Sparks Steak House

The restaurant is still a family owned and operated business and is located in midtown Manhattan, a five minute walk from Grand Central Station and The United Nations. The restaurant is well known for excellent steaks, seafood, fresh vegetables and satisfying salads.
And of course, the huge wine list.

Outstanding service by highly professional, but friendly, staff.
It was wonderful. I celebrated my birthday there and all my expectations were met and exceeded! I would love to thank the maitre d' and bartender Trevor for making making my special request happen. It was truly a magnificent evening.
had a great steak! the filet was cooked perfectly.
Fabulous, professional without attitude and very very friendly. Made a surprise, 65th-birthday party a success.
The food was definitely delicious. There servers could be more nicer to you. My server was rude and inpatient. I couldn’t take his demeanor and rudeness. So I ate my appetizer and took my dinner out. It was my anniversary. Sad I didn’t get full experience
Awesome as usual. There is really no other place that I known of where you can get a perfect 4.5 lobster, broken up and served to perfection to you ever single time. We love it here. They were all properly socially distanced, taking temperatures and the like. It was wonderful. I miss the days of cigar smoking also but alas,... this way is healthier. loved it.
always consistently good sirloin steak and the trimmings.
Only issue are the homeless outside the restaurant harrassing the patrons for money.
Outstanding and highly professional service. Extremely accommodating. Excellent bernaise.
We Came Here From Louisiana & When I Tell You Everything Was Absolutely Amazing!!!! It was My Husband's 40th Birthday & They Did Not Disappoint!! The Food, Service, & Atmosphere Was Absolutely Amazing!!! We Will Be Back!!! Thank You To All The Staff At Sparks For An Amazing Night!!!
Steven our waiter was excellent and the food was outstanding
Wonderful dinner. Delicious steak. Ambiance... perfect .
Service was awful. They’ve lost something since the pandemic.
Been to Sparks twice in the past month and it has the feel of a luxurious restaurant, yet you can still enjoy a meal at your pace. Staff was great and the interior was kept very clean. Delicious food all the way around.
After emerging from the year of Covid, this was just the place to go! The food is outstanding, the service is of the highest quality, and the ambiance is perfect. It was a perfect night!
First time at Sparks and I flaked and didn’t get the steak. The lobster tails were a suitable replacement and the wine list was impressive. The atmosphere was more low key than I’d like for a family dinner but still very pleasant. I’ll be back when the city reopens to have steak!
I have very mixed feelings about Sparks. I booked it because it was close to the hotel in which I was staying in NYC and it was raining quite hard. Sparks is an old-fashioned kind of steak house. That is clear from the decor and the menu. The modern trend of talking about how long the meat has been aged, or offering, say, ribeyes of different weights and 'vintages' simply ignored as if that has never happened.
I had the medallions, and my dining companion had the sliced steak. They were not great cuts, and were, I think, pan fried not grilled. Both dishes were sloppy and disappointing.
The quite remarkable thing about Sparks, however, is the wine list. It has a vast number of old world wines 15-20 years old, some of which are very generously priced. Clearly they have bought wine 'en primeur' and laid it down until it is properly ready to drink. So I had a 2001 Margaux for about $150, which was remarkably good value.
However, the service in general was not very good - and that was particularly true regarding the wine. There was a great performance with a decanter and a candle. However, the only point of this, of course, is to prevent sediment from reaching the glass. It failed SPECTACULARLY - the waiter clearly had no idea what he was doing. That was plain from how the bottle was handled. There was a load of sediment in the decanter and in my glass. Given that some of the bottles on the list went as high in price as $7,500, this is simply very poor service and/or training, and really unacceptable.
I can only assume Sparks trades of an historic reputation. While the wine list is well worth the visit, the food is not, and nor is the service. I suspect not all its diners are aficionados of fine wine, and I don't know why else they bother, I'm afraid.
Wanted to try this steakhouse for my birthday.
The food was great. The service efficient and friendly
First, we asked not to be seated by a door or underneath a fan or vent because food gets cold fast! It doesn't take much to understand that concept. However, our request was dismissed and ended up right underneath a vent. The server was nice and took our orders correctly. The steaks were cold by the time they arrived to the table and vent on top of us didn't help, of course. The shrimp was fine and so was the vegetables and sauces. We were disappointed, paid the check, and drove to Tony DiNapoli for desserts. Previously, I had given Sparks high ratings, but this time they dropped the ball big time.
This was our first date night in New York in a year and Sparks did not disappoint — they welcomed us with open arms and even treated us to dessert! They are following all safety protocols and there was already enough room to spread out in the main dining rooms so it felt very safe. Food was excellent; I had the best veal chop I’ve had in my life and my girlfriend got a wonderful filet. And they still Oddero Barolo by the half-bottle, so booze was all set without having to think about anything. Recommended.
It’s been over a year since my husband and I have been in the city. Certainly was Not the usual
New York City with the crowded streets and horns honking. But Sparks Steakhouse is still absolutely the Best! It
Was perfect from the time we walked in until the time we left. 6:00 reservation we were seated right away, tables were spaced apart as they always are. Service, Food, Wine & my husband were the perfect combination. Thank you sparks for a wonderful anniversary celebration. See you soon!
Exceptional experience! Visiting from out of state and I will definitely be back on my next trip up.
So happy to be able to visit again. One of our favorites
Celebrando con mi hijo
Wonderful food and service as always
The food was outstanding and great ambiance! The steaks, hash browns and salads are fantastic.
Excellent steaks and sides. One of the few places outside Maine where they know how to cook lobster that is tender, moist and outrageously delicious. Real, classic New York cheesecake is to die for. One of our all-time favorites.
Tried the sliced steak with mushroom bordelaise sauce: excellent. Broiled shrimp also marvelous. Wine great as usual, though the vintages are now 2015-2016 rather than 2009-2010. Maybe it has been a while? Great people watching also.
Our favorite steak house and restaurant in NYC. Always a 5Star meal and service. They made us feel special. 😎
The waitstaff were so wonderful they even brought a birthday tartuffo for my husband and made his special night even better!
This was my first time here and I enjoyed every bit of it
The menu was perfect not to crazy
1 page which is perfect
I will definitely return
The meat was excellent and very well cooked. The service was simply terrible, unfriendly and extremely slow. We had to wait 15 minutes to get the menus, and the same time to even get bread and butter. Although the food was really good, and I will bever come back and I would never recomend it.
The filet was very good along with the oysters. Overall would go back again.
Sparks is well past its prime. The steak is fine, but the menu is extremely limited and the space is run down.
Steaks were way too salty and the outer skins were burnt. Extremely disappointed at the steak, but the ambiance and service were good as usual.
I have been eating at Sparks since the early 1970's when they were at 19th and Irving Place. I think they are the best steak house in NYC, especially if you are a strip steak eater.
Entire evening was perfect. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Series’s perfect and most importantly you could talk and hear your guests
Great service, great food and ambience. Welcome back NY!
