Spasso Ratings and Reviews
I can't say enough about this restaurant, it never disappoints even on a busy Valentines day the food was excellent the service was outstanding had the mushroom bruschetta , Caesar salad, halibut, then bread pudding all well prepared and delicious. Great cocktails and wine list also.
will definitely be back
Spasso is dependable and accessible. We love its convenient location in our own city and the fact that we can get in at the last minute. The food is always good. It's an unpretentious and approachable restaurant. Great bar service and excellent wine choices too!
Spasso is our go to Italian restaurant in San Carlos! The food is consistently good as is the service. On a nice day or evening, you can choose to sit outside. They have fresh, delicious salads, appetizer plates, and entrees. If you want a good casual spot for everyday dining or for a special occasion, Spasso is your spot!
Still one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Pretty crowded and noisy on weekend nights. The food is almost always top notch, though this time the veggies were a bit over-cooked. The wine list can be hit and miss, with few recognizable labels, but we enjoyed a cab blend that was recommended.
Should have known better than to go on a Saturday night! Even though we had reservations, we still waited an extra 30 minutes for our table. They were apologetic and even topped off our wine. It was quite busy and therefore also quite noisy. Overall the food was good as was the company!!
Very attentive service, great selection of food and wine. We got there before the dinner rush and it was very nice. Once the dinner rush began it got rather loud due to the small intimate size of the restaurant. That was a downside and the sever seemed a bit quick which was a little off putting. Very slight dislike, otherwise a perfect experience and delicious food. Can't wait to go back again
We were excited to try this place for dinner on New Years Eve. It was our first trip and we were excited for the menu that we saw online. No where (open table, their website or at the restaurant) did it mention there was a “special” menu for the night. Special entailed a small subset of the same items from the regular menu marked up 50-125%. At normal prices I would have really enjoyed this, but the disingenuous switching of menus left us extremely dissatisfied and will result in taking our business elsewhere.
Well, admittedly it was New Years Eve, so the place was a bit crowded....certainly not unexpected to have to wait for 15 minutes past our reservation time.
We were disappointed that the menu presented was a small subset of the selections on the Open Table menu. There was very little to choose from if one did not want cream sauce. When my wife asked if she could get a simple pasta with tomatoes, basil and olive oil, the waiter refused the request citing the owner's instructions that nothing was to be ordered that was not on the reduced menu. I can understand the need to focus offerings on a holiday to turn tables more quickly but then the menu should have a variety that accommodates wider tastes. My wife settled on a salad and an appetizer as her meal since the choice of entrees was quite limited for her palate.
Not only that, the prices were significantly higher than their typical menu. For example, Mista Salad normally $7.00 was $14.00; crab cakes normally $16.00 was $22.00; and Salmon normally $21.00 was $34.00. The crab cakes were good; salmon was good but certainly not worth $34. However, the Lava cake was excellent! (at least one bright spot)
So overall, quite a disappointing experience. I doubt we would ever return and will not recommend. The owner's decision to price gouge on a holiday is certainly his prerogative but he will need to wear the consequences of his decision. He made $50 more off us one time but lost potentially years of business.
Lastly, Open Table, if it does not already, needs to prompt restaurants to provide updated special event or holiday menus. We were grossly misled based on the menu available on Open Table. While the fault is that of the owner, Open Table's reputation as a "go to" resource for dining has been compromised.
We have always enjoyed Spasso. The food and service is always good. When we made the reservation, there was no mention of a special limited menu. That would not have been an issue, except the prices were about double what they would normally be. Of course, people will say that is was New Years Eve, and we should expect that. That would not be true. There are many restaurants that post that type of information. It is disheartening to arrive with certain expectations, based upon their posted menu, only to find something very different and over priced. We certainly could not have just walked out and found another table somewhere else that evening, so we stayed. There are many restaurants who do not do that, and just serve their normal menu. This will probably result in me not returning to Spasso. While the food and service was good, we felt as though we were hosed. I believe in transparency, not deceit.
We made a reservation for 10 and end up with 12 of us going there for family dinner. They add a table fast and we were seated in 5 min. Food was delicious and service great. Our server was very nice and friendly. We all had a great time. This place is great for groups or family gathering.
I love these guys. We made a reservation for Christmas eve. Our table was right there, waiting, at the appointed reservation time. Beautiful. It was packed. Understandably so, because the staff is so friendly and the food is so good. Yet the ample staff attended to our every need and never appeared stressed even in light of a very full customer load and very busy pace. The food? Wonderful. It was the perfect choice for a special Christmas. And we'll continue to go there for everyday dining because these guys are just so good.
I did love this place - but, we had a really bad experience on Saturday night. I made a reservation on Open Table, said I wanted to be away from the cold blasts from the front door, and when I got there, they just kept asking us to sit outside on the sidewalk. We said "no" three times. The outdoor area is so small, and people walk by on the sidewalk and bump into the tables. Then, they said they had a large party coming in the back, but could "squeeze" us in for an hour back there, so we agreed. The waiter was stressed and very short with us. Our salad was served quickly and then he brought the entree and plopped it down on the table, and we weren't even half finished with our salad - as if to say, "hurry up and get out of here". Then, the large party started trickling in after we were only at the table about 20 minutes, the employees were rushing around shouting at each other and moving chairs, and the large party was a group of very rude young people who appeared inebriated - they were so loud - and shouting at each other. After we were at the table about 40 minutes, they asked if they could move us to the bar, and gave us a tiny glass of port, but it was at the end of the bar where the wait staff kept bumping into our chairs to pick up their orders - the evening was truly a disaster, and I don't know if I will ever go there again. I would have felt better if they would have just said the reservation got mixed up and they didn't have room for us. I offered to go elsewhere if they couldn't accommodate us, but they wanted to "squeeze in" a few extra bucks, I guess. So sad to see a good place let their greed ruin their good reputation. What a disappointment - we felt like we were just annoying the staff the entire time we were there - not welcome at all.
They had given away our 6:30 reservation due to the restaurant overbooking. Never got a table because the wait for a table wasn’t happening.as it was so crowded. So we sat at the bar for dinner. It was my birthday dinner so even though they were nice it didn’t overcome my expectations for my birthday dinner. When we finally got to eat my food it was served warm instead of hot. But I was to hungry by then to send it back
