Unlike so many Italian restaurants their seafood is perfectly cooked and delicious. I love their pastas too.
Great place because it is fun but not high decibel so you can speak with your table members.
Very friendly & professional staff.
Go here every time I am in San Carlos.
I've been to Spazzos many times, and it has always been good, but this last time it was not to my liking. First thing that got my attention was the warm beer I had. Second problem, and major problem, was the noise level. I had a very hard time, not necessarily hearing my date, but it was so loud that it was constantly distracting. I was constantly asking my date "Do you hear how noisy it is??"
Our favorite local restaurant. Been going for years. Excellent food and service.
We've been a number of times. Food was good, but it has been better on other occasions. (Probably a function of what I ordered)
Table was in good location, away from front door or kitchen. Waiter had to be asked 3 times for more oil for our bread - otherwise everything was great!
Warm atmosphere, delicious pasta in large portions, very attentive service.
Great place for a Perfect birthday dinner.
Fantastic food and service for a large party with kids.
The place was packed with families when we arrived, and there appeared to be only one waiter -- but she was very attentive and perky; The tables are really jammed together, so its not a place for intimate dining or business dining; The food was both hot and very good; However, the menu is pretty standard Italian fare -- nothing adventuresome to be found;
Have been to Spasso for both lunch and dinner. They have separate menus for lunch and dinner. Everything I’ve tried has been good. Full bar and outdoor seating. Comfortable with good service.
Love Spasso! Always great food & service!
Loved the food, Service and will continue to go there.
Overall a little crowded and noisy. Food was OK. Service was very good. 2 of our party had special dietary needs which were handled professionally and without problem. Several wanted to split salad and it was split and served separately. One person was not pleases with her selection. When waitress asked how she liked the food she said it was not to her taste. Waitress immediately offered to exchange it for a different entree.
We had nice evening, nice meal - service was best part
Very nice neighborhood Italian restaurant. Solid preparations, ample portions and great service. Especially like the calamari with beans and artichokes, eggplant parm and seafood linguini. There is always a special, too. Good wine list. Could improve the beer selection.
Nice dessert list. On a street with at least 3 other Italian restaurants, we like Spasso.
Very nice Valentine's Day experience. Delicious food! Extremely organized on a very busy evening. Enjoyed the casual, relaxed environment. Added to our list of favorites to go back on Date Night. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
I can't say enough about this restaurant, it never disappoints even on a busy Valentines day the food was excellent the service was outstanding had the mushroom bruschetta , Caesar salad, halibut, then bread pudding all well prepared and delicious. Great cocktails and wine list also.
will definitely be back
Went there for a business lunch. Wasn't too crowded in the food was very good. Turned out to be a good choice
Excellent food. Great ambience. Excellent service.
Our waiter was wonderful!
Awesome food, kid friendly, great service. Excellent experience.
It was great - a lovely restaurant with attentive staff and deliciousness. Special.
Spasso is dependable and accessible. We love its convenient location in our own city and the fact that we can get in at the last minute. The food is always good. It's an unpretentious and approachable restaurant. Great bar service and excellent wine choices too!
Spasso is our go to Italian restaurant in San Carlos! The food is consistently good as is the service. On a nice day or evening, you can choose to sit outside. They have fresh, delicious salads, appetizer plates, and entrees. If you want a good casual spot for everyday dining or for a special occasion, Spasso is your spot!
Had a 7pm reservation. Did not get seated until 7:30 with no apology. Took about 20 minutes to get a drink at the table and we did not get food until about 8:15. Food quality was fair to good, but definitely not worth the poor service.
Very good Italian right in downtown San Carlos. Our waiter made excellent food & wine suggestions.
Still one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Pretty crowded and noisy on weekend nights. The food is almost always top notch, though this time the veggies were a bit over-cooked. The wine list can be hit and miss, with few recognizable labels, but we enjoyed a cab blend that was recommended.
Great place. We like a lot, but the parking in downtown San Carlos is not very good.
Food was just not good. Appetizer plate was just a fried mess and my salmon was very over cooked.
we live this restaurant food always outstanding. only issue I have is because they don't have double doors at the entrance the tables at the front are drafty and cold so sit to the rear
Great service! Great for birthdays. Food isn't the best but the vibe is nice.
We both had the warm cabbage salads, one with chicken and one with skirt steak. The steak was very tough this time, not able to chew it! They took the added steak charge off the bill, so, all was good.
Should have known better than to go on a Saturday night! Even though we had reservations, we still waited an extra 30 minutes for our table. They were apologetic and even topped off our wine. It was quite busy and therefore also quite noisy. Overall the food was good as was the company!!
Very attentive service, great selection of food and wine. We got there before the dinner rush and it was very nice. Once the dinner rush began it got rather loud due to the small intimate size of the restaurant. That was a downside and the sever seemed a bit quick which was a little off putting. Very slight dislike, otherwise a perfect experience and delicious food. Can't wait to go back again
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Spasso. The food, atmosphere and service were all excellent. We had the Caesar Salad, Black Pepper Fettucini, and Grilled Salmon and everything was delicious.
the pasta dishes were the best, comfort food, reasonable prices, excellent service, full bar
New Year’s Eve dinner. Perfect
We were excited to try this place for dinner on New Years Eve. It was our first trip and we were excited for the menu that we saw online. No where (open table, their website or at the restaurant) did it mention there was a “special” menu for the night. Special entailed a small subset of the same items from the regular menu marked up 50-125%. At normal prices I would have really enjoyed this, but the disingenuous switching of menus left us extremely dissatisfied and will result in taking our business elsewhere.
My wife and I both had the Flounder which was overcooked and dry. The food here is normally very good. Maybe it was because of being New Year's Eve.
Well, admittedly it was New Years Eve, so the place was a bit crowded....certainly not unexpected to have to wait for 15 minutes past our reservation time.
We were disappointed that the menu presented was a small subset of the selections on the Open Table menu. There was very little to choose from if one did not want cream sauce. When my wife asked if she could get a simple pasta with tomatoes, basil and olive oil, the waiter refused the request citing the owner's instructions that nothing was to be ordered that was not on the reduced menu. I can understand the need to focus offerings on a holiday to turn tables more quickly but then the menu should have a variety that accommodates wider tastes. My wife settled on a salad and an appetizer as her meal since the choice of entrees was quite limited for her palate.
Not only that, the prices were significantly higher than their typical menu. For example, Mista Salad normally $7.00 was $14.00; crab cakes normally $16.00 was $22.00; and Salmon normally $21.00 was $34.00. The crab cakes were good; salmon was good but certainly not worth $34. However, the Lava cake was excellent! (at least one bright spot)
So overall, quite a disappointing experience. I doubt we would ever return and will not recommend. The owner's decision to price gouge on a holiday is certainly his prerogative but he will need to wear the consequences of his decision. He made $50 more off us one time but lost potentially years of business.
Lastly, Open Table, if it does not already, needs to prompt restaurants to provide updated special event or holiday menus. We were grossly misled based on the menu available on Open Table. While the fault is that of the owner, Open Table's reputation as a "go to" resource for dining has been compromised.
We have always enjoyed Spasso. The food and service is always good. When we made the reservation, there was no mention of a special limited menu. That would not have been an issue, except the prices were about double what they would normally be. Of course, people will say that is was New Years Eve, and we should expect that. That would not be true. There are many restaurants that post that type of information. It is disheartening to arrive with certain expectations, based upon their posted menu, only to find something very different and over priced. We certainly could not have just walked out and found another table somewhere else that evening, so we stayed. There are many restaurants who do not do that, and just serve their normal menu. This will probably result in me not returning to Spasso. While the food and service was good, we felt as though we were hosed. I believe in transparency, not deceit.
