The service was very slow, the server rarely checked on us and she didn’t give us any rolls. They also included a 20% gratuity even though there weren’t 8 people in our group. The portions were very small with no vegetables or potatoes or anything included.

Our server Benjamin was excellent! We were in Salt Lake for a quick weekend ski trip and needed some ideas about places to check out and Benjamin gave us some great references. The food was great and the Huckleberry Cobbler is not to be missed (it’s AH-mazing, you’ll thank me later!) Will definitely be back.

We went to Spencer’s for Thanksgiving and everything was impeccable. From our initial greeting by the host, the incredible servers, and the food that was served quickly, hot and delicious. The food quality was high for the price paid and we even had leftovers! It was a fun new experience and we will definitely visit again.

This was a very good experience. The service was extremely professional, the food was excellent, the ambiance was just what we were looking for - a quiet Thanksgiving dinner. Our last visit to Spencer's 5 years ago convinced us that we would never return - cold food, poor service, etc. We were extremely happy to see the quality of this restaurant return to its former high standards. We were dubious, but very pleasantly surprised. We would highly recommend Spencer's for any occasion.

We were in town for a convention, and decided to go to Spencer’s for a good dinner. We were very pleased with the service and food. Of course, it was a bit overpriced, but we pay for the complete package when at places like this.

The steak and appetizers were great. The shrimp cocktail and French onion soup was super good.

The mushroom had no flavor at all. They need some cooking sherry. Someone needs to fix this.

Service was great.

Service was phenomenal and friendly.
Husband had filet mug in and said it was better than most places we’ve been to. I had the lamb chops and they were marvelous! We drove 4-1:2 hours each way just to try Spencer’s and can’t wait to do it all again.

The food was delicious and the server was excellent.

Unfortunately, seating was a problem. The restaurant had only one large party when we entered and the host took us to a table directly behind this party. We asked to be seated at one of the other tables in the near empty restaurant, but were told our choices were the table to which we were directed or the bar. Rather than argue the point, we took the table. We were so close that when one of the diners in the large party stood her chair fell on our table. There were still many empty tables when we left, so the whole situation made no sense.

Again, the food and service were both superior, so I am torn on how to review this particular dining experience.

Great food, ambiance, location. On my last visit they forgot to deliver the soup course which was disappointing as their tomato soup is wonderful.

This was the first time we have ate here for lunch and it was outstanding. We had the mac and cheese with bacon, and the steak burger. Both were amazing, the pricing was reasonable, and we will be back again for lunch.

The steaks were excellent & cooked to perfection. The Tomato Bisque and French Onion soups were very good & flavorful, especially the French Onion. The sides were average. The garlicky mashed were fine. However, the roasted Brussel sprouts and beans were a disappointment and had little flavor.

The food and service were very good. The setting allowed a quiet conversation for a group of ten. The restaurant added a "large group" gratuity to the bill that I didn't notice. I added another 20% gratuity. The restaurant quietly accepted the 40% gratuity without comment. That is primarily the reason for my rating of less than five stars.

We have been regulars at this hotel restaurant for many years and always liked it for the quiet, traditional ambiance and the well-prepared straightforward food as well as a good bar and wine list. They have recently changed the menu rather dramatically, though the basics are still there. We found everything we had to be delicious, well-thought-out and perfectly prepared. It's a type of food (steaks, seafood, etc.) that, if it's quality, isn't going to be inexpensive, but I think it lives up to the price. The service is nearly always efficient and semi-formal, but not stuffy. It's not terribly busy ever, unless perhaps during a big convention, so you can either reserve or walk in probably.

We came to the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. We got right in. It is a cozy lovely place. We were seated next to a table of 10 with children which was well, there were children. It took our server some time to address us. She took our drink order and our appetizer order which in some places that's not such a good thing if you want to enjoy your cocktail first. We ordered the calamari which came out before our cocktails and was not fresh out of the fryer. It tasted ok but was definitely not hot like it should be. That was disappointing. We finally got our cocktails and at that time we ordered the rest of our meal. Again, mistake. I don't like to be rushed. We immediately got our salads and then immediately got our entrees. The salads were very good as were our entrees. I had the lamb chops and my husband had the rib-eye steak. Both very delicious. With all that being said, I feel that the restaurant is a bit over priced. It is definitely a place that you come to for a special occasion. Not on a regular basis.

Our meal was delicious. We were hosting a true West Coast carnivore. He loved his NY Strip. Our filet was perfectly seared and cooked to a memorable MR temperature. The delectable 'buffet' sized potato was down-home and yummy. The salad and soup were enjoyed and the Huckleberry Tart a proper finish. The dinning room service was professional, attentive and friendly. Conversation was easy. The Dining Room was perfect spot for a long, over-due catch-up.

To start, our Spencer's experience, we enjoyed a charcuterie tray off the dining menu while sipping cocktails in the clubby bar area. The tray was generous, accented with delicious local cheese, tasty homemade crackers and well seasoned salami. A bargain price, so much goodness and a special taste for everyone to share.

Unfortunately, the untrained and disinterested waitress/hostess/barmaid surrogate was a challenge. We needed to ask for the appetizer menu, and then the bar menu and then the drinks menu. Menu was not in her lexicon. The bar was busy and chatty - the bartender handling the happy sounding patrons. Our waitress was distracted by the patrons at the bar and very involved with the chatter at the Host desk and other uniformed employees. The cavalier attitude distressed us. We had to ask for a second drink, we had to ask for the check as apparently the drinks and appetizer could not be combined to the dinner bill {?} The bar server marred our experience.

We are new to SLC, we were hosted to Spencer's by our realtor on close of our home a year ago. Since then, we have managed to take our visitors for a delicious, memorable meal at Spencer's. We will be back one more time in hopes that the service was an anomaly. First impressions are important.

I would like to alert the front of the house management that customers will be lost if, staff remains untrained, disinterested and callous.

This was my second time dining at Spencer’s. I was in town for a meeting in Feb and happened to dine at Spencer’s, I enjoyed it so much that when I was back in town this past weekend I had to go back. On both occasions I was fortunate enough to have the same server, Colleen. She makes the meal so personal and special I cannot wait to come back to dine!!! I love the French onion soup and the thyme martini. Everything was amazing and fabulous. Thank you again to Colleen for helping to make my dining experience perfect!!!

My husband and I each had the prix-fixe sunset dinner special with an added bearnaise sauce for our steaks. We were extremely disappointed about what is named “bearnaise” sauce. It did not have any tarragon, not did it have a discernable egg yolk consistency both of which are standard for a bearnaise sauce. We did notice a lot of butter and salt. In general, the entire dinner was overly salty. We were in Salt Lake City for 5 days of a convention.

This should be called Spender's.
A hotel restaurant masquerading as an upscale steakhouse.
The service was mediocre at best. The server recommended the charcuterie plate, but didn't know what was on it. We were still enjoying our appetizers when we were informed to wrap it up because our entrées were 1min away. Hello?
Wine recommendations were equally uninformed, and tended to the pricier glasses, $22 and $25 per glass, about the price as a whole bottle of the same. Vintage poured was different from listed.
The steak was about as salty as licking the great salt lake. What are they hiding?
Lobster "Paella" was a soggy salty mess. After eating half the plate my date indeed did discover a morsel of lobster!

We have visited Spencer's on almost every visit to Salt Lake City over the past 25 years and can safely say that this was the worst experience. Cold food was supposed to be replaced by a replacement dish which didn't arrive until the rest of the dish was consumed. We were told that we would receive "compensation" - which amounted to one espresso drink.
The real problem, I feel, was that two waitresses served us and neither knew what the other was doing so confusion reigned.
I doubt we shall rush back!

If you want your food in less than 45 minutes, go somewhere else. If you don't like to fight for your waiter's attention, go somewhere else. If you don't want to pay $45+ for an entree, go somewhere else. The food is good, but you can get a good steak at many other less expensive places. The ambiance is nice, but not that special. We waited more than 45 minutes after we placed our order. It made us late for a concert. Honestly, Spencer's did not live up to the hype.
