Spasso Italian Grill - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
My wife ordered seafood with pasta, I had gnocchi with broccoli rabe.
My wife complained that her meal left a bad taste in her mouth - she nibbled, but ate litte. My gnocchi was very good - I couldn't finish it, and took the rest home with me - but the broccoli rabe was overcooked and tasteless. I took a few bites and left it.
I wish I had asked for my money back for my wife's meal and my side dish. We arrived at 9:30p, after a movie; I had the distinct feeling they were serving us the dregs.
Excellent service for a Valentine's Day evening. Our server was attentive, careful, and engaging. He managed to be both unobtrusive and constantly present, which was great. The meal, as usual, was well-crafted and hot when it arrived. I'm a huge fan of Spasso's mix of peppers, the careful seasoning, and the quality of bread (two servings was more than an appropriate appetizer in advance of our meal). My spinach ravioli was incredible. Great overall experience.
Spasso is a classic, well-established neighborhood eatery. There is no need for pretense and no need to hype some trendy new food preparation technique. The menu is anchored by homemade pastas whose freshness comes through the simple, authentic and flavorful sauces. Whole fish are perfectly prepared as is all the seafood. The veal is fresh. The wine list is not enormous but there are a good cross-section of vintages listed. The price points for most bottles are fair and moderately priced. There are a few more expensive reserve wines. We are not huge fans of the desserts offered at typical Italian restaurants in America but the tartufo at Spasso is spot on. Service is friendly and attentive.
Spasso NEVER disappoints! We usually dine at the Media location and this was our first time at the Philadelphia location. We brought some family from out of town and some family that just moved to the area. Everyone's food was delicious and the family that just moved here said they would love to try the special dinners on Tuesday nights! Highly recommend to anyone!
The restaurant itself is very small. The tables are close and the noise level is high. The servers weren’t overly friendly or helpful, they pretty much did their jobs without exchanging pleasantries.
I ordered chicken parmigiana which was so deep fried it was crunchy. It also had a lot of fat. It came with a side of spaghetti and not much tomato sauce. I had to ask for extra.
My husband ordered a special which was pasta with scallops and crab meat in a blush sauce. His was very good. They served bread on the table with a small plate of some kind of roasted peppers or something similar. No one explain to us what that was but it was tasty.
The meal was ok but I wouldn’t rush back there.
I had reservations as spasso for restaurant week. They were the only restaurant that didn’t have fixed menu, you could choose anything on the menu except for specials and the portions were full not half as I expected. The food was phenomenal. Wonderful experience!
Went for Restaurant Week so it was packed and pretty busy. Despite that, our server was very attentive and got everything done promptly! All of the food was delicious with very generous portion sizes! Cannolis were to die for!! Will definitely be heading back
