I’ve been to nearly every popular steakhouse in NYC and Sparks just keeps bringing us back. It’s the best steakhouse in the city and offers a combination of everything someone would want. Always the very top of my recommendation list.
Great food and service but they should offer better wine glasses!
Consistently always great there. Waiters are excellent. Food cooked to perfection. They do it right!
Sirloin steak was good, but our service was poor. Our waiter was not very attentive, service was extremely slow, didn’t offer me more wine when my glass was empty, had to ask for everything including the check. At a restaurant like this, the wait staff should anticipate your every need. Our waiter was not at all conversational or engaging. Would not return.
Sparks was great . Classic NYC Staple. Steaks were Great ! Service needs a little polishing .. I would recommend . Thanks !
Amazing staff amazing dinner
We had the sirloin and the filet mignon. The filet mignon, while big, was very fatty, to the point where it was difficult to slice. The sirloin was OK, but not excellent - definitely on the dry side, despite being ordered as medium-rare. Appetizers and sides were forgettable. The food is not bad, but it's just not great - which is what you expect when you go to a place like Sparks. Service was sloppy - the waiter had to be reminded of items that we had ordered multiple times. He never offered an apology or an even an acknowledgment that anything was amiss. There are better steaks, and definitely better service, in the city.
The food was phenomenal, the staff was exquisite, and the experience was marvelous! It was like going to your grandma's house, the one who never let's you leave hungry, and it was hosted by your favorite uncles, who keep a smile on your face and a drink in your hand for the entirety of Sunday dinner.
We enjoyed the buffala mozzarella with tomatoes as an appetizer. The mozzarella was soft and fresh, a taste more appreciated with each bite, and the tomatoes were thick-sliced, lush, red, and slightly crisp, as if they were plucked from the vine just moments before being served. Excellence.
The filet mignon was cooked precisely to my requested specification, perfectly seasoned, crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, served fresh and hot. Absolutely the best steak I have ever had! The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, the asparagus was sauteed to crisp perfection in garlic and butter, just like home made. The lobster with broiled shrimp was mouth-watering, cooked soft and bathed in butter. All of the dishes were just this side of too much to eat, I couldn't imagine leaving hungry with those portions!
I ordered a lovely bottle of sauvignon blanc from New Zealand, it was brought out ice cold and kept perfectly cooled throughout our meal. Our glasses were never without water or wine for more than a few seconds before one of the staff was there to fill them back up.
Our only complaint was that a pair of customers seated nearby spent their time playing videos on their phones, very loudly, without any consideration for others in their vicinity. The staff said nothing to them, although everyone in sight was clearly offended by what we heard. Perhaps a bit too polite on the establishment's part.
All in all, a genuinely lovely experience. I would recommend Sparks to anyone who enjoys fine dining and a splendid wine selection. Thanks, gentlemen!!
The portions are too large; the menu too basic; the service too average; the prices too high.
amazing place with a lot of history 2nd time at sparks a must for steak lovers
Fantastic place. Will see us again. Oscar was superb in every way. Thank you.
Bestes Sirloin Steak meines Lebens
Leider konnte ich nur 1/3 aufessen
Solche Portionen gibt es in Deutschland nicht
Gute Weinkarte netter Service
Endlich mal ein gehobenes Publikum
Sparks lives upto its name in all forms, staff and management did an outstanding job!
Always great! Our favorite!
We are steak lovers and always make time to try local steak houses wherever we travel. I ordered sirloin, nicely prepared the way I like, charred on the outside and pinkish red inside, but it was tough - definitely not the $58 prime steak I was expecting. Wife had fresh broiled halibut which was nicely prepared and tasted good. The wine and grilled asparagus were good.
The wait staff were very attentive, professional and funny at the same time. One of the best wait staff we’ve experienced at a steak house.
Would have given a 5 star if the prime steak lived up to its standards. We’ve been disappointed many times over even when we thought we have found our perfect steak house.
We are still in search for the perfect steakhouse that lives up to it’s name and delivers consistency in prime steak quality.
Family vacation in NYC
Best steak house in Manhattan
Very expensive lunch disappointment. The crab and scallop appetizer was not good. The mixed greens was 95 % romaine and tomatoes were not ripe. Our steak was not great and the mushrooms were left in their dish. Best part of the meal was the bread and butter. Without alcoholic beverages, meal was close to $200 and we left hungry. Service, however, was very professional.
Overall great job by Sparks Team
Absolutely loved the experience and the food. Our server was friendly and attentive even though we were having significantly less food and wine then his other tables.
Upon arrival the maître d’ said he only had a table in the middle of the restaurant but if we wanted to have a drink he would find us when a better table opened up. When we were taking to our table the maître d’ carry my fiancé‘s drink to the table which I thought was a nice move. The ambience there is excellent very old New York a little loud but tolerable. My steak came out perfectly cooked my fiancé ordered halibut steak and the waiter trimmed it at the table before he served it and it also was excellent. Thank you Sparks staff, we look forward to returning!
We went for a daddy/daughter date for my 13 year old girl. We had a BLAST! The food was excellent. The service was excellent and friendly. A bit pricey, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Awesome!
I've been coming to Sparks since it was on 18 Street off Irving Place. It hasn't failed me yet. Needless to say, I shall return.
Food was good. Drinks were not that good. Some bartenders think pure alcohol is the right way to make a mixed drink.
Wonderful experience ! Classic New York Steakhouse!
Everything about our dinner at Sparks was amazing! We loved the experience of dining at an established restaurant in NYC. The ambiance was romantic! The food was delicious! Our steaks were perfectly cooked. The wait service was attentive. It was a perfect start to a wonderful evening of dinner and theater.
Terrific Steak House with true New York City ambience. Consistent and excellent.
Have been to Sparks several times over the last few years. Brought another couple for their first time and had bragged up Sparks and how much we liked this restaurant. Very disappointed. Waiter was lacking and seemed like it was a chore. Had to send steak back because raw not close to medium rare. Took forever and sides were cold when it came back and others were close to finishing their meal. They did send out home fries, but they were all small dried bits (complimentary). Will not choose to come back next time in NY. There are many other choices.
My husband’s 75th birthday. We are coming back on July 3rd with a party of 10 to continue the celebration. Hoping for the same waiter. I think his name was Paco.
Fabulous food and service in a spectacular “old New York” setting. Great for pre-theater dining, business, evening with friends, or a spectacular al night out
Too expensive for what you get!
The experience is overrated . The food was good but the service arrogant and the hospitality was insuffficient !
In our opinion it is not worth the money!!!
Absolutely awesome service and outstanding food. They helped me surprise my wife for her birthday and brought out the bracelet o got her with the desert. The steak was cooked to perfection, mediums and extra charred. We will be back
The wait was short, the service impeccable and the food delicious ! I had the lamb chops and I have a salt reaction however this restaurant served it perfectly and I didn’t blow up. Being from Chicago where we have many fabulous steak restaurants this definitely compares and tops the service. If you want a “staple of good food and old school service” this is your place !
Ante was our waiter and was very professional...just awesome. My wife and I went with our three boys middle school / elementary age. We had great service and great food. Would visit again. Other folks brought kids but they were all behaved and we were in a section that was nice....but away from tables that were adults only.
Not only is the food and service EXCELLENT, what a truly understanding staff. I took the wrong wallet and forgot my credit cards. The staff could not be more gracious or understanding. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts (and wallets). Special thanks to our waiter, Arlino for being understanding and professional.
Poor quality food all around
