Spencer's for Steaks and Chops - Omaha Ratings and Reviews
Excellent steakhouse. It was a Monday night so understandably they weren't super busy, and perhaps that afforded them the opportunity to be extra accommodating. We had a business meal and asked for a quiet/private table and they basically had a section of the restaurant they didn't seat people in because we asked. Awesome waitstaff, they were definitely professionals. The most memorable part of the cuisine was my beet salad. They had these little balls of goat cheese and pistachios that must've been deep fried, which basically acted as croutons except when you cut into it it was warm, gooey, salty, delicious cheese and nuts. Went great with the earthy beets, and sweet dressing.
We were totally disappointed especially after all the positive reviews. The wait staff attitude was disgraceful. Worst I have had at a high-end steak house in years. First it all with what we ordered. Not everyone was hungry so only 3 of 7 ordered steaks. The rest had salad or soup of some kind. We ordered appetizers. The meatballs and the flat bread. Both were cold when they arrived. But we were hungry so we ate them. The dirty plates started to pile up. And forget about drink refills. So we had to ask for clean the table and never got a refill until the meal was basically over. And the paltry serving of bread which we asked for another serving and offered to pay for it, but got a bunch of attitude from the staff. The caesar salad was ordered with dressing on the side and it came with it on it. We asked for extra dressing since there was very little and we got that after the salad was already eaten as it took 20 minutes to get the dressing. The steaks arrived and that was redeeming as they were cooked as described. 3 filets. Good quality. Oh but we asked for a side of béarnaise sauce and that took 10 minutes to get. Really? It seemed like every time we asked for something the attitude got worse. Never really saw the waitress much. I think she had every table in the place. Crab cakes were good. Sides were good. French onion soup was good. Service still terrible. Even after we pointed out some issues, not even a manager came by. If we were at mahogany prime or Sullivan's, they would be all over it. So, in the end this is one and done for me. I spent $400 on a meal for a family of 7 and apparently it wasn’t enough. In addition, the staff didn't earn the 20% service charge on the bill. I also spend lots of time and money entertaining at high end Omaha restaurants and they really messed it up. I can go on but running out of room. Terrible and disgraceful. Even the good parts of the meal became bad because of such bad service and attitude.
The food is expensive, but it was good. The cost was for steak only and the sides are all additional.
The taste of the steak was not as good was The Drover. The steak at Spencers was more bland. There are a lot of side dishes offered and they were all very, very good. The bread they served in the beginning was also great.
The waiter was great and helped with menu choices.
Parking is hard to find unless you know to park at the Hilton Garden of lot and get a validation.
A little pricey but the steaks were good. We tried the porterhouse, filet and rib eye. My fav was the porterhouse. What stood out to me even more than the good steaks was the great service. Some of the best service I’ve ever had anywhere. That alone would make me come back.
We spent one night in Omaha and couldn't not have some red meat. We started with a nice salad, then three double lamb chops with a side of mushrooms, accompanied by a bottle of L'Ecole pinot noir. The restaurant is like restaurants from the 60's; very dark, all wood paneling, a maze of rooms. Only thing missing is businessmen smoking cigars...thank goodness. Good place to go for a good steak or lamb chops.
I highly recommend dinner at Spencer's. Every morsel was delicious. Enjoyed one of the best beet salads EVER. Perfectly prepared steak and the chef's special dessert, all served by a warm, welcoming professional waitress. We hope to return to Omaha soon so we can return to Spencer's.
Our waiter was on point; kind, respectful, and efficient. While our main course of fillets and seafood pot pie were spectacular in size and taste, I was disappointed in the size of my lobster bisque (a small coffee mug) and substance (3 minuscule pieces of seafood). The ambiance was perfect for conversation and the location is an ideal distance for walking to Century Link after dinner for a show.
Spencer's was fantastic. The service exceeded any other high end restaurant we have dined at. Their attention to detail and knowledge were unmatched. They provided exception service without having an air. We would certainly dine here again when visiting Omaha.
