This is a "standard," perhaps the standard by which all steakhouses are measured. It is not cheap. Offering an a la carte menu, throw in a bottle or two of wine and it can quickly become costly ($100+/person). However, the beef is perfect and the cuts large. Service is impeccable. It is a large noisy room, and the sound can be almost unacceptable at times, if the house is full, but that only enhances the experience. I have dined here dozens of times and will many more. The wines are surprisingly well priced, with many great jugs listed for substantially less than 2/3 markup; in a world where 2x and 3x markups are expected this gives the oenophile many intriguing options. There is also the mob history, but that is not something to consider if you are considering this establishment.

We visited Sparks (4 girlfriends), from Boston, last weekend because we were celebrating a birthday in NYC. My in-laws have been eating at Sparks for years and have taken me here several times before. I suggested Sparks as a fabulous steakhouse before the theatre. We had a really nice dinner, nice wine and our server was wonderful! My friends were very impressed. From the second we walked in the door the staff treated us like royalty. Very classy staff. And the best food, service and value. Thank you!

I have been to just about every first rate steak house in the country and Sparks would rank near the bottom. The sirloin steak, which all 4 of us ordered, was extremely tough and hard to cut. That is usually my favorite steak and I was surprised at how tough the meat was. My wife barely ate hers as she couldn't swallow the grizzle. Also, the sides were just OK and very small. Very disappointed.

We asked for the Sirloin steak which is the special and although the term was perfect it had not much taste. For $57.00 you expect a very jucie and tasty meat.

Excellent service and excellent food. A little noisy, so don't go expecting a quiet cozy dinner, but do put on your reading glasses and have a nice bottle of wine!

Tourist trap. We liked the decor but the steak is huge and mediocre meant to impress tourists. For the price we paid we could have gone to any top rated steak houses. Service was average. Lesson learned, when you do a last minute reservation in NYC and you see all slots available in opentable the stay away from the place...

Sparks never fails when it comes to a great steak. Best I have ever had. The wait staff and maitre'd were all very attentive and welcomed us warmly. We are always happy to dine at Sparks and will continue to do so for years to come.

Awful place. No specific lunch menu. Inattentive waiters. Meat came significantly undercooked.

A bad vestige of a formerly nice restaurant.

I was extremely disappointed in the food! I have eaten at Flemings, Mortons, Ruth and Chris, Javier's and all of their steaks and food has been amazing especially their steaks! Even Outbacks was far better than Sparks! First of all the waiter kept telling me what it is I wanted to eat and how I wanted my meat cooked. I do not mind a recommendation but leave it at that. The appetizers were flavorless. The sauce for the shrimp cocktail was the worst I have ever had and the bread was hard as a rock. I like my meat very rare which is what it was on the inside but it was burnt, charred almost black on the outside and because it was burnt on the outside it tasted like charcoal and was impossible to chew. I thought about sending it back but I just wanted to get out of there at that point. The mushrooms that the waiter insisted we did not need because "The meat is a big cut and you will get too full" were bland at best. I asked for a baked potatos for my son and I with everything on it. When they came there was nothing on them. I had to wait to get a waiters attention to get some butter for it although they did bring a bowl of sour cream with the potato. Short of cooking it I literally had to prepare the potato myself. There were at least 5 waiters standing around and only two other tables occupied and not once did they come back to ask if we wanted something else to drink or eat. They also forgot my sons soda and we had to flag someone over who eventually brought it to him. With all of those waiters standing around you would think they would be more attentive. When I pay 400.00 for dinner I expect a certain quality in my food and my service. I realize that we had a very late dinner and I am sure everyone wanted to go home but that is no excuse for the awful food and service that we received. I will never return nor will I recommend Sparks to anyone.

We booked online really didn’t know what to expect Sparks had wonderful reviews so we went based on that, with being out of Town we didn’t know what to expect. Sparks met all our expectations from the time your greeted at the door and checked on several times by name, to the wonderful service and food. Everything was great!

Good food...but we were not told that Filet Mignon comes in different sizes; the largest sizes were served which we could not eat and given we were from out of town, the rest had to be thrown out...food was wasted which is a shame...waiter should let people know that there are different size steaks and ask for portion preference... when a 2nd waiter brought this to the attention of our waiter, our waiter remarked that he never offers comments unless asked...well this was our first time there and we didn't know... also the bartender couldn't make proper Martinis... one was sent back, the other had missing olives... our waiter brought a cup of olives over and dumped them in the martini ... that too was odd and turned us off at the very beginning ... after our main course, we mentioned to the waiter it was a birthday celebration...while we were reviewing the dessert menu, the waiter surprised us with a slice of cake decorated with a happy b-day wish...it appeared very thoughtful of the restaurant until we got the bill and saw the surprise b-day cake slice on the bill... in our frequent dining out, we had never experienced this... we were very disappointed with the service given the cost of eating there...

The food was great! One of the best steaks and lobster in NYC. Our waiter was in a hurry from
the moment we got there. He rushed us through the menu telling us theee would not be time for a salad since he’d already put in the order, forgot our wine service approaching halway through our meal, charged us for two dozen oysters while he only brought us one, and here comes the clincher......he walked off his shift, no one knew where he’d gone. and we had to ask another server to bring us our check. Prettty lousy service Id say, but go for the steak and hope you don’t get that waiter😱

The filet steak was out of this world! The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s thick! The dress code says dressy but saw many men with short sleeved casual button up shirts and polos so dont be put off by that. The service is impeccable the restaurant is beautiful
Enjoy!

Went for my mum's 60th birthday, all three of us had the prime sirloin and it was really good but not quite great. We asked for 3 medium rare steaks and 2 were perfect but one more rare than the others (it was thicker which may be why). The sides on offer were pretty boring and not the best when they arrived. Considering it cost over $300 with only a couple of glasses of wine between us I was slightly disappointed - we had better food for half the price at a couple of other restaurants we went to on the following days.

Sparks was a great steakhouse! A Top Ten prime strip sirloin! Ordered it Med. Rare Plus. My wife got the beef medallions and they were 16 oz. of end cut beef tenderloin pieces, not thin slices! Asparagus and mashed potatoes were top notch sides. Wine list has to be on of NYC's top ten as well! We loved it and we know steak! Disregard any negative review on any site, those people must have refused to allow themselves to enjoy a great steak.
