The service was good except I did have to find someone to ask for water refills
This was my "go to" steak place for clients when I worked on the East Side decades ago. I brought my family for dinner on New Year's Eve having not been for 10 years or so. It was so good, my son wanted to come back two weeks later for his birthday, which was enthusiastically endorsed by the rest of the family. While everything was very good, the filet mignon is exceptional and should be ordered medium rare to rare. The wine list was as amazing as I remembered. The only low note was the dessert -- we ordered a fair selection between our two dinners, and none of them even came close to the molten chocolate cake we made at home for the birthday child. I would either skip it or go to another place for an after dinner treat.
I like old school but this was bad old school. Keens is great old school. Butter was served in packets like at a holiday inn. Their excuse was COVID-but no other high-end restaurant serves the butter in foil “Greenland” packets. Food choices were limited, missing many steakhouse classics like thick cut bacon. Salmon was an unseasoned hunk of fish on the plate. Nothing accompanied it. Mushrooms were not hot and spinach was steamed but no seasoning. I mentioned this and they brought it back sautéed with garlic. I was told I should have ordered it like that, but I had ordered the side of spinach. Shouldn’t have to give special instructions for it to taste good. Mashed potatoes reminded of glue. Staff was nice but we won’t be back.
Excellent as always
We had the best time. Always superb service and absolutely delicious offering. The Filet mignon might have been the best I’ve ever had. Love Sparks and cannot wait to return.
Sparks’ time passed long ago. For appetizers we ordered baked clams and lump crab sea scallop combo. The clams were very good but the combo was terrible. The sea scallops were the smallest I’ve ever seen and they were very fishy tasting. The Caesar’s salad was ok. We ordered the sirloin and filet mignon with sides of hash browns and creamed spinach. The spinach was ice cold and the hash browns tasted like a baked potato taken out of the skin. Very dry. The filet was good and cooked to the correct temp. It was also a fairly large portion. I ordered the “signature”sirloin medium rare. I came out charred and very cold in the center. The server brought it back to the kitchen and returned with the same steak totally black with a pink center. We left there very disappointed but not completely surprised. If you’re in the mood for steak you’ll have a much better experience at Keans or Benjamin. I would like to add that our server was very good and attentive.
It was my first time here and it will not be my last.
My waiter Lucky was great as was everyone from the entrance in.
We were absolutely impressed immediately from the greeting you received from the host , to the waitstaff , the steak was out of this world , best steak EVER ! The desert was decadent, well worth the money !
Great dinner with family. Rashid took wonderful care of us with his warmth, humor, and professional service. Food , ambiance, and service were all perfect!!
If you want the most tender of steaks that melt in your mouth that are as big as your head.. then this is the place for you.. one of the best steaks I have ever had..! FANTASTIC
No need to go to any other steak house. Always perfect. Always delicious. The staff is spectacular. A real New York steak house experience.
Great meal and atmosphere like usual.
Came in with my family for New Year’s Eve. The staff at Sparks is amazing and Ernesto, the head chef, is so accommodating. Thank you for the great second experience to share with my family.
Our server was just o.k., but the server's assistant and maitradee were amazing and spoke to us at length about their history with the restaurant and the restaurant itself. The filet was amazing and tender. We had the 'hashbrowns' which are essentially breakfast potatoes, but we're delicious.
Great meal and drinks, great service, great ambiance.
We went for my sisters birthday and it was perfect ! It was so beautiful in side and the food was delicious! we really enjoyed ourselves
Probably the best steak I've ever had, an absolutely incredible meal.
Food and service were on point. Best steak I’ve had.
We were so thrilled to dine here. Food was very tasty with very nice presentation. Very good service! From wait help to management everyone was very attentive and kind. We will spread the word out to others and encourage them to dine at Sparks when in Manhattan.
Amazing from the minute you walk in. You are greeted and seated. Service could not be better! And the food is nothing short of delicious. Great place great food.A taste of old NY.
Our favorite restaurant
We will be back
Best meal ever! You guys are perfect. Old Bordeaux at good prices, shrimp, steak, sides, all A+ Great service. Nice, spacious room with distance between tables is especially nice. You're the best!!@!@
Food was subpar. Nothing special, did not live up to the name
We were shocked at the size of portions! This may look pricey but actually it's a super bargain. We loved the old school New York atmosphere and attention to deals
Always amazing. A NYC fixture.
Eat waiter Miguel ! Paco , Giba and zayed were amazing! We went to celebrate my daughters 12 birthday from Texas they above and beyond. Zayed told us a bit of the history of the restaurant. I will come back !
This was recommended by an acquaintance! Overall a good experience. Food was delicious but pricey
I've been a guest at Sparks many times over the years. Unfortunately the experience on this visit was so poor that my family and I would never return. The service was terrible with waiters reaching over and across multiple people to fill wine and water glasses or to take plates away. Waiters pouring expensive wine in glasses for folks who don't drink wine, without asking and thereby wasting it. Getting past that we anticipated excellent steaks and main courses. Again, disappointed with cold tasteless sides of their spinach and mashed potatoes. Disappointed with a couple steaks that had a lot of elastin making them chewy even in medium/rare cooked meat. Halibut, which was recommended was thin, over cooked and fishy tasting. Halibut is never fishy making it that much more strange and disappointing. Just an overall bad experience. They need new management in the kitchen and out.
Christmas NYC trip with family-
We had a great dinner with the kids. All our choices from apps to dessert were delicious! The staff was very friendly and expert at serving our delicious meal.
Outstanding service! Amazing food !
Food was great service at bar not so great!
First trip to NYC
What a disappointment. I always revisit one of the outstanding old style traditional NYC steakhouses when I am in the city. Sparks used to be dark, red, old style with great steaks. It is now huge, bustling, no atmosphere, terrible lighting and mediocre steaks and food. It felt like a commercial cafeteria without the buffets. Many of the menu items are now just called "steak" and the cut is not even listed. After inquiring about the "beef medallions" and being told they were slices from a whole roasted tenderloin, we ordered them. They were obviously scraps of cuts from the filet mignons, most too tough to cut with a steak knife and therefore inedible. The prices remain on par with the other great old steakhouses in town - very high. Dont waste your money here, especially in a city full of fabulous restaurants. I am grieving for the loss of Sparks and the fact that I have to cross it off my NYC list forever.
Excellent service from the bartender, maitre d' and servers, with delicious steaks and wine (as always). Highly recommended!
Good was excellent, service was impeccable. I don’t recall our waiters name, but we were at table 200 on Saturday night. He was wonderful, attentive without being overwhelming and truly made our dinner experience delightful.
The food at Sparks Steak House is delicious , the atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion or dinner anytime . We would definitely go back .
Overall great!! Felt like we stepped back in time. Met the chef and manager that had been there for 40 years. Our waiter was so helpful and kind - made sure we didn’t over order and suggested great parings. If your looking for a classic NYC steakhouse this is the spot. Can’t’ wait to go back.
Food was amazing and service was outstanding!!!!!
It’s an iconic venue that people go to for two reasons, the main reason should be for the steaks
