The restaurant was freezing, despite asking for the heat to be turned up. Waited 7 minutes to be greeted by a server (they were severely understaffed). Food took a long time to come out and was overcooked (both the burger and salmon). Mac & Cheese small plate was fairly tasteless and everything was under-salted. A table of 2 businessmen actually left before they got their food because they were waiting too long.
I've modified my original review... Let's just say that our server must have been having an off day. Unfortunately this will most likely be my one and only experience here.
This was the best value for this level of steak restaurant I can ever remember going to. The 14 oz NY Strip was cooked excellently, and the mushroom and asparagus sides were delicious as well. My wife and I also appreciated being able to order a half-sized portion of the family-style sides, which were more than enough for the two of us to share. We also appreciated the allowances made on everything we ordered to accommodate some food intolerances, and being our anniversary, were treated to two scoops of sorbet and fruit for no charge. All that plus two drinks came out to under $80 before tip, which was incredible, especially with how delicious every bite was. Colleen was our server, and she was extremely helpful in checking out concerns with the kitchen and helping us have an unforgettable evening. I've already recommended Spencer's to my colleagues and friends. Thank you!
Took my wife out for a special dinner. Spence's had been recommended so we thought we would try it. The food was above average but I have had better. My wife had the french onion soup and a Filet, and i had a wedge salad and the Rib Eye. The soup and salad were a meal in them selves but very good. The steaks were good but we have had better for a lot less cost. My wife mentioned 2 or 3 time about how dark it was in the restaurant and i was uncomfortably cool, didn't want to sit and just talk after dinner. For the cost we would probably go some where else next time I wanted to spend a couple hundred for dinner.
We decided to take a "date weekend." Due to a mix up in hotels, we ended up thinking we were at the Hilton Spencer's For Steaks and Chops is located. After a check-in of horrors, we finally got an uber to our dinner place. We were late for our reservation and we called in advance to let them know. The staff was extremely courteous and more than accommodating! There was a brief hold while there was verification of availability due to unforeseen circumstances and we were met with fantastic attitudes and professionalism. Our waitress, Bobbi, was upbeat, friendly, and kind. The food was beyond wonderful and the entire experience was amazing!!!!!!
We were not expecting the FANTASTIC FOOD in the Hilton but we sure got it. The prawns were amazing and flavorful. The lobster risotto was FILLED with large pieces of lobster. The twice baked potatoes were too big to finish. The soups (tomato and french onion) came in HUGE bowls and were extremely delicious. Service was just a tad slow but we weren't in a hurry either. Drinks were made to order.
This was an outstanding meal!!!! We are steak people and this was one of the best we have had! Bobbi, our waitress, was wonderful!!

Delicious piece of meat. Mediocre in every other respect. Terrible side dishes. SLOW service even though the place was half empty. Disclaimer: I'm NOT a steakhouse fan but on Christmas night there were few other choices.
First off the restaurant says it opens at 11:30 a.m. they didn't actually open the doors until 11:40 a.m. on a Tuesday. Unfortunately, two of the three meals were undercooked. The service was a little impersonal and slow. For sure don't be in a hurry if you go to this place.
Came in for a nice dinner on Christmas Eve, and we were a little let down. We had been to Spencer’s once before, about 4 years ago for Valentine’s Day and it was a wonderful evening. The same couldn’t be said for our most recent trip. Really, the food is pretty good: our French Onion soup and Wedge Salad were absolutely delicious. The Filet Mignon was delicious as well, but my Ribeye was underwhelming and I’m sure you can get a similar steak for half the cost at any chain steakhouse. The Mongolian Broccoli was essentially just boiled broccoli sitting in tons of soy sauce - not a well thought out or executed dish. The Brussel Sprouts were excellent. So all in all, I’d rate the food as reasonably good, but a stretch for the price.
The real downer for the evening was the service. Though the restaurant had quite a few open tables, we had to wait for them to prepare a table for two that we had reserved a day in advance. The Host could barely speak English and was very difficult to understand. He returned to lead us back to the table but the table wasn’t ready, so we were forced to just stand in the middle of the dining room while they finished setting it up. We sat and ordered drinks and appetizers. Then the waiter returned to take our order, and while in the middle of taking our order, another waiter was trying to deliver our salad to other tables in the dining room. Rather than excuse himself and handle the situation, the waiter taking our order stood at our table ignoring us while he was waiting for an opportunity to get his coworker’s attention. The salad finally made its way back to us and we were able to complete our order. But they then delivered the wrong soup to our table and had to swap it out. And then when it came time for our entrees, we were delivered a side we did not order and had to ask for the one we did order. The staff seemed unconcerned by these service errors, and that is not what I’d expect for a $200 dinner.
Service was excellent, our steaks were flavorful, tender and cooked just right. We always have a great experience when we dine at Spencer's.
Service was way too slow. Also thought it was weird that we showed up 10 minutes early and they wouldn’t seat us. Said we had to wait until our reservation even though there was no one in the restaurant!
We have gone to Spencer's Salt Lake for the last 15 years to celebrate our anniversary. Unlike past years, we were very disappointed in the food and dining experience. The steaks were very undercooked despite what we had requested. Salad was at most average. The dessert tasted like something we could have gotten at a grocery store (we appreciated the strawberry roses).
The decor and furnishings are getting a little tired and worn. Time to freshen things up.
We will give Spencer's one more try. If the experience is similar, we won't come back.
Terrible - restaurant was empty would not seat us until reservation time. They overcooked my colleagues steak. The steak is mediocre at best - my steaks I cook at home are better. This place is nothing special an overpriced for what you get.

Very poor attitude pre-dinner waitress ruined (charcoal) my date's filet mignon! Was very slow, and rude.
We went for a 4 PM dinner to what, normally, I consider 1 of SLC's top steakhouses.
We weren't informed their dinner dining wasn't open until later. So, we were seated in the sportsbar like area, unfortunately, rather than the dining area that wasn't yet open.
Informing the pleasant hostess, on arreival, that we had a 5:30 symphony date, and were in a hurry, she advised the lunch waitress would be right over. Over 20 mins later, and a reminder, the waitress arrived and was immediately rude about being busy in the lunch area of the restaurant, even though there was 1 other couple in the section we were in.
When my date's medium-well ordered filet arrived, and was cut in two, it was nearly raw.
The put out waitress took it for re-firing and returned with a completely burnt filet half the size of the original. It was so black the meat was ruined.
The only redeeming grace was the management was very apologetic and removed the filet's price from our meal. To be honest, we shouldn't have been charged, at all, after their service entirely ruined what should/would have been a very elegant meal.
I've never been so disappointed in the service of any restaurant, least of all Spencers which, normally, does such a fine job.
Will never make the mistake of going for a fine dinner to Spencer's, at mid-afternoon, again.
Great experience overall. The quality of the food was amazing. Sensational dry aged ribeye. Service was fantastic! Very much enjoyed our first time at Spencer’s.
Perfect spot for dinner before the symphony. It was a very pleasant experience, from the valet parking to the wait staff and great steaks.
Service was very slow but the food and ambiance were excellent. If they had more attentive service, this could be the best steakhouse in town.

I used to love going to Spencer’s but the quality and preparation of the food has gone way down hill. I wouldn’t recommend them and will not be back.
The food was great but if the waiter/waitress asks if you would like a few more minutes to look over the menu, plan on waiting another 25-30 minutes. We sat by a family who were having a lot of fun (drinking) and who were very noisy.
The wagyu fillet was amazing. Drinks were strong and good.
Spencer's is a premier steak house. My only complaint, a little petty, is that the creamed spinach is not really creamed.
My husband I ate were there for our anniversary dinner. I booked the reservation on line and got a confirmation email however when we showed up, our reservation didn't show in their system. The hostess was rather rude about it. I offered to show her my confirmation or give her the confirmation number and she said "no, I believe you but let me see if we can EVEN get you a table." If they wouldn't have been able to I would've been talking to the manager. The tone of her voice made it sound like we an inconvenience.
Other than that. Our food was delicious and our server was great. We love eating here on special occasions.
When I pay that much for food that is not any better than most other “sit-down” restaurants, and leave still very hungry, I don’t think I will recommend it to my friends.
The service was good, the ambience was very good, but I got the impression it was expected that the bill was going on some expense account and that price didn’t matter.
However, it was an interesting “one-time” experience.
So, so, not what I expected at all.
Like most high end steak houses...a bit pricey. Good overall experience. Although my steak was a little under cooked, but tolerable.

I have been in Utah 30 years and Spencer’s does everything right. Coming from Beverly Hills I’m accustomed to excellent food and atmosphere. Spencer’s is my favorite restaurant hands down. Their food is hi quality consistently. My birthday choice !

Med well steak was butterflied and cooked well done. Wine is overpriced.
We went for dinner with the family and the overall experience was really bad. We had to wait for around 10mins for the hostess to come meet us and show us to our seats. Then we had to wait for another 15mins for the waiter to show up by the time we already decided what we wanted to order but he took only the drinks order and ran. Then took him sometime to come back and get our order and then it took forever to get our food. By the time the kids we getting tired. Our server was attentive to the two tables next to us and completely ignored us. I think he must have thought we wouldn’t tip them. Anyways we won’t be going there again!!
The scallops were very good.
The 22 oz bone in steak was a standard grade, when I was expecting a prime grade from a restaurant with the name and reputation you have.
The service was extremely good and the seating was great.
Food quality was very good but it is very expensive. Prices are high for entree and doesn’t come with anything. All sides are additions at additional cost.

We stepped in the restaurant at 07:50pm with a reservation at 08:00pm made a couple of weeks before. At 07:55 we ordered two filets mignon with one side. At 09:00pm no food was brought to our table: a waiter said that "some more time will be required". We stepped out and went to Ruth & Chris,
Food was outrageous! Best steak I’ve had in a long time.
