we had a great business meeting, the outdoor seating area looked fantastic
Enjoyed dining at Spear. The ambiance and service was good. Would definitely return.
Really friendly staff and we got a table in an alcove which was super nice. The noise level was low and easy for the party to hear each other. The food was amazing and would totally go there again
It was our first time to this restaurant. It was rated fairly high which is why we selected this place. The poor service of the staff was the what brought the experience down completely. From the bartender to our waiter that never was around. The restaurant was empty, I'd say about 10%-15% seated capacity. Very empty for a Sunday brunch. The staff seemed more focused on getting individual shoulder massages on an empty table in the middle of the restaurant than tending to their guests. The automatic gratuity charge on the check was quite disconcerting due to the lazy, inattentive staff services as I suppose they didn't really have to work for their gratuity since it was automatically on the Bils's of every check. This place was a total disappointment.
They ran out of mashed potatoes. The steak wasn't really good. The service was poor
Ac was not working
Nothing super special, but located in the center of the Financial District, which makes it a great meeting spot.
Always great. Love the wedge salad for lunch.
Brock our server was awesome! We had Crab Legs, Steak, oysters, and more...everything was great!
When I went there, ac wasn't working so we had no choice but sitting at the outside. It was bit too loud and felt uncomfortable because there were constructions going on right in front of the restaurant, where I had to sit outside and eat.
Weird space and bland to bad good.
Came here for my girlfriend's birthday and made a reservation online. We got the calamari, rose, scallops and prime rib. The calamari was pretty standard, a little on the toasted side. Prime rib came out perfectly medium rare and was a large cut of meat which I was happy about.
When the scallops came out we were a little disappointed by how small the 4 pieces were and our waiter pointed out that they'd be bringing a few more out since it looked more like an appetizer. They ended up serving us 3 more, but without the sauce. Glad they tried to make that right.
We also got a complimentary creme brulee for the b-day girl and the presentation on it was really nice. All in all a pretty good experience, made better by attentive service.
Absolutely the best oysters!
I haven't been here for a while but menu seemed limited and nothing exciting. The open air dining is great, except in 100 degree heat...they didn't seem to have AC??? I probably would not return.
The food was mediocre. They claim to be a seafood restaurant yet had no fish entrees except for salmon. When I asked the server why there weren't more options she just shrugged her shoulders and said yeah it's weird. We even have seafood in the name but we don't really serve fish. Unfortunately that's why I went here so I don't plan on going back. The food we did order was super oily and not seasoned very well. Not worth the price or the headache of looking for parking.
The Spear Salad was the best! The steak was great, no complaints. Waiter was a great dude, he always checked in on us without being a pest. I would return on my next trip to LA from Dallas.
I had a great dinner of lamb chops and roasted potatoes! The bread pudding was very tasty as well! Our server was very attentive, friendly, charming, and knew everything about the menu!
Good food. Good service. Good location. However, it was a summer day, and it felt like they barely had their A/C on -- since they have an open kitchen, it can get pretty hot during the summer!!!
We were a group of 12 persons and they gave us a closed room in the back. The temperature was awfully hot as the AC was not working. The wine was amazing, but the food was expensive and disappointing. Meat was ok, lobster was overcooked and dry. We were all disappointed for the price.
Hard to describe this restaurant, I was looking for a simple steak/seafood in midtown LA. Our reservation was for 7:00 pm on Friday, restaurant was not too busy. The outdoor bar was a lot more lively, our drinks was slow to arrive. However, the service was friendly and efficient.
There was road construction going on, so maybe that had something to do with their clientele. Foood was enjoyable and everyone enjoyed their meal. I would have preferred Water Grill because of better menu selections.
We were in a private dining room with 16 people for an important business meeting. The air conditioning was not working and the room was over 90 degrees. They have us 4 deserts as a left handed appology. The meeting was a disaster
Really tried several times to enjoy this restaurant. I took a client to lunch and needed something close by my office. Once again, I was very disappointed. The hostess was not friendly and did not smile. She sat us after about 5 minutes to a restaurant that was virtually empty. We sat and waited about 15 minutes for a waiter to even come over and acknowledge us and offer us drinks. We finally ordered then about 20 minutes later he brought us our two salads. I asked if he could chop my salad and he said it already came chopped, which it did not. He never came back to check on us then delivered the bill. Unbelievable bad experience! So, needless to say, will now definitely remove this from my go to list!
We had our anniversary dinner here and it was amazing! Our waiter was awesome and he gave us a free creme brulee at the end! Will definitely recommend
Sheena is not only a true delight as caretaker but her knowledge and interest in wine was stellar😁. She exposed us to a new wine that is a keeper for future enjoyment! Thanks for her!
Happy hour prices and quality of food & drink items surprisingly good.
I booked a reservation for Saturday that Tuesday. Spear accommodated the large party and even gave us one of the private rooms in the back. The room was definitely needed as we were there for bachelor party and needless to say, we were pretty boisterous. The staff didn't seem to mind and were friendly throughout the night even with our loud, and definitely inappropriate, dinner discussions. Food came out on time and was delicious. No complaints at all from the group!
I'd defintiely return here.
Great steaks and seafood.
Wghen we arrived, they stated that they did not have our reservation, which I completed through OpenTable. However, they were still able to seat us.
No matter where you sit in this restaurant, if there is a cold wind outside, it will blow into this place. We had to eat with our coats on.
Good food, accommodating staff. Would recommend this restaurant. Valet parking
Food was super underwhelming. Tasteless, grizzly meat. Cold chewy fries. The decor looked like it was super second-hand. Shrimp cocktail tasted spoiled and drenched in so much butter it was nauseating and smelled fishy gross. My colleague said the same of hers, so we told waitress who was gracious and said she'd tell kitchen but nothing else came of it. Ordered diet coke was flat and cheap bar brand knock off. My other colleage said same of his....
The atmosphere is great, but they have doubled the prices in the past year.
Treated my cousin for brunch on her birthday. Everything about the restaurant was amazing. There hash browns were soooooooo good :). Limited mimosas were my favorite. Had a really good experience and would definately come back soon. Thanks guys!
It's a nice restaurant but there was loud construction noise the entire time. The restaurant just ignored it like business as usual. I really wanted to like this place. It looked very cool and the menu looked awesome. The problem is, besides the noise, that the portions they give you are ridiculously small for the price. For example, when you ask for bread, they literally take a roll and cut it up into pieces. The steak is super small as well. The service was good but for the money it's just not worth. You are better off going to Mortons or The Cut for the money. I was super dissapointed with the experience.
Been here several times before and we had a great experience. The service has always been great that why I continue to have spontaneous dates here with my husband. This last time was horrible and was very disappointed because it was a spontaneous date and our service was not even close to how it was it the past. Lucky the salmon made up for the horrible service. Won't be coming back here again.
I ordered the beef rib eye tacos for lunch. The slices of beef were hard, overdone and burnt. I asked the bartender/server how the chief could serve a meal like that. He should have started over and thrown the beef rib eye tacos away. She had the chief prepare more tacos but by then I had lost my appetite. I have eaten their beef rib eye tacos before and they were good. I was very disappointed today. I expected more/better from such an upscale/expensive restaurant.
Whoever cooked the omelette yesterday sure did put two bottles of oil to cook, super super greasy such a big failed. Don't think I'll go back again.
The food was very expensive for what it was. Our reservation was at 5:15pm, and there was no one else inside. Even then, our service was not that great. The food took a long time to come out, even though we were the only ones in thy dining area.
The beef wellington did not taste bad, but for the $50 price, I expected it not to fall apart. The burger also just tasted ok. They didn't have any pickles or thousand island, and the waitress did not recommend any good substitutes.
For the $130 we spent, we were better off going to Nick and Stefs. They have better quality of food.
We ate at Spear right before going to the theater and it was perfect. It was reasonably priced and the scallops, one of the meals we ordered, were delicious. The service was a bit spotty in the bar area but improved once we got upstairs. The bar was pretty busy so that may explain things. The drinks were good but a little on the high side for a happy hour. Overall, a good addition to DTLA.
There weren't a lot of restaurants in the area who could take a party of 15 with less than 8 hour notice, but Spear could! I wasn't sure of expectations, as prior to this I only dropped in once or twice for lunch, but everything was excellent. We had very attentive wait staff for our large party, the serving was elegant, and the food was delightful!Great entree portions (my lamb was amazing) and great shareable sides! No complaints from the team, only compliments. Looks like I'm stuck making the dining choices going forward because everyone liked it so much!.
