Spencer's For Steaks and Chops Ratings and Reviews
Bartender too busy, to keep track of bar. Not her fault she was running her butt of and doing the best job any human could do. Steak was good not great. Noise level was too much for the price and feel of the place. Asparagus was not cooked and cold. That is the only complaint on food the rest was average to good.
We made reservations for Spencer's based on the reviews we read. When we arrived it took 30 minutes past our reservation to seat us and when we sat down (7:30 on a Saturday) they told us they were out of filet and strip... the 2 major steaks any steak house should have available on a Saturday night. I tried to get our waiters attention to let him know that we were going to be going (I thought it was the polite thing to do) but he wouldn't return to our table so we had to walk out. We spoke with the receptionist who was very apologetic. We ended up next door at Ruth's Chris, a steak house that was not out of steaks on a Saturday night. We will not be going back to Spencers.
Food was just warm, not hot. Lamb chops too salty, fries came out after the rest of the food was served. Slow service, steaks were not done to the request of the patrons. Our expectations were higher based on having been twice before and the overall cost of dining there. Will not be back and will not recommend either. Very mediocre
The service was stellar, as always. Even though we’d had to change our reservation twice because of travel delays, Spencer’s was more than accommodating and helped make our (belated) anniversary celebration an occasion to remember. The special dessert created just for us by the chef was the perfect finale to our evening.
Especially good: wedge salad was surprisingly amazing, shrimp cocktail also great... very large prawns! The steak good but not blow your socks off and potatoes au graten were also good but not great! Creme Brûlée was really good. Overall was a good meal. I'd go next door for the blow your socks off steak I'm sorry to say.
My family and I were looking for a last minute reservation for Christmas dinner. Many friends had recommended Spencers in the pastAnd seeing as they had an open dinner reservations but, we decided to give it a try. I can honestly say that this was one of the best steak dinners I have ever had. Our entire family left feeling extremely satisfied and we are already looking forward to dining here again. I literally have not one bad thing to say!
The food was delicious, but the environment and the service was not great. Our waitress never told us any of the specials, we had to overhear from another server near us. She forgot about us multiple times and seemed very panicked. The food took a long time to come out.
Our server was excellent: knowledgeable and efficient. Kept us in schedule for our Symphony tix without it feeling rushed. Meat entrees were excellent (esp the bacon wrapped elk- and this is from a person who don’t normally eats game). Sides were ok- Brüssel sprouts were imbalanced (acidic). Rolls were yummy!! My cocktail (spiced cherry Manhattan-wow!!! That’s a keeper!) and French rose were excellent.
We ate here twice in one week. The seafood was amazing. To start us off, we had the french onion soup, Ahi tuna & king crab cakes. The mango/pineapple salsa was perfect with the wasabi cream on the Ahi. We had the Chilean Sea Bass served over a lovely lobster risotto. Fabulous! The second night, we went another route and were equally satisfied. We opened with the slab bacon (bacon chunks served with peanut butter, blackberry jam and almond brittle) and it is something you have to try. Superb! For the entree, we had the Spencer's Ribeye and the Wagyu Ribeye. Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly (if you like it a bit on the rare side). Both steaks are so rich, we only ordered Maitake mushrooms to have with the meal. They proved to be an excellent accent. The wine and cocktail list is large enough to find something perfect to pair with your meal even at most any budget.
Message to management. Chang your wine pricing policy. Charging 4 - 5 times the retail price of wines is outright stupid and is insulting to customers. Prices are $30 - $100 per bottle MORE than Ruth Chris. It literally inhibits customers completely enjoying their meal knowing that a restaurant cares so little about them that they are willing to price gouge them in a captive environment. The policy is stupid and neither I nor my companies do business with stupid policies. We will no longer reimburse expenses incurred at Spencer’s for anything.
We had excellent service and the food was delicious. The wedge salad was one of the best I have ever eaten. All filets were cooked perfectly and were very tender. The sides we chose were very good and were great accompaniments to the meal. Our server was very attentive and anticipated our needs throughout our meal. A very enjoyable time. Thank you.
Thanksgiving grossly disappointing. Sluggish, inattentive service, cold food ruined a nice holiday gathering At $55 per person, would have expected more when we have had other pleasant experience there.
No tablecloths greatly diminished the quality level of a supposed fine dining establishment
By far one of the best, if not THE best, ribeye steak I've ever had. Delicious lobster mac and cheese and gratin potatoes. Highly recommend the bbq prawns for an appetizer. Fantastic wine menu. Spencer's is one of our favorite places to go for fine dining and delicious food.
I had the lamb chops, which were superb--best I've had in years for both quality and quantity. The food and service were prompt. The sides are also excellent--try the truffle French fried potatoes for an interesting change. The wine and beer choices are good. The price isn't low, but it's fair for the quality of food and service. This was a business dinner, and the noise level was low enough to allow easy discussion. Spencer's is in a central location at the downtown Hilton, with free parking under the building (get the ticket stamped). Highly recommended.
