Great Cajun style meal for a decent price. Blackened catfish and scallops were excellent. Easy access on College Ave.

We had a great experience, enjoying the great food and the great ambiance. The lamb shank fell right off the bone as promised, the jambalaya was spicy and hot, the corn creamed chicken with cornbread stuffing was just delicious. We return to State College in 2 weeks, and plan to return to Spats.

I live in State College and had a business dinner and brought my out of town guests to my favorite restaurant - Spats. Everything was great as usual; I had the blackened duck breast and my guests had the filet and salmon and everyone enjoyed their meal. We had the alligator bites and cheese plate for appetizers and the cheese plate was particularly inventive and nicely presented. Service was impeccable. About the only disappointment was the bread pudding we intended to share which was a little dense. Otherwise another fabulous meal at Spats.

Thank you Spats.

Lively restaurant with a good vibe. I took a guest speaker here because the quality of the food is reliable. Portions are generous if a bit pricey, but worth it for atmosphere, food, service.

We ate dinner at Spats Cafe while visiting our son at Penn State. It was absolutely delicious and everyone enjoyed! Though a bit pricey, we would certainly dine with them again.

Went for dinner and decided to order several appetizers instead of entrees. The appetizers were really good. Our favorite was the BBQ shrimp. The crab and spinach dip was a close second - lots of crab. Service was very good as well.

Spats is our favorite place to dine when we visit State College. The menu has great choices. The service is excellent. I have never had a bad meal there. This latest visit we ordered the short ribs and the catfish. Both dishes were fantastic. They use local ingredients where possible and the meal was cooked to perfection.Spats is a must for those looking for a quality meal in State College.

The featured fish dish for the evening was Mako Shark with an appropriately seasoned sauce and various greenery. However, the waitstaff told us that they were out of Mako Shark and they would be serving Monkfish in its place. Unfortunately, we both ordered the monkfish rather than any of their other dishes, and it came with the same sauce as had been used for the Mako Shark. The fish are totally different so the monkfish was experienced as tasteless and bland. An example of the cook at the end of a Saturday night, trying to use all of his sauce and a fall-back fish as "good enough". I expect more than this from Spats.

Spats is one of my favorite restaurants in the State College area. The food is always good, and there is a nice variety from which to choose. Gluten free options are well marked. The wait staff are excellent--many of them have worked there for years.

Server and kitchen accommodated my unusual dietary needs (low salt, no sugar) beautifully. Started with the best salad in town - chopped salad minus candied pecans, blue cheese and raspberry vinaigrette. Had delicious grilled sustainabley caught, fresh pike with their signature yummy red rice and delicately grilled asparagus. Hubby had decadent blackened duck with blue cheese balsamic reduction, signature cheesy grits (amazing!) and asparagus. Best duck he's ever had. Service was stellar, food was fresh and fabulous! Highly recommend!!!

We were very satisfied! We were a large group of almost 20 celebrating my son's graduation from Penn State. The food was excellent, service was real good and the ambience was warm, cizy ans almost private!

For a large group of minorities we did not feel any amount of discomfort in the service we received. We all lwdt feelung we lucked out in our choice.

Never been disappointed with Spats. You may be surprised that there's quality cajun/creole in Central Pennsylvania, but don't be fooled. Fabulous staple menu with a great selection of specials that often incorporate local ingredients. Great for special occasions and a top dinner spot when in Downtown State College.

Food is always good and bartender makes some awesome drinks. Service was a little above average. Sometimes seems smokey/hazy in there though like the kitchen doesn't adequately vent. Overall a good place to eat in State College and we come back regularly.

The food here never disappoints. The sweet potato coated catfish is heaven on earth. Their Mahi Mahi special with pesto cream sauce was equally delicious. This was my second time back and I plan to hit this place every time in State College. The food is pricey, but that is because it's very good. The only downside was summer of 2017 there wasn't air conditioning. I'm not sure if they just don't have it, but they didn't at the time and it was hot. Thumbs up to these guys for taking reservations! Very helpful when you have kids that eat on a regular schedule.

We have dined at Spats many times . Our guests were happy with their jumbalya . However , my salmon was very ordinary - overcoomed and tasteless. This is the second time that I have not enjoyed my fish meal . Disappointing .

The place itself is a fun atmosphere. It was our anniversary and it was nice to get something different in State College, which isn't the best place for foodies. Our main courses and dessert were great, but we do not recommend the chopped salad or gator bites. Strawberry shortcake was delicious ! My sazarac was delish too. We had a great waitress .
