About
I had heard great things about this restaurant, however, when I went with my friend 3 of the items on the menu weren’t in stock so it was disappointing.
We came early at 6:00 for dinner. the restaurant was not busy. The menu choices were great, with gluten free bread and other options, vegan too. Gentle service, unobtrusive but there when we needed them. Not sure why it's not a busy location because the food was delicious, admittance was perfect. Prices mid range, could get an entree for $12 and it's in haight street. I would go back.
Staying in SF and ate here our first night easy walk from our hotel. What a lovey surprise!! Interesting menu selections fresh and delicious. Great wine list! Lovely garden out back for dining. Highly recommend
The restaurant was out of 3 items and the food wasn’t very good.
Food and service was okay. Felt a little overpriced for the portion size and they ran out of several wines.
The restaurant wasn’t open during my reservation
Great experience. The food is excellent, inventive. We got the hamburger, had to try what the peanut butter did; tasted great, and the mussels. The wine was very good. The service was attentive.
Garden patio wonderful for dining with kids
It was just ok. When we arrived we were told we had to order in the next 10 min because they had decided to close the kitchen early, so it all was very rushed. Then, the bottle of wine we got wasn't exactly the one we had ordered (same winery different wine), which was unprofessional. Lastly, they added a 5% surcharge on the bill for living wage—I fully support giving workers a living wage, but I think restaurants should build it into the prices (like at Zazie), or include it as a mandatory 20% tip—it felt sneaky to have it added at the end, in addition to tip and the SF healthcare mandate.
The food was delicious and nicely crafted. Someone who creates the dishes put a lot of thought in to appearance, taste, and how everything on the plate worked together. And they have stellar fries! The staff was very efficient and very nice, and that made it a perfect evening dinner for the folks I had visiting from out of town. The noise level is high given the materials of the building, so keep that in mind in case that's a bother to you.
Really great surprise. The food was so amazing - healthy vegetarian, vegan, and meat options. Huge portions. Super nice and attentive service. Really good drinks!!!! I can't wait to go back.
The restaurant was cozier and quieter than I had even hoped. The food is simple, straightforward (slightly gastro-pubby), and reasonably priced, with a range of healthy and less healthy items. We had mussels, cauliflower soup, beet salad, and burgers -- all very good.
Disappointed with Menu. Even the basic Burger was tasteless, lettuce old, brown edges, fries were dry, as if they were left out too long. Staff attentive.
Food was lackluster. Ambiance was cold. Decent service.
Came here on a double date and sat on the back patio. It was a bit cold outside but the heat lamps were so perfect. They have a fun cocktail list and a great wine list. We ordered a cheese board, Brie/bacon/Apple toast and fried cauliflower for starters. Everything was really tasty but HELLO the cauliflower was exceptional! For dinner the 4 of us ordered two fish entrees, mushroom tagliatelle and a kale salad. The pasta was fresh and the mushroom ragu was hearty but not overpowering. I can't wait to come back to Sparrow for another glass of wine and a few small plates
The kale salad was delicious but the vegetarian burger was awful - basically pressed seeds with no texture or flavor. Shame because the decor is appealing and the menu looks appetizing. Will may be try once more and hope for better food.
