with all our meals. The lamb chops were delicious, as were the filet mignons. I was only unimpressed with how the server asked about the water choices we liked. He didn't confirm our choices and ended up serving all three options..sparkling, bottled AND tap?!...charging us more than we prefered. Aside from that, we had a nice dinner.
Though the are renovating the Hotel, the food makes it all worthwhile. Edgar was our server, very polite and prompt in his delivery. He had great recommendations and was easy to waive down when needed (hardly).
Therese the Host was very welcoming and excited to sit us. She made small talk to break the ice and also offered some recommendations.
Food was incredible as always (my company and I both had the Rib Eye). Great steak and the accompaniments were tasty.
Overall, i plan on coming back! great place, can't wait for the renovation to be completed though.
The hotel is undergoing renovation so you will need to bear with the hanging plastic sheets which have been put in place to protect guests from dust etc during renovation. The restaurant itself is not affected jut the entrance to the hotel and the path leading to the Restaurant. If you can overlook this inconvenience , you can enjoy a nice meal in a quiet surrounding with top class service.
Spencer’s is considered a pretty upscale place to dine, so there are expectations for nice ambience, great quality of food, and efficient staff. My previous experiences at Spencer’s was great, had a pretty attentive staff and served us in a timely manner.
However... after today’s visit, I am just horrified with the service that I will not go back there again.
- Table setup: we were a party of 3 at a table for 4, failed to take away the extra set which left us with limited table space
- Mediocre food: Mashed potatoes were clearly sitting out because it hardened
- Horrible Service: Waiting for our waiter (or any) was so horrible that we actually spent our time tracking how long it took. There were no servers in sight when the hostess sat us and basically throughout the meal and afterwards. It took us at least 20 minutes to flag ANY servers to get waters and another 5 minutes before our server finally came to our table to take our orders. For some reason, started being more “present” while we were eating but “escaped” just as we finished. So, we had to wait 15 min. to flag just ANY servers for the bill and because the bill needed to be adjusted and needed parking validations, that took another 8 min. which at this point I am out of patience.
Hopefully for the sake of others this was an outlier “off” experienced, because I am not coming back here again.
We had a 5pm reservation on a Wednesday night. We had a little confusion finding the entrance due to the construction in the lobby of the hotel. After that we were seated right away and given the menus which contained a nice variety of appetizers, salads, and entrees. The server arrived immediately and was able to make some good recommendations on wine and appetizers. We selected the braised bacon and it was fantastic! I don't drink so I can't speak about the wine, but my associates seemed to enjoy it. Our dinner order was taken promptly. While waiting they served bread and butter as well - nice and warm, too! We had a few minutes to chat. It was early so not too many people in the place. Dinner arrived. I had the lamb chops with bordelaise (red wine based) sauce and it was perfectly cooked medium rare and a creative presentation as well. For the table (a group of 4) we also ordered the Hash Browns, Brussel Sprouts and Sautéed Mushrooms. The hash browns are very flavorful- there are green onions, bacon and sour cream - crispy on the outside but soft underneath. The veggies were also perfectly cooked and flavorful. My associates had a filet mignon, a rib eye steak and a scallop entree and everyone was raving about how good they were. We were so full that we opted to skip desert. The entrees averages about $47 each. The side dishes were extra $15-20 each, so this isn't a cheap meal, but it was worth it! Also, the restaurant does validate parking. if you self park it's free after validation. Valet ends up being $5 after validation.
It would have been nice if the wait staff would of came by and sang happy birthday to my 11 year old, who could of had his birthday dinner anywhere he wanted, he chose Spencers. I mentioned it in my reservation, I mentioned to the hostess and the wait staff. That part of the meal was very disappointing. We did enjoy the food, but it’s the little extras that would of made it more memorable for my 11 year old. We will see where he wants his 12th birthday dinner next year.
In terms of a steakhouse Spencer's is a good option, but not if you're looking for a high end dining experience. On this last trip the lobby of the hotel is in the middle of a major renovation, so the ambiance of the restaurant is affected. It also took us 4 requests from the wine list to find something they had in stock.
The steaks themselves are ok. They were well cooked, but I would question if they were truly dry aged as the menu suggested as I didn't get that flavor out of them. The ribeye was also cut on the thinner side compared to other steakhouses in the ahead. The service was ok, but had to flag down the server a couple times even though the restaurant was only half full.
Everything was great but not happy with the restaurant charging us $15.90 for 2 bottles of still water. It was not made clear that still water is not tap water so v Ryan surprised by the charge. As we were celebrating a birthday, it would have been nice to get a dessert complimentary specially when we had ordered 5 of them.
Went there after CPA show with my husband and 12 yr old son for an early dinner on a Saturday. The calamari app very good, crisp coating and soft meat, spiced well with no need for dips, including a spicy salad underneath. Hubby and I had the special, extra long aged ribeye, but were not too impressed for the price. He asked for medium rare, I rare, and we were served the others order (we checked and switched). Son had risotto and loved it - it was a bit too dry for me, but when I added a bit of cream to the left-overs, he didn't like it as much. As for sides, the creamed spinach was very good (being I'm the only one who likes it), but the hashbrowns were a disappointment.
Waitstaff were attentive and friendly, but the bar was under construction, so drinks to time to travel from some other bar. I have been there multiple times for lunch, and their shaken salads are great, including presentation.
I dine alone at the bar and had the filet mignon and sautéed mushrooms, with a great wine paring (the Aberdeen Cab if I recall) recommended from Burt the bartender. Was such an enjoyable experience and the service was great even though he was very busy he was very attentive to all patrons. I ended up another glass of wine and a few scotches. Great place to wind down with great food, wine and a good ambiance.
Spencer's is a good, authentic steak house w/ dry-aged, broiled beef & soaring ceiling. My wife has a bad back so the bench seat is a plus. We ate warm bread (great), unusual crab cake (great), signature salad (OK, menu read apricots but used pluots, overdressed), 8oz filet (asked for pink but was too red), scampi side (the single big prawn was tasty but the tiny prawns looked too transparent to eat; served on top despite me requesting it not be so I couldn't enjoy the Bernaise side as much), mushrooms (some were chewy), sauteed onions (good). Waiter's errors: 10min to stop by, scampi atop steak, unaware of pluots, too rare steak. He was cheerful though. Incredible apple pie has been removed from menu. I eat here every few years because the chains feel frantic. With a bit of work, it would be much better.
Everything was very good.
We even got seated at a table for 4 as opposed to the row of tables for 2. Started with avocado poke. Avocado was blended. That was fine. Poke was good. Wife had a salad. The wedge. Menu has changed so the wedge didn't have the usual head lettuce
It was good. I had corn soup. Very good. We both had rib eye steaks. She had prawns scampy with hers. Steaks and prawns were cooked right and very good. The prices have gone up and the total was very expensive. Other wise a good time was had.
